Reggie died Saturday, November 18, 2017. He was born in DeRidder, Louisiana on January 16, 1926. His parents were Herman Iles and Delma Bass Iles. He was the oldest of three boys. His brothers were Larry Gene Iles and Clinton Blanchard Iles.

At the age of two he moved to Beaumont and attended Averill Grade School, then South Park Elementary. He met his wife to be, Mary Ann Frank, in the third grade and they both graduated from South Park High School in 1943, he was named the John Gray Athletic Scholar.

Reggie qualified for the Navy V12 program and decided to become a dentist. He entered the Navy and attended college at Louisiana State Institute in Lafayette, Louisiana. When he finished his qualification for dental school, the semester had already started. The Navy assigned him to the New Orleans Naval Hospital for almost one year.

Reggie and Mary Ann married on December 23, 1948.

In 1949 he graduated from the University of Texas School of Dentistry, Houston, Texas.

In active duty during World War II and the Korean War he served as a Naval dentist, stationed in Milton, Florida, San Diego, California, San Francisco, California and Bremerton, Washington, then across the Pacific aboard a Marine Transport ship in Tokyo, Japan and Hong Kong.

After discharge from the Navy in 1952, he opened a private dental practice in Beaumont, Texas.

Reggie and Mary Ann had five children, Blan, Herman, Carolyn, Elizabeth and John. Reggie was a long time member, teacher and deacon of Calder Baptist Church; member, president and vice president of the Sabine District Dental Society; a founding member of the West End YMCA and PICA Investment Venture, and served on the Board of Trustees at Texas Bank of Beaumont. He was part of the Rescue Relief Team in the

Texas City Refinery explosion, to rescue survivors and identify dental records. He founded and taught the dental assistant program at the Lamar Institute of Technology, and brought dental implantology to the Beaumont area.

Reggie was a beloved husband to Mary Ann for just short of 69 years.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Iles; his brother, Clint Iles and his wife, Ann Tucker Iles; children, Blanchard Frank Iles, Carolyn Iles Hanak and husband, Guido Hanak, Elizabeth Ann Iles, John Stuart Iles, Bobbi Gail Poulton Iles, daughter-in-law and Linda Iles Owen, sister-in-law; grandchildren, Reginald Iles Blakeley, Janice Elizabeth Blakeley, Herman Reginald Iles, III, and Kerri Nickole Iles; nieces and nephews, Cherie Kay Lansdon, Amy Lea Iles, Ruth Iles Brown, Kathy Iles Cowman, Delma Ann Iles, Clinton and Terrilyn Iles, Julianna and Scott Gahn; and great-nieces and nephews, Roy David Crush, Christina Schmitz, Natalie Austin, Sarah Cowman, Rachel Cowman, Gilland Brown, Robert Gahn, Elizabeth Gahn, John Gahn and Anastasia Williford.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Iles and Delma Iles Wheat; son, Herman Reginald Iles, II; and brother, Larry Gene Iles.

For over 20 years Gilbert Perez attended to Reggie and Mary Ann at their home and became Reggie’s right hand man and fishing buddy.

The family wants to extend a special gratitude to his caregivers: Sheila Harper, Alma Green, Lanae Johnson, Rachel Gilder, Passion Brooks, Shan Harper, Yolanda Sittem, Angela Bell, and Tiffany Zachary.
