MISSION STATEMENT

To put Christian principles into practice

through programs that build

healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

The Year in Numbers 15,289 members 422,969 visits 423 donors 325 Volunteers More than 2 dozen partners 13 sites 20,000 people reached

Another year has passed, a year of opportunities to work with our members, donors, and partners to bring positive change to Northwest Florida. Our Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA continues to outpace expectations, with membership steady at just above the 10,000 mark. In this flagship facility, we offer a broad spectrum of wellness programs, swim lessons, youth engagement, and senior fitness, and we work in collaboration with our partners to deliver programs for all ages and abilities. That success has enabled us to focus on growth in both counties. We finalized a partnership with the City of Pensacola to exchange our property on Langley Avenue with a parcel on the city’s Summit Boulevard athletic complex. We plan to build a new wellness facility there. In addition, through that agreement, we’ve moved our Northeast child care programs to the Vickrey Center, which will increase our capacity to serve this area. In Santa Rosa County, we’re moving forward with plans to expand our Pullum Family YMCA while also investigating new facility operations in the northern and southern ends of the county. These projects will provide challenges to our team, but also great opportunities to serve. Together, we can deliver on our mission to build a stronger, healthier, more connected community.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

We are FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.

Our programs are designed to nurture the

potential of children and teens. We are dedicated

to building healthy, confident, and secure

children because we believe that all youth

deserve the opportunity to discover who they are

and what they can achieve.

Bridget Robinson is grateful for the YMCA and the programs offered to her two boys, Myles and Carter. Like many parents, Bridget needs peace of mind about where her sons go to make friends, to play sports and spend time when they are out of school. It's important to her that they have adults around them to mentor them in leadership—building character and teaching them how to be responsible.

“Thanks to the Northeast YMCA, my boys Myles and Carter have a place to come and develop physically, so-cially, and emotionally. My sons have benefitted from the athletic programs, afterschool care, and mentoring groups.”

For Bridget, the Y has become part of the network of support needed to raise strong, healthy, happy children. “I definitely consider the YMCA a vital piece of the ‘village’ it takes to cultivate and nurture my children.”

It Takes a Village

Our afterschool and summer day

camps welcomed 832 youth who

stayed physically active and

mentally engaged during out-of-

school times.

One in four youth in our

afterschool programs receives Y

Assistance that makes it

possible for them to have a

safe, enriching place to enjoy.

We delivered 2,066 swim

lessons to youth of all ages,

reducing the likelihood of

drowning in an area surrounded

by water.

We modeled healthy habits,

teamwork and good

sportsmanship to 1,362 children

in our youth sports programs.

We welcomed 35,501 visits to

our KidZone areas inside the Y,

giving kids an engaging and safe

place to play and giving their

parents the opportunity to

invest time in their own

wellness.

HEALTHY LIVING

We are for HEALTHY LIVING.

We are a leading voice on health and well-being,

providing wellness opportunities for all. We make

it simple to make the healthy choice, and we

bring families together through fitness, sports,

fun and shared interests that nurture spirit, mind

and body.

Eddy White was housebound in spring 2018. She joined the Pullum Y, where she connected with Wellness Coach Stephanie Chivas through the Smart Start program. Together, they built a health and wellness road map to help 70-year-old Eddy achieve her goals of building endurance and muscle mass and increasing her lung capacity.

Eddy’s Smart Start plan included a healthy approach to nutrition and eating habits, fitness training intensity, and support from her coach. In addition to losing weight and body fat, she now takes a daily 30-minute treadmill walk and has worked up to 15 minutes on the elliptical. Consistent time on resistance machines has had a practical result: carrying a 15-pound bag of cat food is no longer a struggle.

Eddy visits the Y almost every day. “I just keep getting up and coming back. I am definitely the turtle in the group, not the hare!” Eddy said her favorite Y experience is the conversation she enjoys with others, including an 82-year-old woman who inspires her to keep working.

Eddy’s advice? “Keep your goals achievable and short term. You cannot go wrong with a coach to offer you support and encouragement.”

I’m the Turtle

More than 15,000 members

enjoyed the opportunity to stay

healthy and strong while

building friendship and

community.

We gave away $254,240 in

membership—serving 1,844

people—as part of our

commitment to serving all.

About 20% of our members are

age 60 or older. For many, the Y

provides a chance to stay

physically active and socially

connected.

We hosted 23 teams from local

companies for our 25th annual

Corporate Cup Games, which

celebrate wellness in the

workplace.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We are for SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

We motivate people to support their neighbors

and the larger community and give our members

opportunities to give back and help others. In

collaboration with our donors, volunteers, and

partners, we empower people to make a

difference in their neighborhood and world.

Last summer, Beckie Mullen invited Top of the Bottom

Ministry children to her house for a pool party. She

realized they couldn’t swim, and it became her mission to

see that they learned.

Through a series of contacts, she was connected with

Bonnie Steffensmeier and Bill Seedes, Aquatics

Coordinator and Executive Branch Director of the Bear

Levin Studer Family YMCA, respectively. They identi ed

More than 420 donors gave

$187,690 to our Annual

Campaign, led by nearly 100

banner donors who gave $1,000

or more to support the Y’s

mission.

We provided an avenue for

members and friends to give

back, as 325 people gave

volunteer time valued at

$106,103 to make our programs

possible.

We welcomed 300 children with

special needs to Halloween at the

Y, where they enjoyed a safe and

unique trick-or-treat experience.

We opened our doors to faith

groups, other nonprofits, youth

development organizations,

health care partners, schools,

and civic organizations, giving

away $138,458 in facility use so

that others could accomplish

their goals.
