    About IUSSTF

    Transportation Engineering Division, IIT Kharagpur

The practice of road building has undergone significant changes in India over the last one decade owing to the mega investments made and due to the adoption of state-of-the-art construction technology. Not withstanding the progress made so far, many aspects of pavement engineering are still being fine tuned. Answers are being sought to several questions that have significant bearing on the successful performance of pavements. The main objective of the workshop is to discuss some of these critical issues and to seek/provide solutions to them. It is hoped that the coming together of different stake holders such as contractors, manufactures, consultants, researchers and academicians will provide an opportunity for multi-directional dissemination of knowledge in pavement engineering. Considering that US pavement industry has witnessed and adopted several technological innovations in the recent past, an effort is being made in this endeavor to bring Indian and American experiences together through Indo-US Science and Technology Forum.

The Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), established under an agreement between the Governments of India and the United States of America in March 2000, is an autonomous, non- profit society that promotes and catalyzes Indo-US bilateral collaborations in science, technology, engineering and biomedical research through substantive interaction among government, academia and industry. As a grant making organization, the principle objective of IUSSTF is to provide opportunities, to exchange ideas, information, skills and technologies, and to collaborate on scientific and technological endeavors of mutual interest that can translate the power of science for the benefit of mankind at large.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, an Institute of national importance, established in 1951, is the first in the chain of IITs in India. The department of civil engineering, which also started its programmes in the same year, has been serving the nation in multi-dimensional ways. Due to the sustained efforts made over last few decades and through its association with a number of Transportation infrastructure projects, the Transportation Engineering division has been able to make significant contributions in different areas having practical relevance.

RCG School of Infrastructure Design & Management, IIT Kharagpur

Ranbir and Chitra Gupta (RCG) School of Infrastructure Design and Management has been setup in 2008 as a result of the joint initiative of the IIT Kharagpur and Mr. Ranbir Singh Gupta, an alumnus of this institute. Currently, the school offers inter-disciplinary postgraduate programme in Infrastructure Design and Management with an aim to train students to cater to the needs of the infrastructure industry.
