Case Study # 1 –modeling advanced
well completions
• The discovery is a upthrown, salt-cored structural closure
• The reservoirs are the Middle Jurassic (Hugin and Sleipner Fm) and Triassic (Skagerrak Fm)
• Hugin shoreface facies only deposited on crest of structure
• Sleipner and Skagerrak heterogeneous with mainly fluvial environments
• The Sleipner coal acts as a barrier between Hugin and the underlying Sleipner/Skagerrak Fm
• Uncertainty on OWCs – probably different in East and West
Reservoir description

Case Study # 1 –modeling advanced
well completions
The reservoir is complex in terms of disconnected fluvial channels, surrounded by
a large majority of shale.
The company was evaluating completion technology for horizontal wells as a
possible development strategy.

Case Study # 1 –modeling advanced
well completions
Fishbone completion is
implemented in Sleipner
fluvial facies.
It allows well to access
reservoir parts otherwise
sealed off by shale
layers.

INTERSECT ECLIPSE
Challenging runtimes with ECLIPSE due to massive amalgamated LGRs
Very practical runtimes with INTERSECT, very fast and scalable

Conclusions
Simulated incremental production from Sleipner fluvial reservoir of 17%
Similar result to Statoil's field test on Smørbukk South Extension (SPE-180390-
MS)
INTERSECT delivers value by runtime, scalability and integration with Petrel
Allows spending more time on the actual project rather than tuning a simulator
