WhatinfluencehasCaliforniahadonthecar?Mygoodness,wheredoIstart?Hotrods,customizing,countlessautomobiledesignandmechanicalinnovations,low-riding,drive-ins,roadsongs,teenmovies,theCorvette,convertibles,imports,vans,motorhomes,self-servegasstations,fastfood,Googiearchitecturaldesign—thelistgoesonandon.Californiaplayedahugeroleinallofthat,andstilldoes.

WhatinfluencehasthecarhadonCalifornia?Ithastransformedthestate.Wheels of Changebeginsinthe1890sandendsinthemid-1960s.DuringthattimeCaliforniawentfromvirtuallynocarstoaplacewherethereweremillionsofthemontheroads.Theautomobilechangedthephysicallandscapeofthestateandcountry.Itchangedourviewsoftimeanddistance.Itincreasedthepaceofourlives.Thechangescausedbycarshavereachedintoeverynookandcrannyofourlives.
