On Jan/24/1992, BCB Vote 57/92 was approved, introducing the concept of Board of Governors (see more on p. 15)

Deputy Governors – after 1992 I. On Jan/24/1992, BCB Vote 57/92 was approved. It introduced the concept of Board of Governors, with attributions and competences grouped by subjects; extinguished the

Cabinets of the Governor and Deputy Governors; it also eliminated the practice of naming Deputy Governors by their fields of operation (“Deputy Governor for ...”) and their respective acronyms.

II. The Board of Governors remains with 9 members (1 Governor and 8 Deputy Governors), pursuant to Decree 91,961, of November 19, 1985 – see notes II-V on p. 8. III. The title of members of the Board of Governor began to depict groupings defined in the Internal Regulations (Ordinance 267, of March 4, 1996) as follows: “Deputy Governor

responsible for the matters of...”, without the official use of acronyms. However, this form of addressing board members was not assimilated, either inside or outside of the Central Bank, so the informal use of acronyms remained (Communiqué BCB 427/99).

IV. On Dec/8/1999, pursuant to Service Order 3,502, the form of addressing members of the Board of Governors was modified, reintroducing the official use of the expression “Deputy Governor for ...” and its respective acronyms.

    V. On Dec/14/2005, after the publication of the new Internal Regulations by Ordinance 29,971, all incumbent Deputy Governors had their competences defined and reconfirmed by Ordinance 32,972

VI. Pursuant to the Complementary Law number 179, from 2/24/2021, which establishes the autonomy of the Central Bank of Brazil, the terms of its Deputy Governors shall last for 4 (four) years, according to an order defined by law. The Governor and the Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Brazil may be reappointed once, observing the provisions of the law.
