• Founded in 1912
• NGO in official relations with WHO
• Representing over 4 million pharmacists and pharmaceutical
scientists from around the world
• Gathering: • 139 national associations of
pharmacists and pharmaceutical
scientists (in blue on the map)
• 156 schools of pharmacy
• 3900 individuals gathered in: • 8 (practice) sections
• 9 (sciences) special interest groups

Medicine shortage
• May 2017: Reporting medicines shortages:
Models and tactical options • Presented to the 70th World Health Assembly (WHA)
• In many countries (such as France, USA and the
Netherlands), pharmacists play a key role in
developing effective reporting systems that are used
to inform other stakeholders (including governments)
and assist all healthcare professionals in finding
solutions to shortages affecting their patients.
• Objectives: • To guide the development/improvement of a reporting
system through best practices sharing
• To support the WHO and the implementation of WHA
