Our self-contained Higher Education Centre includes IT resources, social spaces, meeting areas and interactive classrooms. We have suites of PCs in our well-equipped libraries and IT workshops, as well as Wi-Fi hotspots. All students have access to TyneMet’s intranet and the internet, as well as Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment, which contains study materials, directed learning tasks and course notes allowing you to access course materials from College, home or work.

HIGHER EDUCATION FOUNDATION DIPLOMA COURSE (HEFD)TyneMet’sHigherEducationFoundationDiplomacourse(HEFD)providestheopportunitytoreturntostudy,usuallyinpreparationforauniversityDegreeprogramme,forthosewhowishtoreturntoeducationorarelookingtotaketheircareerinadifferentdirection.ThisisalsoagreatwaytoincreaseyourUCASpointsandimproveyourchancesofsecuringaplaceatuniversity.TheHEFDhelpsdevelopsocialandcommunicationskills,addressinggapsinkeyskillsandimproving employability.

HE Toolbox (Compulsory Module)

TheHEToolboxisanadvancedstudyskillsprogrammeprovidingyouwiththeopportunitytotailormodulesonyourDiplomatobestsuityourinterestsandcompetencies as well as helping you develop the study skills you need to be successful in Higher Education. In addition to the core toolbox module, students must select three optional modules.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSYou will need to have both supervisees and supervisory supervision, and be working as a Counsellor under supervision. You must also have completed eitheraFoundationDegreeinCounselling,CPCABLevel5DiplomainPsychotherapeuticCounsellingorCognitiveBehaviouralTherapeuticSkillsand Theory, and have at least one year’s post qualifying experience of supervisedclientwork.AlternativelyyoumusthavecompletedaDiplomaorHNDinCounsellingorCPCABLevel4DiplomainTherapeuticCounselling,andhave at least two years post-qualifying experience of supervised client work.An interview is required.

ASSESSMENT Assessment throughout the course includes: tutor observed supervision skills practice, tutor assessment of candidate portfolios and written work completed during the course. This work will include written assignments and supervisory work. There will also be an externally assessed case review.

CORE MODULESYou will be taught how to draw, including lecturer demonstration in the life class. As the course progresses there is an increasingly pluralistic philosophy, accommodatingdiversityofapproaches–includingfigurativeandabstractpainting,aswellassculptureandsitespecificartprojects.WeeklyArtHistorysessions are also delivered, encouraging you to evaluate your practice.
