HIGHLAND PARK WOMEN’S HOSPITAL 30,000 SF RENOVATION LOCATION Highland Park, Illinois SIZE 30,000 sf The renovation of the Highland Park Women’s Hospital (part of NorthShore Univerity HealthSystem’s Highland Park Hospital) took place in four phases, allowing the department to remain operational throughout construction. The project includes a new two-story lobby and entry canopy, 21 patient rooms, an 11-bassinet nursery and a new, centrally-located surgical suite for C-section deliveries and recovery. As part of an integrated design process, the new Women’s Hospital was painstakingly planned based on feedback from physicians and nurses and the latest research on labor and delivery departments. Team stations are positioned at several points throughout the department to allow for maximum coverage while limiting travel distances for nurses. The facility was designed based on the “LDRP” concept, where a new mother remains in the same room for labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum care. To accommodate this practice, each patient room was designed with the mother’s comfort and the staff’s optimal workflow at the forefront. Room amenities provide support for in-room care and the needs of the family.
