Hey hey hey ONE-MORE-TRI-ers!

Thank you sooooo much for choosing to support the 26,000 Special Olympics athletes across the state by competing in the 2019 ONE MORE TRI. This year marks our 8th year racing in iconic Asbury Park. We’re honored and super excited that you’re joining us!

ONE MORE TRI is not only a race for both seasoned and novice triathletes...which it certainly is...but it’s also a Special Olympics Unified Triathlon, which means that athletes with and without disabilities compete side-by-side. Last year, we had just under 350 competitors and almost 40 of them were Special Olympics athletes.

Get this…just about 1/3 of you are taking on your first triathlon with us at ONE MORE TRI on Sunday! That’s amazing! Is there anything cooler than getting to say you’re a triathlete? It’s a BIG DEAL! Just breathe and take in every unforgettable moment. We got you…every stroke, pedal & step!

To our awesome returning ONE MORE TRI-ers (who we love and are crazy grateful for!!!), we’ve got some changes to the course. You come out to race with us year after year and we didn’t want to hit you with new routes without warning. A portion of the boardwalk is closed for construction, so the run courses needed to shift. Please take a good look at the new maps so you’re ready to rock when you head out for the run leg.

We're taking big eco-friendly steps to make ONE MORE TRI sustainable. From race shirts made from recycled plastic to hydration stations stocked with reusable water bottles, we're rethinking every element of the race. A lot may have to change to ‘green’ the race, but the effort is worth it to protect the great outdoors that we all love to race in so much.

If you’d like to stick around after the race, there’s lots going on in Asbury Park on race day. Check out Oysterfest at Bradley Park in front of the Convention Hall. There’ll be lots of great food & drink, live music, craft vendor, and games & rides for the kiddos. Just flash your ONE MORE TRI wristband, and you’ll get free admission. Plus, the beach will be open. Sounds like a great way to celebrate after crushin’ the ONE MORE TRI!

Now, let's get to the information you've been waiting for! We want you smilin’, not stressin’, on Sunday morning. Read on to find everything you need to know leading up to the race…

Early Packet Pick-Up - We have two opportunities in Asbury Park for Packet Pickup

available in advance of the race: Friday or Saturday from 3-6pm. Both will be held at Edison Energy, our Host Sponsor, located at 613 Bangs Avenue in Asbury Park.

Race Day Packet Pick-Up - You can pick up your race gear on race day from 6:00-7:00am

near Transition. Please arrive early so you can set up in Transition before it closes at 7:30am.

You are required to show photo ID when picking up your packet. Youth athletes without an ID must be accompanied by a parent/guardian with a photo ID. You must pick up your own packet.

USAT Members - Please remember to bring your membership card and photo id when

picking up your race packet. If you have misplaced your USAT membership card, you can download a temporary card by logging into your USAT account at usatriathlon.org.

Non-USAT Members - Your One-Day License fee was paid at the time of registration - no

proof of payment/membership is required. However, all One-Day members must also

sign the USAT Waiver.

While we will have paper copies on hand at Packet Pickup, we encourage you to review and sign the electronic form in advance of the race. This will help to avoid delays during Packet-Pickup.

You can get to the electronic form by visiting the USA Triathlon page on the

ONE MORE TRI website or by clicking the button below.

Wristband- You’ll receive a green wristband which must be worn to get in and out of

Transition. Please put it on your wrist before heading into Transition.

Bike Number - Attach your bike number to your bike frame. Remove the paper from the

back of your bike number. Drape the number over your top tube so the printed number faces outward. Match the bottom edges & press the sides together to fasten the number securely.

Bike Helmet Stickers - You’ll find 3 helmet stickers in your packet. The (3) bike helmet

stickers should be secured on the front, left, and right side(s) of your helmet.

Run Number - Safety pins are supplied to attach your run number to the front of your shirt

or tri suit. Be sure to attach the number prior to the race. Note: If you have a race belt, clip your race belt around your waist during your bike-to-run transition so that the number is displayed to your front. Aquavelo: You will receive a run number in your packet. Please attach the

run number to your shirt before heading up to the finish line. It’s important for your finish line photo.

Swim Cap (Triathlon & Aquavelo only) The official swim cap found in your race packet must

be worn during the entire swim. Please do not trade your swim cap with another athlete as the caps are coded for your race category. If you have a latex allergy, please send a note to Jeanene at [email protected]. We have a limited number of silicone caps which we can code for your wave.

Event Shirt - All One-More-Tri-ers will receive a custom, eco-friendly, event shirt. You’re not

required to wear this shirt for the race. These shirts are offered as a keepsake exclusively to race competitors.

Race Bag - All your race gear will be packaged up in a clear, stadium-friendly sack-pack.

Each relay team member will have their own race packet. Only the required gear for your legof the race will be included in the packet: Swim Cap for Swimmer, Bike Number & HelmetStickers for Cyclist, Run Bib for Runner. The swimmer for your relay can pick up the team'stiming chip on race morning near the entrance to transition. The swimmer should place thetiming chip around their left ankle using the included velcro strap. The timing chip will beworn by the swimmer and then passed to the biker in transition. The biker will then transferthe strap and chip to the runner. The chip is worn for all three legs of the race and can beworn under a wetsuit. The chip will be collected at the finish line.

This is what you’ll find in your race packet:

Parking - Our friends at LAZ Parking are offering free parking in the lot behind the iconic

Address is: 700 Ocean Avenue, Asbury Park, New Jersey, 07712There is on-street metered parking, but you must pay to avoid getting ticketed. If you choose to park on the street, please avoid Ocean Ave and Kingsley Street.

Prior to entering the Transition Area, you’ll need to pick up your timing chip and get body marked. Plan to have your race number handy for the volunteers.

Timing Chip - Pick up your timing chip on race morning near the entrance to transition.

Place the timing chip around your left ankle using the included velcro strap. The timing chip is worn for all three legs of the race. These chips and straps will be collected at the finish line. If you need to drop out of the race for any reason, please return that chip to a volunteer in the transition area.

Body Marking- All body marking will be done race morning as you enter Transition. Plan to

have your race number handy so the volunteer body marking you is writing the correct number. In preparation for body marking, please do not apply sunscreen, body glide, or any type of lotion prior to being body marked.

available should you need help setting up your transition area. You may place a towel on the ground to sit and put on your shoes; there are no chairs allowed. All bikes must be in Transition by 7:30am.

You are amazing!!! Truly!!! As you well know, Special Olympicsprovides a gateway to empowerment, fulfillment and joy. And ourwork would not be possible without the wonderful support ofcommitted family and friends like you. We are so very grateful foryour generosity and enthusiastic fundraising efforts.

ONE MORE TRI is more than a race, It’s also a fundraising event for the athletes of SpecialOlympics New Jersey. To those of you who donated your hard earned cash to help us propelthe Special Olympics mission forward, we are so very grateful. When it comes to asking yourfriends and family to donate too, it’s intimidating. We get it. And we want to say…

- $250+Participants who raise $250 or more will receive a one-of-a-kind bag made from

repurposed billboards. Every bag is 100% unique! Cool, huh?

- $500+In addition to the very awesome upcycled bag, participants who raise $500 or more will

also get a custom hoodie made from recycled plastic water bottles. Do you detect a theme here?

- 5 While your real reward is knowing that you’re helping to provide access to sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the state,

we have some extra special surprises for you!

We know you don’t do it for the gifts! But it’s important to US that we show YOU our immense gratitude. Stop by the SWAG TABLE after you've crossed the Finish Line.

We will be on the boardwalk. We want to say THANK YOU in person!

Volunteers are the life blood of the One More Tri! With hundreds of competitors across a race course which spans nearly ten miles, we need lots of energetic volunteers to help us create a triathlon experience that is uplifting, and most importantly, safe! We’ll have over 200 volunteers onsite to make sure this race runs smoothly, and feeling fabulous.

Please remember when you’re racing to thank a volunteer! They showed up before the sun came up to lend a hand for YOU!

We still have some spots to fill…every single volunteer and every single role is necessary and important! If you have anyone in your circle of friends who has a heart for helping others achieve their goals and dreams, direct them here for more info.

SWIM ANGELS - Monmouth University Swim Team shows up every year on the beach to

volunteers as SWIM ANGELS. They are THE BEST!!! All of these extraordinary Swim Angels share a love of swimming and the desire to help others complete their goals. You can identify

a Swim Angel by their metallic gold cap.

Swim Angels provide guidance, support and encouragement during the swim segment of the race. Swim Angels are not responsible for rescuing swimmers in distress; certified lifeguards will be in water and on shore to fill that role. Swim Angels may not move you forward.

BIKE ANGELS - If you see a cyclist wearing in a red shirt with big angel wings on the back,

that’s a BIKE ANGEL. This is a SIGNAL to PROCEED WITH EXTRA CARE. Bike Angels will be riding behind a racer who needs extra support on the course. If passing, you must pass BOTHthe Bike Angel and the athlete in front.

RUN ANGELS - You may spot runners along the course wearing the red shirt with angel

wings, just like on the bike course. These are RUN ANGELS. They are not competing in the race. They will be running alongside athletes who need some guidance maneuvering the run course. Some are Special Olympics coaches. Some are Monmouth University Baseball Players. Give them a “thumbs up” when you see them along the run! They’re angels for sure!

Will Bike Mechanics be available on race day? Yes!!! Thanks to the skilled bike techs from Asbury Park Cyclery. You can find them at the west side of Transition, starting at 6AM.

The Asbury Park Cyclery team will also have two Bike Support Crew patrolling the bike course on Sunday. The Bike Support Team can mechanical issues, and continually remind cyclists to keep to the correct side of the road. Bike support is not guaranteed, so athletes should be prepared to fix their own flats. In case of a flat, pull off to the side of the road, NOT into the middle lane. Those who cannot continue will be required to wait for the sweep vehicle.

Klein Chiropractic Institute is experienced in working with athletes from uber-competitiveto weekend warriors. KCI will be onsite to provide athletic taping and treatment for minor sports-related injuries. KCI’s tent will be conveniently located in between the Finish Line and Transition. Stop by to be treated by Dr. Klein before or after the race.

Now that we’re 8 years into this race, we’re ready to take the next step in making this raceeven more impactful. We recognize that, when planning our events, every choice we makecomes with the opportunity to be good stewards of the planet. So, our goal for 2019 is tominimize the waste and wastefulness of the race. We’re jazzed about going “green”!

Making ONE MORE TRI eco-friendly means getting ridof single-use disposable plastic water bottles. We’llhave 3 hydration stations where participants &volunteers can fill your reusable water bottles with ice-cold, filtered water.

Our event apparel is all American Made and Eco-Friendly. The unisex tees are 50% organic cotton & 50%recycled plastic. And the women’s tanks are 100%Viscose Bamboo Organic cotton jersey. You won’tbelieve how soft these tees are!

When you cross that finish line…feeling exhausted and oh so proud…you’ll be awarded awell-earned finisher medal made out of bamboo and recycled bike chain!

&If you’d like to keep your cap & race bib, go for it! But, if you plan to toss them, drop them inour collection box and we’ll deliver them to Terracycle for recycling.

All food tent waste will be sorted by our GREEN TEAM to be sure we recycle and compost asmuch as possible. We’re even working with Terracycle to recycle the snack wrappers.

This race is a unique and inspiring event and we encourage you to bring out your friends and family to cheer you on! Heck, as long as they’re getting up before the sun to support you, they might as well cheer all the racers on!!

We want everyone to have a great day! We ask that spectators be courteous to everyone present and keep in mind the following reminders…

Ocean Grove Beach Church will be holding Sunday Service at 9AM at the Boardwalk Pavilion. This is our Peaceful Zone. Let’s be respectful of the services occurring in the pavilion and be suuuuuper quiet! You can cheer on the racers by holding up signs. But, please no cheering or cowbells or noise makers near the Pavilion. Once you get into Asbury Park, GO NUTS!! WOOOOOHOOOO IT UP!!!!

This race course uses open areas and public roads. As a result, it is important that spectators be conscious of their surroundings and be careful not to interfere with the athletes during the race.

Racers have the right of way. Spectators must yield to racers in progress.Be considerate of all participants by remaining out of the finish line approach areas and the recovery area.

If you must cross the finish line approach run, please look for triathletes and wait for them to pass by before proceeding.

Know your athlete's bib number & have a plan to meet up after the race.

The beach and shops along the boardwalk will be open. Plus, Oysterfest will be kickin’into gear at 11. There’ll be soooo much great food, drink, live music, and lots of stuff for the kids. Why not stick around Asbury Park for the day?!?

Volunteers are welcome and needed! Volunteering is a great way to get a close-up and behind the scenes view of the event,

so encourage your friends and family to join the fun by signing up here.

While most of the bike course is closed to traffic, there are stretches of the course where vehicles may be present. Use caution, obey police, and never pass a slow moving car on the right.

You must have a helmet in order to compete in the race. You need to have the helmet on your head and strap buckled before you leave Transition.

You are not permitted to ride your bike in or out of Transition. Please watch out for other athletes as you move through Transition and follow the instructions of race officials and volunteers.

The bike portion of the race begins on Ocean Avenue. Get on the bike when instructed by the volunteers.

Obey police, and watch for cars coming out of these small sleepy shore neighborhoods. Stay right, pass left...Stay right, pass left.

When completing your first loop, STAY LEFT and go for a second loop.

You will mount the bike on the road outside of Transition. Get on the bike when instructed by the volunteers. The bike portion of the race begins on Ocean Avenue.

Obey police, and watch for cars coming out of these small sleepy shore neighborhoods. Stay right, pass left...Stay right, pass left.

After you’ve completed your bike loop, STAY RIGHT. Prepare to DISMOUNT. You need to dismount your bike before getting to the DISMOUNT line. To dismount safely, slow down and be in control of your bike.

After you dismount, speed walk your bike into Transition.

USAT rules do not allow cyclists to ride in a group or side-by-side. You are required to leave a 3-bike length gap between you and the cyclist ahead. If you are passed it is your duty to drop back 3-lengths, not to speed up and hold the person off. Once they are next to you it is your duty to drop back and then make the pass. This applies to Bike Angels as well.

Important note: USAT rules require that you have bar ends (plugs) on your bike in order to compete.
