Technology Through the Years 3000 BC Abacus 1600s Calculators were used in classrooms. 1800s Punched Card devices were invented. 1940s Joesph Jacquard created a programmable machine that used punched cards. 3. 1940s through 1956 1943 Vacuum tubes were used andpunch cards stored information. 1950s Mainframe Computers were used to train pilots.1956- IBM RAMAC Computer Second Generation used transistors, stored up to 32K of information, and used FORTRANand COBOL as computer language. 4. 1960s through 1990s 1960- Minicomputers were introduced. 1970 - Microsomputers1971- Intel invented microprocessor chips. 1980 IBM first PC. Apple II, Commodore PET, Radio Shack TRS 80 computers were adopted by schools.1990s Tim Berners-Lee developed HTML andWorld Wide Web (WWW). 5. 1990s through 1990 - 1990s- Marc Andreessen developedMosaic software to read HTML. He also founded Netscape.1990s Creation of the Internet. 6. Technologywill continue to change and the students growingup with it will continue test, try, and experimentwith it. Teachers will need to keep up with thechanging technology to meet the needs of thelearners. 9. Students will collaborate with otherstudents on projects through the internet.The other group of students may not even bein the same school, state, or country. Technologyallows students to explore the world from onelocation. 10. Changing Technology In Closing Technology continues to change the way teachers teach. As technology evolves, so must the teachers.
