Third grade reading scores are an important indicator of future benchmarks, such as ability to read at an 8th grade level, high school graduation and even rates of incarceration. Third grade is the year that children move from learning to read to

reading to learn. From the table to the left, Heritage Academy is performing at twice the national average and three times the local proficiency rate in reading.

In math, our third grade proficiency rate is even higher, at 85%. We have a poverty rate comparable to Richmond County.

His image.

From the desk of our Executive Director:The search for identity is a common and fundamental pursuit of human beings. For the last 18 years , Heritage Academy has been helping children answer the question “Who am I?” Every week, as an entire student body, we recite the student proclamation from memory. Regardless of abilities, status and origin, each child is who God says he is.

Your gifts to support the students at Heritage affirm that you believe it about them too.

From a heart full to overflowing, I thank you.

Student ProclamationI will strive for excellence.I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.I will work to achieve.I am the light of the world.I have something to offer.I am created in His image.I will change the world.I am more than a conqueror.Who can stand in my way if God is for me?Who can be against me if God is for me?I have no excuses.

What New Teachers are Saying

S T A F F

Heritage Spotlight: 2018 Field Day

“Heritage is love in action. It is digging deep to give the best education to our students. Heritage is growing my own faith while watching Him grow in each child in my classroom.” - Alice Dorn, 4th Grade Teacher

“Heritage has become family; the children have become the dearest to me and life is so much richer for it!”

-Meghan Valerio, 7th-8th Grade Science Teacher, Media Specialist

“To me Heritage means opportunity. The school makes you feel like you can do anything you put your mind to. I’ve enjoyed teaching because the kids are eager to learn and the staff is willing to support. I believe ‘the harder you work for something the greater you’ll feel when you achieve it.’”

-Krystal Hawes, Spanish and Math Teacher

What New Teachers are Saying

Heritage Spotlight: 2018 Field Day

Ebonye Smith, our 2018 Prize for Excellence winner, is currently pursuing a bachelor’s in Spanish and a master’s in computer engineering. Smith hopes to use her degrees to travel to Spanish speaking countries, serving as an international ambassador to communicate the importance of technology and software. She credits Heritage Academy’s strong math curriculum with building her love of math and engineering. Heritage Academy inspired Smith’s success by reinforcing “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), a verse she remem-bers when overcoming barriers. We are so proud of you, Ebonye!
