Day one - Monday, May 13, 2019 - fly to the east coast, travel to Amish Country, Pennsylvania Our wonderful adventure begins with a flight to either Philadelphia or Baltimore (will depend on the best flights and rates available at the time of booking). where we will board our motor coach for a ride (about 2 hours) northward from the bustling national capital region to the tranquility of Amish Country where a comfortable inn and a nice dinner await! Day two - Tuesday, May 14 - explore Amish country - travel to Gettysburg, PAAn amazing day of discovery begins with a nice breakfast at our inn. Day three - Wednesday, May 15 - visit Gettysburg travel to Shenandoah National Park Rise and shine! This morning we’ll visit the impressive Gettysburg National Military Park with an expert local guide who will explain the military history of this pivotal Civil War battle - an unforgettable experience, regardless of your interest in military history. After lunch, we’ll board our bus and head south into Virginia and the Shenandoah National Park. (B, L, D) Day four - Thursday, May 16 - travel to Lexington, KYToday we’ll continue our route through the beautiful Appalachians crossing westward into West Virginia. Later today, the mountains will give way to the beautiful rolling hills and and farmlands of Kentucky. We’ll arrive in the charming city of Lexington where we’ll have dinner together. (B, D)

Day five - Friday, May, 17 - visit Toyota Factory - travel to Bowling GreenThis morning we’ll travel to the nearby Toyota Factory in Georgetown, Kentucky - the largest Toyota Factory in North America. You’ll marvel as you follow a process which converts raw pieces of steel into fully driving cars which you see on our roads every day. This is a unique and fabulously interesting factory tour. Later today, we’ll continue our route southward, traveling to the charming University town of Bowling Green. (B, D)Day six - Saturday, May 18 - discover Mammoth Caves National Park, travel to the Nashville area Today we’ll travel to nearby Mammoth Cave National Park which is home to the world's longest known cave system (stretching more than 390 miles) - we’ll spend much of this morning touring one of the main caves, an unforgettable experience. Later today, we’ll visit the National Corvette Museum before traveling to nearby Nashville (area) where we will overnight. (B, D)

Day seven - Sunday, May 19 - discover Nashville - evening travel to Asheville, NC We’ll begin our day at the impressive Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum which beautifully preserves the history of country music in America. After a nice southern lunch together, we’ll enjoy a city tour of Nashville for an overview of all of the main highlights of this interesting state capital. Later today we’ll travel to Asheville in North Carolina where we’ll arrive in the evening. (B, L)

Day eight - Monday, May 20 - visit the Biltmore Estate, overnight near Asheville, NC Today begins with a visit of Biltmore Estate, George Vanderbuilt’s astonishing estate. Originally in 1895 the estate covered 125,000 acres - the house occupying a staggering 175,000 square feet (four acres) (33 bedrooms, 65 fireplaces and 43 bathrooms) is a veritable treasure trove of art and fine furnishings. You’ll visit the home and it’s gardens (B, D)

Day nine - Tuesday, May 21 - travel to Charlotte, NC - return flights homeAfter breakfast we’ll travel to Charlotte’s airport for our return flights home. (B)

Activity Level this tour is rated activity level 2: Activity Level 1 - A very easy tour. Minimal physical activity such as climbing some stairs, boarding your motorcoach, and walking from the hotel lobby area to your hotel rooms and dinning areas. Activity Level 2 - An average physical ability tour. You should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly over uneven ground and plain dirt paths. Activity Level 3 - A moderate physical activity tour. The itinerary features a mix of a few longer days with shorter days (and more leisure time). You should be in good health, able to participate in walking tours as well as walking slightly longer distances, up stairs or on uneven walking surfaces. Activity Level 4 - A moderate physical activity tour with longer days. Some of the touring days (though not all) may be longer, with a few activities occurring later in the evening. You should be in good health, able to participate in walking tours as well as walking slightly longer distances, up stairs or on uneven walking surfaces. Activity Level 5 - A very active tour. Participants must be physically fit to fully experience this tour. This itinerary has more strenuous activities such as extensive walking tours, a few bumpy roads, high altitudes, early morning departures, late night activities, or extreme temperatures. This tour is not appropriate for individuals who require the use of a walker or a wheelchair. Not every day will be strenuous - please read the itinerary carefully and speak with a Keiro Northwest advisor if you have any concerns about the physical ability required to undertake this tour.

What to Expect

This is a leisurely tour. You’ll travel vast distances by bus almost every day, making stops to visit important sites along the way. You will do only a moderate amount of walking each day, usually over level surfaces although at Mammoth Caves National Park you may need to walk over short distances on dirt or uneven ground. Touring the countryside (which is the majority of the time on this tour) will consist of comfortable motor coach travel with occasional stops for rest-rooms and photos. Except for the main cities, this is a very leisurely tour.

Guests must be able to carry their own baggage (and carry-ons) through airports on their own. While walkers and wheelchairs may be brought onto this tour, guests who require either must be accompanied by a relative or care-taker at all times. If you require a walker or a wheel chair, you will not be able to do every single activity on this tour as some are only accessible to persons who can walk well without assistance.
