HISTORY

Thriller is a genre which is used in different kinds of media such as literature, film and television. The main purpose of this genre is to build suspense, excitement and tension.

The main subgenres of thrillers are usually mystery, crime and psychological. By as always there are many different subgenres that aren’t listed as well. Thrillers are closely linked with horror because they are both used to create suspense and atmosphere to cause the feeling of dread in their audience.

The atmosphere in a thriller film is also enhanced through the use of lighting and music this creates the atmosphere of suspense and mystery which links into the thriller genre.

One of the most well known and popular thriller films is ‘Psycho’ which was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and was produced during 1960. This film is a psychological thriller based on the American 1960‘s time period

He had a distinctive and recognisable directional style. He was very clever in the way he pioneered use of camera movements and framed shots to maximise: fear, anxiety and empathy, he also often used: twist endings, murder and crime.

Psycho is know to be his most successful film. It costed him almost $800,000 and within the first year he had grossed a profit of almost $15 million. Making it his most profitable film in his career.

Hitchcock developed the genre thriller and specialised in suspense and psychological. He had a successful British career in both silent and early talkies films and was then known as England's best director in the film industry but unfortunately moved to the US in 1939 and became a citizen in 1955

DAVID FINCHER

He was born in 1962, in Denver Colorado. When he was 18 he went to work for a company called korty films where his mentor was john korty. From 1981-1983 he worked in the ILM where it was to direct TV commercials and music videos. David directed TV commercials for companies such as coca cola, Nike. And also directed music videos for Madonna, the rolling stones.

as a film director he has had success with many different films such as se7en, fight club and also panic room.

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN

Christopher is best know in the film industry for his use of cerebral, often non-linear storytelling films. He was born in 1970 in London, England. Over the decades of him film making he has been successful from working on lower end budgeted films to directing some of the biggest blockbuster to date.
