    Locomotives, Propulsion & Controls

CNR Dalian Locomotives and Rolling Stock Co. Ltd.and Bombardier Transportation, Division Locomotivesand Equipment, signed a contract in February 2007 forthe production of 500 heavy-haul CoCo locomotiveswith state-of-the-art, high-efciency technology.

The rst and highest power member of the Harmony (HX)series electric locomotive, named HX D 3B0001, was rolledout from the workshop in Dalian city on 29.12.2008. This isa world record for development, a great result for both com-

panies. Never before was such a high power locomotive(9 600 kW) built in a single carbody unit.

The design concept relies on Bombardiers successful IORElocomotives delivered to LKAB, Kiruna and presently runningin Northern Sweden and Norway. The mechanical designwas, however, adapted to the single section with dual cabarrangement and for the increased 120 km/h speed.

Bombardier Locomotives scope of the new world classlocomotive is the vehicle design concept and the highlysophisticated control and communication software anddiagnostics. In addition, Bombardier provides professionalcoaching for employees of the partner company, focusingon detailed design and adaptation engineering, as well asmanufacturing and assembly works, including testing andproduct introduction.

Bombardiers Business Unit Propulsion and Controls deli-vers major equipment to the new heavy-haul locomotives:the most modern IGBT-controlled traction converter with

integrated auxiliary inverters and traction motor with nose-suspended drive unit and the TCMS control system. Thesenoble parts are based on the BOMBARDIER* MITRAC* technology, tried and proven in the largest modern electricand diesel-electric locomotive platform: BOMBARDIER*TRAXX* locomotives.
