HISTORY FAST FACTS • The history department is located in Pendleton House, a beautiful restored century home. • Hands-on learning opportunities are available with organizations like the Garfield Historical Society and the Hiram College Archives. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN • Study a combination of American, European and world history. • Learn the research and interpretive techniques used by professional historians. • Choose from three optional concentrations: History and Law, Gender History and regional histories, such as Asian History. • Major in Integrated Social Studies through our Education Department. • Take unique classes like “Kings and Vikings,” “From Brothel to Factory: History of Female Labor in Asia,” “Early Modern Occult” and “American Environmental History.” STUDY ABROAD As part of our faculty-led study abroad trips, students have traveled to Japan, sailed the Caribbean Sea and learned about medieval English history and literature in English towns and cities like London, Bath, Stonehenge, Stratford-upon-Avon and York. What can you do with a History degree? You could become: • a curator • an archivist • a historian • a professor • a documentary editor • a writer • a librarian • a paralegal • a lawyer • a historical consultant (over)
