HIGH VOLTAGE TEST (IS IS 4029:1967 - Guide for testing Three phase induction motor This standard covers three-phase induction motors for voltage up to and including 11 000 V and having windings with Class A to Class H insulation (see IS 1271 : 1985). The motors covered by this standard are assigned any one of the ratings. The High Voltage test shall be applied between the windings and the frame with the core connected to the frame and to the windings not under test and shall be applied only to a new and completed motor with all its parts in place under conditions equivalent to normal working conditions. The test Voltage shall be of power frequency and shall be as near as possible to sine wave form. The test voltage shall be commenced at half of the full test voltage and increased steadily at the increment of 5% of full test value in 10 Seconds. The Full test voltage shall be maintained for one minute During routine testing of machines of less than 5 KW, the one minute test may be replaced by a test voltage equal to recommended test voltage for 1 second, the test voltage being applied by means of probe. The test made on windings on acceptance shall not be repeated as far as possible. When such test is conducted, it shall be after further drying if considered necessary and the voltage being applied equal to 80% of the recommended value The Recommended test voltages are Inductions Motors (Stator Windings) Submersible Motors - 1500Volts for 30 Seconds

IS 4029:1967 - Guide for testing Three phase induction motor

This standard covers three-phase induction motors for voltage up to and including 11 000 V and having windings with Class A to Class H insulation (see IS 1271 : 1985).

The Full test voltage shall be maintained for one minute

During routine testing of machines of less than 5 KW, the one minute test may be replaced by a test voltage equal to recommended test voltage for 1 second, the test voltage being applied by means of probe.

The test made on windings on acceptance shall not be repeated as far as possible. When such test is conducted, it shall be after further drying if considered necessary and the voltage being applied equal to 80% of the recommended value

The Recommended test voltages are

Inductions Motors (Stator Windings)

Submersible Motors - 1500Volts for 30 Seconds

Monoblock motors - 2000 Volts for 60 Seconds

If it is faulty the trip switch in the high voltage tester to be tripped

And we will also find the location of the fault by a means of spark
