An alternative guide to MIART 2015. by that’s contemporary

Rabbit #2 è una mappa concettuale che ti guida attraverso miart 2015.

Senza nessun limite di genere, disciplina, generazione e nazionalità, Rabbit #2 ha selezionato e negoziato con gallerie, curatori e artisti una cernita di otto “cose” da vedere in fiera e fuori in un percorso tra opere d’arte, oggetti di design, mostre e musica. Ad accompagnare il visitatore lungo il percorso, un racconto

in due capitoli è disponibile su Hideout (tana in inglese), la nuova sezione curatoriale di thatscontemporary.com.

Hideout non termina con miart. Piuttosto sulle tracce dell’arte a Milano svelerà con una serie di studio visit ricerche e retroscena del lavoro di artisti e curatori attivi in città.

Rabbit #2 is a conceptual map to find your way through miart 2015.

With no limit on gender, discipline, generation and nationality, Rabbit # 2 has selected and negotiated with galleries, curators and artists an array of eight “things” to see inside and outside the fair in a tale of artworks, design objects, exhibitions and music. To walk the visitor along

the path, a narrative account in two chapters is available on Hideout, the new curatorial section on thatscontemporary.com..

Hideout will not end with miart…Indeed, on the trail of art in Milan, it will continue through a number of studio visit unveiling artists’ and curators’ backstages and research.

Now it’s time to follow the rabbit...

Proiettarsi in un hotel, iniziare un dialogo, vivere i

materiali: l’esplicita richiesta dell’artista di continuare

l’opera con l’immaginazione, Jacques Rancière direbbe,

emancipa lo spettatore dalla passività della sua fruizione.

Envision a hotel, touch materials, start a dialogue:

Jacques Rancière would claim that the artist’s explicit

request to make use of the work through imagination finally emancipates the

bystander from the passivity of consumption.

Spiritosi, irriverenti e impossibili da dimenticare.

Gli abiti-tela sembrano usciti da una vetrina delle vie dello

shopping milanese, poi ad osservare bene ti accorgi dei difetti. Ma ormai è troppo tardi: con gli abiti-tela al

braccio (che non hai potuto non comprare!) “il pittore della domenica” ti manda

a casa a mezzo sorriso sulle labbra.

Witty, irreverent and impossible to forget. The suit-paintings seem lifted from the sleek shopping-

windows of Milan. However upon closer inspection, you

see the flaws. Well... It’s already too late: with the suit-paintings under your arm (that you eventually

bought!) “the sunday painter” is sending you home with a

half smile.

Si potrebbero spendere diverse parole in merito, ciò

che spicca è che questo tavolo da caffè, con le sue linee

spiccatamente minimaliste, è pura arte consegnata alla vita

di tutti i giorni.

We could say many things but what stands out is that this coffee table, with its

distinctly minimalist lines, is just pure art consigned to life

everyday.

Un dilemma centenario, quello del dualismo tra anima

e corpo, su cui le massime menti ci si sono scervellate,

da Sant’Agostino, a Cartesio, a Kant e via dicendo. Ditte,

con la scusa dell’IKEA e una buona dose di arguzia,

ricontestualizza la questione in termini di estetica

contemporanea.

For centuries, the dualism of body and soul has obsessed the greatest thinkers - from St. Augustine, to Descartes, to Kant and so on. Ditte, via

the pretext of IKEA, brilliantly reframes the issue in terms of contemporary aesthetics.

Nonostante questa estetica post-mediale, post-

capitalistica, post-internet sia ormai dilagata, dove parlare di binomi high e low o online e offline è anacronistico, Cory è ancora capace di stupirci,

stavolta persino con un discorso che parte da tubi in

platica.

Even though our shared post-media, post-capitalist,

post-internet aesthetic is now flooded, where talk of dualism between high and low or online and offline is anachronistic, Cory is still

able to surprise us, this time even constructing a

discourse via pool noodles.

Se, durante il miart, andare alle feste è già esperienza

imprescindibile, questa è proprio da non perdere

anche solo per il fatto che è una ricerca artistica

sul divertimento stesso. Si aggiunge poi che la

location è un ex-cinema, ex-discoteca, ex-strip club. Proprio da non farsi mancare niente.

During miart, going to parties is already an

unavoidable experience. However, this one is really not to be

missed - the site once held a cinema, then a nightclub, then a strip

club -, and now is part of an artistic research on

entertainment itself.

Già ci piaceva il fatto che Dry portasse l’arte in pizzeria, ma con questa

installazione addirittura sconfina dalle mura del

locale e conquista l’intera via Solferino Alta. E lo

fa al ritmo incalzante di una Manhattan descritta

dalla poesia di Frank O’Hara.

We already liked the fact that Dry brings art to a pizzeria, but with

this installation, it strays from the walls to claim

the whole street, via Solferino. And it does

so at the pace of a Manhattan as described

by the poetry of Frank O’Hara.

Quest’opera è sicuramente la punta lirica di Rabbit:

una appassionata diatriba tra la rigida geometria della

composizione e la mistica alchemica del materiale

utilizzato.

This work is the lyrical peak of Rabbit: a pasionate

dispute between the rigid geometry of the composition and the mystical alchemy of

the material used.
