The Dayton Early College Academy and the parent/guardian of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded
by Title I Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents/guardians,
the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which
the school and parent/guardian will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State's high standards.
SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Dayton Early College Academy will:

MAP scores.
o Based on test information and on teacher observation in the classroom, a PLP is created for each high school student's
Gateway
Classes and programs are designed to help students learn. This includes:

year, parents/guardians will learn about DECA's Title I program and their right to be involved. Suggestions for working with
students at home will be one of the topics to be discussed at parent meetings.
There are grade level meetings for Junior High, First Year Academy (FYA) (ninth grade), and for the Upper High School

DIRECTORY INFORMATION POLICY NOTIFICATION
The Dayton Early College Academy, Inc., has approved the following policy regarding student directory
information:
Each year the Principal shall provide public notice to students and their parents of its intent to make available,
upon request, certain information known as "directory information." The Board designates as student "directory
information": a student's name; address; telephone number; date and place of birth; major field of study;
participation in officially-recognized activities and sports; height and weight, if a member of an athletic team;
dates of attendance; date of graduation; awards received; honor rolls; scholarships; telephone numbers only for
inclusion in school or PTO directories or email addresses.
Directory information shall not be provided to any organization for profit-making purposes.
Parents and eligible students may refuse to allow the Board to disclose any or all of such "directory
information" upon written notification to the Board.
In accordance with Federal and State law, the Board shall release the names, addresses, and telephone listings of
secondary students to a recruiting officer for any branch of the United States Armed Forces or an institution of
higher education who requests such information. A secondary school student or parent of the student may
request in writing that the student's name, address, and telephone listing not be released without prior consent of
the parent(s)/eligible student. The recruiting officer is to sign a form indicating that "any information received
by the recruiting officer shall be used solely for the purpose of informing students about military service and
shall not be released to any person other than individuals within the recruiting services of the Armed Forces."
The Principal is authorized to charge mailing fees for providing this information to a recruiting officer.
Whenever consent of the parent(s)/eligible student is required for the inspection and/or release of a student's
health or educational records or for the release of "directory information," either parent may provide such
consent unless agreed to otherwise in writing by both parents or specifically stated by court order. If the student
is under the guardianship of an institution, the Principal shall appoint a person who has no conflicting interest to
provide such written consent.
The Board may disclose "directory information" on former students without student or parental consent.
The Board shall not permit the collection, disclosure, or use of personal information collected from students for
the purpose of marketing or for selling that information (or otherwise providing that information to others for
that purpose).
Parents may:
A. inspect and review the student's educational records;
B. request amendments if the parent believes the record is inaccurate, misleading, or violates the student's
privacy rights;
C. consent to disclosures of personally-identifiable information contained in the student's educational records,
except to those disclosures allowed by the law;
D. challenge Board noncompliance with a parent's request to amend the records through a hearing;
E. file a complaint with the Department of Education;
F. obtain a copy of the Board's policy and administrative guidelines on student records.
The Principal has developed procedural guidelines for:
A. the proper storage and retention of records including a list of the type and location of record;
B. informing Board employees of the Federal and State laws concerning student records.
The Board authorizes the use of the microfilm process or electromagnetic processes of reproduction for the
recording, filing, maintaining, and preserving of records.
No liability shall attach to any member, officer, or employee of this Board as a consequence of permitting
access or furnishing student records in accordance with this policy and regulations.
Any staff member who shares confidential information with another person not authorized to receive the
information may be subject to discipline.

Dayton Early College Academy Student Email Acceptable Use Policy
Philosophy The Dayton Early College Academy encourages the use of student email as an effective and efficient way to
improve communication between students, faculty members and administrative staff. The primary purpose of
student email is to support teaching and learning.
This daytonearlycollege.org email account is housed on a Google mail server, thereby giving student access to
Google Docs (word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software) and also allowing teachers and students
to share information housed in these file areas with others.
1. Official Email Address All students in grades 9 - 12 will be assigned a daytonearlycollege.org student email account. This
account will be considered the student's official DECA email address until such time as the student is
no longer enrolled at DECA.
2. Prohibited Conduct Student email may not be used in the following ways:
• Unlawful activities
• Commercial purposes
• Personal financial gain
• False identity in email communications
• Misrepresentation of the Dayton Early College Academy
• Interference with DECA technology operations through
a. electronic chain letters
b. unsolicited electronic communications
c. disruption of electronic communications
3. Access Restriction
Access to and use of student email is considered a privilege accorded at the discretion of Dayton Early
College Academy. DECA maintains the right to immediately withdraw the access and use of student
email when there is reason to believe that violations of law or DECA policies have occurred. In such
cases, the alleged violation will be referred to the Principal for further investigation and adjudication.
4. Security
Dayton Early College Academy cannot and does not guarantee the security of electronic files located
on the Google Mail system. Although Google does have a powerful content filter in place, DECA
cannot assure that users will not be exposed to unsolicited information.
5. Privacy
The general right of privacy will be extended to the extent possible in the electronic environment.
Dayton Early College Academy and all electronic users should treat electronically stored information
in individuals' files as confidential and private.
There is an acknowledged trade-off between the right of privacy of a user and the need of system administrators
to gather necessary information to ensure the continued functioning of these resources. In the normal course of
system administration, system administrators may have to examine activities, files, and electronic mail to gather
sufficient information to diagnose and correct problems with system software or hardware.
Users of student email are strictly prohibited from accessing files and information other than their own. DECA
reserves the right to access the daytonearlycollege.org Google Mail system, including current and archival files
of user accounts when there is reasonable suspicion that unacceptable use has occurred.
Dayton Early College Academy (DECA) has created email accounts for all students in grades 9 - 12 to allow for
collaborative sharing using Google Apps for Education. These accounts will be used at school and outside of
school for school-related projects only with parent permission. The mastery of effective and proper email
communications by students is included in the Ohio Department of Education K‐12 Instructional Technology
Standards, in addition to allowing access to the wealth of collaborative tools available to students and teachers
once these accounts are assigned.
No student will be assigned an email account without parental or guardian approval. The email naming
convention will be first initial-last [email protected], such as the following for Johnny Smith:
Student emails will be monitored for inappropriate use. DECA has an email filter in place to help limit the
spread of spam and viruses.
