in partnership with the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) and will cost $15.4 million.

Waiuku Bus ServiceThe amount of people utilising the new Waiuku public bus services is slowly increasing. The first week saw 125 passengers and 126 the following week. Auckland Transport will be monitoring these statistics over the coming months.

We have talked with various groups like Franklin Senior Citizens about the ease of converting your blue AT hop card to a gold hop card, giving free travel after 9am weekdays and all weekend and Public holidays. We are really hoping the schools will also encourage this great service to students. Our information centre has all the information and timetables so please don’t hesitate to call the centre or pop in and grab some. Remember the Blue AT Hop Cards can be purchased from Waiuku New World.

CCTV UpgradeThe CCTV upgrade is chugging along nicely and slowly all the cameras are being installed. As you may have seen in the Post last week we received a very generous donation of $10k from the Combined Churches Waiuku Op Shop. They were very keen to support this venture to give back to the community that has supported them so well in the past. The West Franklin Community Trust have also been very supportive in donating approximately $8k to the project. A huge thank you to you all.

COMMITTEE MEETING UPDATES, NEWS & MEMBER INFORMATION TO WBDA MEMBERS 25th November 2016

WAIUKU BUSINESS PARKTwelve years on ....... Is there life after lollies?Formerly the home of the Heards Barley Sugar lolly, the Waiuku Business Park has been fostering business in Waiuku for over 12 years, and doing a fine job too.

Since we purchased the site in 2004, we have seen many business’s establish themselves in the safe, friendly park-like surroundings. It took a few years to establish the address in the hearts and minds of the locals but in latter years the Waiuku Business Park has become well recognised as both a brand in it’s own rite and as the ‘Better Place to Do Business’ within the greater community. Today the Park is a hive of activity with about 30 business’, employing about 100 people on site; a far cry from week one back in 2004, when we had one sole trader occupying the corner of one small tenancy.

The changes have been dynamic over this time, and year by year they keep happening. One of the big advantag-es of the Business Park for the tenants is that as their business and space needs evolve we can usually work with them to accommodate these changes, be that more factory space, additional offices or some casual storage to get them through a tight spot. Several of our tenant partners have grown into ever larger premises without having to bear the cost of a re-location.

As the Business Park has gained popularity and the interest from the tenants has increased, we have added more and more buildings too to cater for the changing needs, with some additional new sheds scheduled to be built in the near future to cater for the small workshop or Trade depot users.

It’s interesting to note that while several business’ supply the local market, the majority of our tenants are sell-ing their products throughout the country, and the world. This is fantastic news for a town our size as it means they are not affected by the highs and lows of the local economy. Many of our business’s also utilise the services of their neighbours for a bit of reciprocal trade. A handy boost. The range of activity is always fascinating to me. We have fresh salads being produced and supplied to the country’s supermarkets, high energy dried foods being produced, the world famous ‘Grans Remedy’ foot odour powder is produced right here at the Business Park, engineering design and manufacture – producing plant and equipment for the automotive, banking and food processing worlds, ice making, outdoor furniture manufacturing, recycling, laundry, furniture removal and storage, general warehousing and ‘man-caves’, ‘ sheila’s-sheds’/ trade depots to identify only a few.

As you can see, the buildings and tenancies are suited to a wide range of uses, from office/ administration to general industrial including warehousing, manufacturing and storage, with quite a large area of food pro-cessing grade space (always in demand). Tenancy sizes are from as small as a single garage and up to several hundred square meters, or just outside-hard-stand space, so we’ve managed to accommodate most people’s needs. The main office suite area hosts several offices ranging in size from something comfortable for a single desk user who just doesn’t want to be in a home office environment, to a size comfortable for about 10 staff. All air conditioned and with a pleasant outlook.

In short, there is life after lollies...... and with the threat of sugar tax, that’s a great thing for Waiuku.

So, if you’re thinking ‘space’, think WAIUKU BUSINESS PARK, the better place to do business.

I’d love to hear from you, and if we can help you then that’s even better for both of us.
