President’s Message Dear Devotees, As my term is coming to an end, I would like to thank our priests, community, volunteers, corporate and life members, executive committee and the board for the support, input and encouragement. I would like to thank my family, my wife Parvathy, my mother and my daughters for their support and for taking care of things when I was not at home. Over the last 2 years, number of devotees continued to grow during major festivals and religious events. We hosted several cultural, educational, wellness and community events for all ages to promote well being of our community. We raised around $3400 to provide 10,000 meals to “Rise Against Hun-ger” program and our volunteers helped pack the meals. Also, our religious class students and their fam-ilies prepare and serve at the home less shelter once a month. With all your support our fund raising committee raised more than $200K for the dining hall project and did the ground breaking ceremony. We are working to finalize the plan and get the county approval and anticipating the work to begin in the next few months. The new dining hall will be a step in the direction for us, as we can enhance canteen services and also will be able to accommodate additional classes and events. The Hindu Center of Virginia plays a big part in building a strong Greater Richmond community and I would like to thank you all for contributing time and money towards this cause. Festival of India (FOI) 2019 - Invitation www.thefestivalofindia.org

Dear Friends, Festival of India 2019 is scheduled for September 21st & 22nd at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The ever-dedicated team has started the preparation and you may have already heard from an FOI team member. As you are aware, FOI is a key fund-raising activity for the Hindu Center. As always, FOI is looking for your sup-port with the souvenir book. If you have a business, please help us by supporting the souvenir book. If you or your employer would like more information on participating in the souvenir book, the FOI team would be de-lighted to meet with you and the decision makers at your employer. We can explain the complete package of benefits in sponsoring the festival and participating in the souvenir book and other activities. An event like FOI requires a tremendous amount of energy and support from our community. It is out flagship event and we need lot of people of step-up and help. We are blessed to have an amazing set of selfless and dedicated volunteers. At the same time, we need new volunteers to make the even bigger and better. We have lots of opportunities for people with different interests, skills and time commitment. Please get in touch with us or show up for a meet-ing. We would be delighted to match you with the right opportunity -- volunteering at a booth, help coordinate the event or serving on the committee. It’s a great way to help your community, meet new people and also de-velop new skills! FOI team meetings will be held on 3rd Sunday of each month from June till September. Please save these dates (June 16, July 21, Aug. 18, and Sept. 15) on your calendar. Meetings start @ 9:30 AM. Annual General Body Meeting Invitation - Sunday July 14th @ 2 PM

Dear Devotees, The Hindu Center of Virginia is a non-profit organization with a formal governance process and a set of bylaws in compliance with the corpo-ration laws of Virginia. The Annual General Body Meeting of the Hindu Center of Virginia will be held on Sunday, July 14th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the community hall. As per our bylaws, the meeting is open to all but only corporate members in good standing can vote. On that day, the corporate body (corporate members in good standing) will elect new eligible life members to the corporate body. Annually up to fifteen Life Members who meet eligibility criteria may be elected to corporate membership. In addition to new corporate members, this year, the corporate body will be electing four eligible corporate members to the Board of Directors. The Board comprises of nine members each elected to a single four-year term. This year, the Corporate Body will also elect the following members of the Executive Committee: President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. In accordance with our bylaws, an election committee has been formed and will invite nominations from current corporate members in good standing for the above positions. A ballot with the approved list of candidates vetted by the nomination committee will be sent to all corporate members. Corporate Members in good standing shall be entitled to vote for these positions by mail, or in person, or by proxy. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes cast for an office shall be declared elected to that office. family activities that do not conflict with the temple religious activities. Facilities are available for rent to conduct

language, art, dance classes, meetings, private functions such as birthdays and marriages as well as religious cer-
