Has the

“Amicable Divorce” Finally Arrived?

Accredited family law specialist, Juliette Kinsey, of Kinsey & Co Solicitors in Baildon, is offering her family and matrimonial clients an alternative to the Family Law Courts as a way of resolving their disputes which arise from the breakdown of their relationship, by providing clients with the Collaborative Law approach - thereby enabling separating couples an opportunity to resolve their issues in a dignified and respectful manner around a table rather than in a courtroom.

The collaborative approach to resolving family law disputes originates from California and was developed in order to offer separating couples an alternative to litigation and all the heartache, stress and unpredictability that comes with an acrimonious divorce. Instead clients and their solicitors sign a contract that commits them to resolving matters through a series of open discussions around a table. Clients can discuss any issue they wish providing that they treat each other with respect, dignity and integrity and are open about financial matters. Juliette Kinsey explains further: “Traditionally, separating couples have had few options as to how to resolve issues relating to their children and their finances. At best some solicitors offer a mediation referral which, whilst successful for some couples, has proved unsuccessful for many. This leaves couples who cannot reach agreement with no real alternative other than to proceed through the family courts which often creates acrimony and can have a detrimental impact on the lives of their children. The Collaborative Law approach provides couples who wish to avoid the

confrontational process of court proceedings with a genuine alternative enabling them to address their concerns face-to-face in a confidential and constructive way without the threat of court proceedings hanging over them.” It is only in the past five years that collaborative law has become an available alternative to separating couples in the UK, but already early research indicates that couples who adopt the collaborative approach resolve their issues in a more constructive and sensitive manner and in many cases achieve a level of communication between each other which would not have been possible had the parties been through the court process. This can only benefit couples with children as future dialogue regarding parental issues is more constructive than destructive. “Collaborative Law is not a difficult concept to explain to clients. In many cases clients wonder why it has taken so long for the legal profession to adopt an approach which seems like common sense. Whilst there will always be a need for Family Courts it is important that clients are offered both approaches because in many cases resolving matters away from the court system is best for them and their children,” says Juliette. However, not all family law solicitors can undertake Collaborative Law work and therefore couples wishing to deal with their

separation collaboratively need to individually consult specially trained Collaborative Lawyers

such as Juliette Kinsey in order to access the service. Both solicitors will then work together for the benefit of both parties and facilitate a series of non-confrontational meetings enabling negotiations to take place professionally but also with a human touch. Whilst divorce may be a fact of life for many couples, how they divorce is a matter of choice. Adopting the collaborative law approach may be the best option for separating couples who hope to achieve the nearest thing to an “amicable divorce”.

If you are considering separating from your spouse or partner and you want to know whether Collaborative Law is best for you and your family please contact Juliette Kinsey on 01274 589900 to make an appointment or visit www.kinseysolicitors.co.uk to find out more.

The ‘holistic’ approach to massage means to treat the body as a whole, and practitioner Helen Stanhope of Rodley, knows better than most the benefits of Swedish

Holistic Massage having experienced how it has improved her own arthritis and circulatory problems. Following a horrific accident, Helen faced years of reconstructive surgery and physiotherapy to fight her way back to health. However she was left with terribly painful arthritis and poor circulation which no amount of medication could relieve. After trying Swedish Holistic Massage Therapy, the benefits were so amazing that Helen trained to become specialised in the technique herself to allow her to help other sufferers in the same way.Helen said: “The term ‘Swedish Massage’ refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying various pressures to them against deeper muscles. Swedish Massage is also designed to enhance the immune system, eliminate toxins, increase oxygen flow in the blood and help drain fluid from tissue and cells,

shortening recovery time from muscular strains. It can also promote better circulation without increasing the heart load.“If you suffer from stress, back problems, anxiety or headaches, this kind of holistic massage can be extremely beneficial, promoting the healing process and rebalancing the body.”Helen is a walking example of just how effective Swedish Massage can be when performed on a regular basis by a well trained, experienced therapist. Over the years Kebabeesh at Greengates, Bradford, has become renowned for its events, gatherings and trips. Whatever the occasion Kebabeesh

will endeavour to meet their customer’s requirements, providing set menus and creative solutions to their exacting high standards.

St Gemma’s Hospice would like to say a special thank you to the award winning restaurant, for organising their second annual charity dinner in April this year. The evening was a fantastic mix of excellent food, entertainment, an auction and a raffle and raised a grand total of £1,527.

Tracie Harrison, fundraiser for the Hospice, said: “This is a fantastic amount and we are indebted to Jehangir Durrani and all the staff at Kebabeesh for holding this event in order to raise the vital funds we need to care for terminally ill patients. If it wasn’t for the generosity of Kebabeesh and the guests who attended the event this amount of

money would not have been raised.”

Owner Jehangir Durrani chose to support St Gemma’s after the Hospice cared for his mother, Zahida Shahnaz. The family were very grateful for the care and support St Gemma’s provided to the whole family during that time.

At Kebabeesh owner Jay and his fantastic team are well known for their superb hospitality and fabulous food. They make sure that every visit to their restaurant is never your last!

The SOCATOTS programme teaches basic ball skills, movement and co-ordination exercises in a fun and playful environment, and has proved hugely successful around the world as a great tool to encourage toddlers to take their first steps to

fitness.

The courses extend far beyond just physical exercise, SOCATOTS aims to improve balance and co-ordination, further develop cognitive skills, enhance muscle and bone development, increase self confidence, and demonstrate the benefits of keeping fit through a number of learning exercises.

Research has shown that children who are physically active from a young age are more likely to have better concentration skills in the classroom, and this is the philosophy that underpins the SOCATOTS programme.

SOCATOTS is more than just a football programme. It is an innovative concept where children can learn and play through sport and at the same time strongly encourage parental involvement, resulting in the development of stronger bonds between parents and their children. It benefits the childs development physically, socially and emotionallyThe programme has received huge acclaim, to include having been voted the Best Football Activity at the What’s

On 4 Little Ones Awards (UK) 2008. Model Nell McAndrew is an ambassador for the programme, while the likes of Sir Clive Woodward, Socrates and Sir Trevor Brooking have hailed the benefits of youngsters that attend SOCATOTS sessions.

All SOCATOTS® equipment is specially designed for children to develop physical skills of agility, balance and co-ordination, from skittles, hoops and bean bags to specially designed footballs for small feet.

DM Academy in Shipley was founded at the beginning of 1999 by Deana Morgan, and if you have ever met Deana, you will have experienced her enthusiasm and zest for performing arts, and life!I first got to know Deana when I attended her launch of Zumba classes at the beginning of this year. More about Zumba in another feature!

Deana is Principal and driving force behind DM Academy, rapidly raising the school’s reputation within the local performing arts community to be one of the most respected in the country. So I was delighted to be invited to attend and review Deana’s fabulous show, ‘Earth, Wind & Fire’, at The Alhambra Theatre in Bradford at the beginning of September. This production was two years in the making from conception to ‘show time’! Deana booked The Alhambra a year in advance to secure the dates she wanted, and her pupils signed up to be included in the show in January this year, with practice sessions starting straight away plus the design and making of the 2,000 different costumes required!Although here at MAD Publications we designed and printed the programme, as glossy and classy as this programme was, we had absolutely no idea how blown away we would be by the standard of the sets, costumes, choreography, different dance styles and singers, in particular one absolute star of the future, Charlotte Marsh, a young pupil who sang so faultlessly and confidently that many of the audience

had tears in their eyes, me included.Whatever ‘it’ is, Charlotte has ‘it’ in bucket loads! Remember her name. This was the kind of show you would pay good money to see anywhere. From the haunting opening poem Planet Earth, read by the late Michael Jackson, to the cutest Budding Ballerinas performing Octopus’s Garden and the absolute show stopping Feet of Flames Irish Tap routine which deservedly got a

standing ovation! There was so much to ‘Earth, Wind & Fire’ that I just don’t have the space here to tell you and do it justice, because whether you like tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary or street dance there were all of these elements to enjoy. If you love the music of Michael Jackson, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Blues, Pop or Classical, you could not fail to be moved or get moving. All of this was on stage and behind the scenes there were constant costume changes, chaperones helping the younger children and big production stage management that made everything we, the audience were watching seem effortless and amazing. Every performer no matter what age had their moment in the spotlight and it was wonderful. On April 30th 2011, DM Academy has been invited to perform the ‘Feet of Flames’ tap and ‘Earth, Wind & Fire’ mega mix routines at The Royal Albert Hall as part of ‘Stars in the Round’. That’s how good DM Academy is!

Celebrate Christmas and New Year in style this year with sumptuous, traditional, hearty menus in luxurious, spacious surroundings. Dating back to 1543, The Stansfield

Arms is a beautiful beamed historical pub and restaurant, and already renowned for its style of food and menus that reflect a wealth of high quality, locally sourced produce. Wherever possible owners and brothers, Nick and Chris Green, support Yorkshire farmers, fishermen, fruit and vegetable suppliers - helping to keep their business local and support the local economy. They have won many awards over the last six years and they are proud that they have turned each of their three local Gastro Pubs, which also include The Chevin in Menston and The Black Horse at Askwith, into welcoming establishments where everyone is made to feel welcome and comfortable whether dining alone or with friends. However, their Christmas Party Nights in the luxury marquee at The Stansfield Arms are renowned for possibly being the best in the area. You can join lots of other people on the date of your choosing for a superb traditional Christmas meal and a lively end to the evening, dancing the night away. Or if you would like the whole marquee for a private Christmas function, or any other private celebration or event, then it is available throughout December, lunchtimes and evenings without a hire charge!

Saturday December 4th has already been booked for the Bradford and Airedale Cancer Support Snow Ball and Saturday 11th for Chloe’s Appeal. The marquee provides the perfect setting for such high profile charity events, so much so that they book every year well in advance to make sure they secure the dates they want. December christenings and weddings are also very popular in the marquee. Buffets in the marquee start from £15.95 per head and set two course sit down menus start from £24.95 per head. New Year’s Eve is a fabulous event at The Stansfield Arms, again held in the luxury marquee with live entertainment, a fun casino and a complimentary glass of bubbly at midnight.Christmas Party Nights are from £29.95 per head.New Year’s Eve is £44.95 per person or £40 per head for complete tables of ten. The Chevin Inn, sister pub to The Stansfield Arms, is a lovely cosy pub that dates back to the 18th century with room for 42 diners at one time. Set in the idyllic Chevin area of Menston, this is a cosy, recently restored historical pub and restaurant. Christmas meals here are a more intimate experience; the food and atmosphere are perfect if you prefer a quieter celebration.

How many caring parents out there have been on the receiving end of, “That’s wrong, we don’t do it like that at school!”? Frustrations like this, which have built up

over a period, can often come to a head at homework time with the people a child is closest to. Education specialist, Frank Page,

who runs a successful local tuition centre, teaching children of all ages, says: “We see this all the time, someone who may not have the confidence to put their hand up in the classroom or admit in front of thirty classmates that they are struggling to grasp ideas will understandably vent their negative feelings on parents when they are tired and would rather be watching television or playing with others. For even the most caring and patient of parents this can be a very wearing and worrying experience.”

Confidence

For many children homework tears are a symptom of a general lack of confidence in one or more areas of learning. A child can sometimes feel they are being asked to do XYZ when they themselves know that they never really grasped ABC confidently. They can feel confused between what they are being asked to do and what they know they can comfortably achieve. A builder would not feel comfortable in laying new bricks on wobbly foundations so why should your child be any different? In extreme cases this can lead to behaviour problems both at school and home. In other cases a child may simply disengage from learning and become the dreamer in the corner. “In our education centre we find that even the brightest of children who have lost confidence and self-esteem come to us for help, quotes Frank.

GCSE

On the other hand, over confidence and complacency can sometimes be a problem with children such as teenagers studying for GCSEs. More able children may feel inclined to freewheel and fall behind their true potential whilst others might not fully grasp the requirements of the GCSE syllabus. For all students the exams seem so far away for such a long time and then creep up all too quickly. According to Frank: “We often find that GCSE students in particular realise too late the shortcomings in their learning, with little time to put things back on track.” Consequently, confidence is seriously diminished at exactly the time it should be at its highest.

Professional Tutoring – A brighter future

In recent years parents have increasingly realised that professional tutoring can be a very effective way of boosting a child’s confidence and self-esteem by providing a fun and stimulating learning environment. The traditional idea of a private tutor sitting at the kitchen table and battling with limited resources against the many distractions of the home, T.V., Hi-fi, siblings, etc., has been overtaken by the idea of purpose-equipped Education Centres, often staffed with qualified teachers. Here children are taught with individual learning plans based upon their own specific needs. In Frank’s opinion: “Children like learning with other children around, when the work set is engaging, fun and appropriate to their unique level of development! Children also need a caring environment that helps to build confidence and put them on a steady course to success. ”

Providers

There is an increasing number of Education Centres delivering a high quality of private tuition after school and at weekends in the West Yorkshire region. Most provide free assessments and cater for a wide variety of ages and abilities. However, not all employ fully qualified staff so, to be sure, ask before you commit yourself.

The elusive search for that perfect mix and match top is at an end, with the launch

of sotto e sopra’s new range of eco friendly, simple women’s tops. The independent online retailer launched by businesswomen christine foden and pauline mathewson, has unveiled a range of tops made from the environmentally sustainable fabric lyocell. They chose the company name to match the function of the basic tops. ‘Sotto’ means ‘under’ and ‘sopra’ means ‘over’ in italian. The range has been developed to fill those gaps in a woman’s wardrobe for well cut simple basics that can be worn under or over. The tops are made from ‘green’ fabric lyocell which has luxurious feel, with its silky yet dry handle. Sotto e sopra tops are cut to be worn close

to the figure but not skin tight, creating a flattering fit which accentuates the best features of the wearer. The tops have been designed to be versatile and are suitable for formal occasions and business wear or they can be layered and worn with jeans or skirts to create a casual look.

They are also ideal for layering with your favourite summer pieces to take them into the autumn and winter or for wearing under those ‘little tops’ designed for evening wear which you can’t resist wearing during the day.

Alternatively you can embrace the growing trend for ‘simplicity and basics’ and wear the tops on their own (sotto). The tops are available to order online at

www.sottoesopra.co.uk

- ideal for busy women who do not have time to trawl the high street for basic tops.

The tops are made from lyocell which is soft and luxurious draping well to create a flattering look and preventing the tops from riding up. It is resistant to wrinkles and can be machine washed. Lyocell is sourced from sustainable eucalyptus forests which are used to create the cellulose pulp that the fibre is made from. The closed loop manufacturing process minimises the use of chemicals and does not require bleach or chlorine. The fibre was awarded the european union environmental award 2000 in the category “technology for sustainable developments.” Pauline mathewson owns sotto e sopra with business partner christine foden. She said: “we decided to launch the company as we both had found the search for that range of perfect simple top elusive, despite having searched all over the world.”

Let’s get

“The sotto e sopra range of tops are elegant, simple and well finished and can be worn by themselves or with suits, jeans, a jacket or under or over another top.” Christine foden has a background as a colour consultant for the fashion industry. She says: “i have spoken to friends and family and people i have met out and about browsing boutiques and markets and most women have agreed that good quality, well priced simple and stylish tops are hard to come by. Sotto e sopra offers a high quality designer feel at an affordable price.” “There is also a strong feeling amongst many that looking good shouldn’t cost the earth, which is why we are offering our customers tops made from an environmentally sustainable fabric.” Sotto e sopra’s range of tops includes a variety of styles of long, short and ¾ length sleeve tops, t shirts and vests available in a range of classic colours such as mountain blue, rosa, taupe or black. The tops are priced between £35 and £60

and are available from www.sottoesopra.co.uk If you find sotto e sopra a little of a mouthful – team behind the brand are also using the tag loveses.

‘It’s a catchy abbreviation’ says christine. ‘My first job in fashion was in italy, so i tend to think everyone can speak italian, it’s such a logical language, but i somehow think loveses is the name that will catch on and we develop – we hope you will love our ses range.”

Should I Fix?

If I had a pound for every time someone asked me this question, I’d be a

rich man. Unfortunately, the answer is not so simple. When are rates going to increase? And by how much?

The truth is we don’t know. Ask 20 of the brightest economists and you are likely to get 20 different answers. One can try and second guess the market, but, this is living dangerously if your household income cannot support higher interest rates.

When choosing what product to go for, whether you are a first time buyer or remortgaging onto another deal, there are several important factors to consider including affordability, personal preferences, current circumstances, potential future changes, fees and level of lending relative to property value (‘loan to value’). However, often the most difficult decision is whether to opt for a fixed or a variable rate.

A fixed rate will give you security for as long as you have that product. However, you may end up paying more if interest rates remain low. A variable product will cost less initially, but if, interest rates increase you could end up paying more. It’s a difficult decision! If you are completely undecided, you can always opt for a hybrid product which is part fixed and part variable, or alternatively, a product which allows you to switch onto a fixed rate if you change your mind.

If you are remortgaging, you should always check the reversion rate of your existing product. If you are one of the lucky ones and find yourself on a low base rate tracker (0.5 - 2%) you would not be criticised for holding onto this rate. If you do come off your base rate tracker, you will lose these favourable terms as the reversionary rate on your new product is likely to be much higher (3.5% - 4.5%).

If, on the other hand, you are a first time buyer, or have reverted onto a higher standard variable rate (3.5% upwards) you have less to lose and in my opinion, a longer term (3-5 years) fixed rate offers great value. It’s hard to see fixed rate deals getting any cheaper, so from that perspective, it’s probably a good time to apply for one. As fixed rates have come down, the margin between them and variable products has also reduced, making the price payable on a fixed rate much more attractive.

One also needs to calculate the cost of remortgaging carefully, as high arrangement fees added onto the loan can incur significant interest charges over the term of the loan. Be careful when paying any fees upfront which are often non refundable. If the valuation of the property is down valued, you could be left ineligible for the product and out of pocket as the products often have loan to value restrictions. Of course many other factors need to be taken into consideration, not least affordability, loan to value limits, preferences and circumstances. Above all don’t try and second guess the market, but, consider which product is suitable for you, based on your preferences, affordability, your existing product and future intentions.

FARSLEY RESTAURANT DEEVA

SCOOPS WHEATFIELDS HOSPICE AWARD!

Just six months after opening in Town Street, Farsley, Asian restaurant Deeva has been

acclaimed a Top Charity Entrepreneur after its customers raised £700 to support the work of

Wheatfields Hospice, Leeds.

The Deeva team, led by co-owners Zulfi Hussain and Sanjeev Johar, organised a Ladies’

Night featuring a lavish Asian buffet and cookery demonstration, plus a chance to learn

some Bollywood dancing skills.Beauty care techniques, hand massages, henna

tattoos and sari dressing were also on the menu for the special evening.

“It’s a fantastic result,” says Chris Normington, a fundraiser for Sue Ryder Care’s Wheatfields

Hospice in Headingley, Leeds, where dedicated staff support people with cancer, multiple

sclerosis or motor neurone disease.

The restaurant was one of ten West Yorkshire businesses to take up the charity’s challenge of turning a £50 investment into a healthy profit.Deeva opened in Farsley following extensive refurbishment of what for many years was the highly popular Porritt School of Dance, in Farsley Town Street. The restaurant has

created jobs for eight people, including three experienced chefs.

On the day, the children prepared, cooked and of course ate the food provided by Sainsbury’s.It was a fantastic day; the menu was Stir Fry Chicken, Fruit

Kebabs and Fruit Muffins.

Sainsbury’s Otley also donated £100 to a local club (The Croft Social Club), which is run by Sid and Barbara Ingleson. The money came from the local community grant funded by the sales of Sainsbury’s Bags for Life. Sid accepted the grant which will be used towards The Croft Social Club Christmas lunch.

Helen Broadhurst from ‘Sainsbury’s Try Team’, and Dot Smith ‘Food Sampler’, made a visit to the Otley Sainsbury’s charity of the year, Aireborough Summer Activities

Scheme (children with disabilities).

Local brothers Nick and Jean Paul, run Armour Glaze, a double glazing repair specialist company. Their family business leads the way in replacing sealed glass double

glazing units in either UPVC, wood or alluminium frames and they can supply the very latest in energy-saving window technology. If you want to improve your carbon footprint, have you considered Low-e glass? Low-e glass varies from normal clear glass in that one side of the glass has a special metal coating, technically known as a low emissivity coating. This increases the energy efficiency of windows so that in the winter your house stays warmer, and in the summer it stays cooler.Nick said: “Many double glazing companies on seeing misted glass units will tell you that it cannot be fixed, and will then try to sell you a new conservatory or new windows. At Armour Glaze we specialise in replacing only the misted units at a fraction of the cost.”A customer of Armour Glaze, Ann from Bingley, tells us about her experience.

“I called two reputable companies to look at the misted windows in my conservatory, both said the problem could not be fixed and both recommended a new conservatory. After hearing about Armour Glaze, I asked them to take a look. Thank goodness I did, my conservatory now looks as good as new and the cost was over £5,000 cheaper than the nearest quote! I was very happy with their work and thought they were wonderful,” she said“There are many other reasons why you might want to call Armour Glaze, apart from having steamed up windows,” said Nick. “You might be bored with your leaded windows and want more light, or you might want to freshen up your front door. Just like the windows, we can change the door panel at a fraction of the cost of a new door.”Sue from Gilstead agreed. She commented “I was so happy with the way Armour Glaze transformed my conservatory and bedroom windows that I recommended them to a friend who was also very happy with their work.”

7Ways

to market your business through this

recessionThis year’s going to be a tough one for most businesses. I’m not saying that to just jump on the dreaded “R” word bandwagon, or try to hype up the doom and gloom unnecessarily, but just because the ‘ostrich’ approach isn’t helpful either.

Those who continue to market their businesses through a recession are going to find things

easier than those who don’t. People haven’t stopped buying altogether, they’ve just slowed down and are thinking much harder about whether to spend the money, and if so; who to spend it with.

If you stop marketing but Joe Bloggs down the road continues to email and mail your customer with special offers, who is your customer going to spend their money with when they do decide to buy? Chances are, they’ll have forgotten about you. And that’s not a nice thought. So here are some helpful, and not too costly, ways that you can market yourself through this recession. Here’s to survival!

Sit down and really think about how you’re going to position your business to survive this.

The reasons people were buying from you a year ago might be different to the reasons they buy from you now. What essential product or service do you offer in this marketplace? Adapt or die, as one of my customers said to me recently!

Evaluate how effectively your marketing is supporting that message at the moment.

Do you need to adapt to your copy? Is your design appropiate? Do you need to introduce some new marketing collateral? Do it now.

1

Explore as many ways as you can of getting your message out there.

Some may be free, some low cost, some will be worth investing in. Just keep asking

yourself, will this help me promote my marketing message?

3Create a plan that you’ll commit to for the next six months.

I’m not talking about bankrupting yourself with zeppelins and TV advertising, but

the best marketing is consistent and persistent. And that takes time. Set yourself a budget and commit to investing in your business.

4Stop wasting money on marketing that won’t support your goals.

If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing properly. Dont just go for the cheapest

option because it’s cheap, you’ll probably be undoing your hard work. By planning a proper budget you can make sure you have money to spend on the things that will help your business flourish.

5

Get on the phone and talk to your customers, about how you can help them at the moment.

Ask them if they know of anyone else who might be interested in what you do. Ask them how their business is going. Even if they don’t buy from you, you’re still keeping your business at the front of their minds.

6

Invest in a marketing planning session.

Your local printing.com team can help you attack the market this year. They’ll help you define a recession-busting proposition for

your business, explore the options available to you and create a marketing plan that you can start implementing the very next day for profit.

Message from Inspector Peter Tuff Eccleshill of Neighbourhood Policing Team

Incidents of burglary tend to increase as the darker nights draw in, and your local Neighbourhood

Policing Team (NPT) has been part of the latest force burglary prevention campaign to urge households to keep their doors and windows locked, their homes lit and their valuables hidden. Some very simple security measures could stop you being a victim of crime. It sounds like commonsense but it is surprising how many people leave windows open or forget to lock doors when they are not in their homes or have gone to bed. If not in the house leave at least one light on and consider partially drawing your curtains. Do not leave any valuable items for example mobile phone, I-pod, keys etc in open view.

These very simple but effective measures could stop you being a victim of crime.

Also, as the darker nights draw ever closer and with bonfire night looming, the police receive more calls regarding anti-social behaviour and misuse of fireworks. I would ask that if you are a parent of teenagers, you consider where your children are, who they are with and what are they are doing. You should be able to answer these three questions every time your child leaves home. The vast majority of young people are sensible and cause no problems. However, there are a small number that do cause anti-social behaviour. The police will always take any calls received regarding anti-social behaviour seriously and deal accordingly with those who do cause problems.Anyone who contacts the police will always receive a follow-up call to keep them informed of our actions and to see if we can assist with any other issues.

Here at MAD Publications, we absolutely love it when we discover someone who offers a unique service that is perfect for all start up businesses and businesses wanting to move to the next level. So we were absolutely ecstatic to come across Andy Thompson and his brilliant concept TooCan!

For any business needing a ‘knock ‘em dead’ website without the usual massive financial outlay for design and hosting, Andy is the man to speak with, for reasons we will go into shortly. First let’s tell you a little about Andy and how TooCan came into being. Andy studied mechanical and production engineering after leaving school and found a passion for designing products that offered a solution to everyday problems, a passion that grew during his time working for a plastics engineering company after he finished his apprenticeship. Then through a chance meeting he was introduced to some people who worked in the security industry and he started to develop security systems and solutions for protection to high risk corporate organisations, including solutions for such as anti-terrorism. This line of work took Andy all over Europe, however after a family bereavement, he decided on a change of direction, going back to his roots developing, manufacturing

and marketing his own products. To date Andy has sold over one million products that he has personally designed, manufactured and marketed and he has two products currently in development which are almost ready to market; one is for the security industry which will be launched under a new brand called Ko-Ko, and one for consumers, both are being kept tightly under wraps until completed as the volumes Andy anticipates selling run into literally hundreds of thousands. As part of the process and the marketing mix when launching his products, Andy has developed many of his own websites, some as promotional sites and some for direct sales. Along the way he has regularly been asked for advice, and he realised that he could provide the something unique for start up and small businesses requiring a website as an essential part of their marketing mix and strategy, without the usual expense of a professional web designer and avoiding the pitfalls of trying to design your own site, which can result in something very unprofessional and ineffective. TooCan offers a no-risk and very low cost web presence, a site designed specifically to fit each individual business needs plus ongoing support and advice, marketing and networking ideas...and all from £5 per week!

Yes that’s correct; it’s not a typing error! That’s why we approached Andy after seeing his branding and marketing for TooCan. Having met with him to find out more, we were bowled over by his work ethic and passion to help local businesses succeed. To give you some idea of how quickly Andy can work for you, TooCan took just one week to develop from concept to marketing, designing, setting up his total brand, his website and securing his first five customers! This could be happening in your business. To find out more and to receive Andy’s FREE document – ‘26 Marketing Mistakes to Avoid’, which is a must have set of TooCan tips for every small business which has been developed specifically for MAD Publications customers and readers, contact Andy with your details:

Fed Up Of Black Unsightly Mould - At last a real

alternative to ceramic tiling!!

“Our panels provide a decorative and functional finish to walls and ceilings in any room. They are however ideally suited to bathrooms and kitchens with many advantages over ceramic tiles.

They are much quicker to fit, there’s no need for grout, and they offer improved insulation and will not support bacteria or mould growth!” Explains Damian Campbell, owner of Yorkshire Cladding Centre Ltd in Bradford.

Damian, originally from Bingley, moved away in 2002 to Newcastle after being made redundant from the Bradford & Bingley. He worked for his cousin selling internal upvc cladding in Newcastle until May this year.

After marrying his wife, Amanda in 2007, they decided to move back to Bingley in May this year as they missed family and friends, and this was the perfect opportunity to set up Yorkshire Cladding

Centre in his local area.

A superb, cost effective and more decorative alternative to tiles, decorative cladding was extremely popular in Newcastle and seeing that not many people sell this product in the Leeds/Bradford area, Damian saw a gap in the market. “The cladding is easy to install, even the most basic DIY enthusiasts can fit it. I carry a large range of colours and styles along with assorted finishing trims and adhesives. My showrooms have been specifically designed for people to look at what’s available and how fantastic a finished room looks.

As well as bathrooms and kitchens our panels are also suitable for use in shower rooms or shower cubicles and once completed provides any room with the ‘wow’ factor!”

Produced from extruded PVC with a paint and lacquer finish to the front face, the panels simply fix together in a similar way to tongue and groove timber cladding. Panels can be fixed directly to existing sound surfaces, including tiles, using a variety of building adhesives, or can be fixed mechanically (nailed, screwed or stapled) to timber battens on uneven surfaces.

A visit to Damian at Yorkshire Cladding Centre is a must to see just how fabulous your rooms can

look, you will also be pleased at the price!

It’s probably the most important day of your lives. You have spent months and maybe even years planning

every little detail. You will have all your family and friends under one roof and you want photographs to document this occasion. So, how do you go about choosing the perfect photographer?

Things to look for:

Price – obviously price is a big factor •and generally you get what you pay for. Most photographers will offer wedding packages. It’s advisable to take a close look at what is and isn’t included. For example, will you receive an album, if so, how many pages? Are any printed images included in the package? If not, how much will they cost? How long will the photographer be at your wedding? Some photographers offer coverage from the bridal preparations through to the evening celebrations, others sell packages by the hour.

Photography style - How would you •like your wedding documented? Are you keen on lots of formal family portraits or would you prefer a more informal documentation of the day, or a mixture of both? A good photographer will ask you plenty of questions and listen to your requirements.

Personality – A good wedding •photographer will take time to meet you well before the wedding, to get to know you as a couple. The more you feel at ease with your photographer, the more natural your pictures will be. Some photographers offer a pre-wedding shoot as part of their package. This is a great opportunity not only to establish a rapport with your photographer, but for you to get used to being in front of the camera before the big day. The added bonus being that you’ll end up with some amazing shots of the two of you!

Examples of their work – Try to get •a feel for the photographer’s style. In addition to any images which

might be on their website, ask to see a complete wedding album. This will give you a good idea of the quality and consistency of the work they produce.

Challenging conditions – as we all •know the weather in this country can be very unpredictable so ensure your photographer can deal with all types of weather. The inside of churches and wedding venues can be dimly lit so make sure you see examples of how the photographer has overcome these challenges.

Spare equipment – technology can •go wrong so you need to know that the photographer has spare kit for back-up.

Insurance – this is often overlooked •

but should be a must for your own peace of mind. A wedding photographer should have public liability, professional indemnity insurance as well as having their equipment insured.

Book early – wedding photographers •often get booked up to 18 months in advance. It’s advisable to start sourcing a wedding photographer as soon as you’ve fixed a wedding date and venue to avoid disappointment.

These are just a few pointers to get you looking in the right direction. It’s your wedding day and it’s a big investment, but with the right photographer you can have a great deal of fun and come away with a beautiful album and a stunning set of images which you can treasure for the rest of your life!

Baildon In Bloom’s “Wacky Scarecrow Walk” on Saturday 11th September started off at 7am in pouring rain when the exhibitors began their setting-up session, which lasted

three hours. Fortunately the rain didn’t last long and it meant exhibitors were soon setting up their scarecrows around the village. Apart from the odd shower, by lunchtime the sun was shining and crowds were pouring into the village. The Committee has noticed that the public created a “carnival atmosphere”. Everybody was smiling and laughing and it was obvious that they had come to enjoy themselves and were eager to start searching for the 172 scarecrows that had been set up around the village and of course to make a note of the best scarecrows in the competition. There were some wonderful characters like Wallace and Gromit in St John’s churchyard, along with Buzz Lightyear and other fantastic creations. One humorous scarecrow up Westgate was “Computer Man”, which kept blowing up with a cloud of smoke. Further up the road was a scarecrow high up on a lighting standard, doing a pole dance to music – just a bit risqué!

There was a spectacular creation made by members of a Mencap group called Unique Voices based at Ian Clough Hall. Their theme was “Pirates of the Caribbean”. They had built a pirate ship called Black Pearl, which was 20 feet long with cannons and an anchor and decorated with gold lettering. There were scarecrows on board the ship of Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinker Bell. The staff and the members of the group were dressed as pirates and were having a good old sing-song with sea shanties and this made it all very realistic. The boat will feature in the group’s pantomime version of Peter Pan, to be performed at Ian Clough Hall on 17th November, 1st December and 8th December, at 1pm. Please telephone 07 919 542 016 for tickets, which cost £2.The event turned out to be one of the best for Baildon In Bloom. We can look forward to another Wacky Scarecrow Walk next year. The winner for the best group of scarecrows, awarded a silver platter, was the pirate ship. The winners in the general category were: (1st Prize, cup) Wallace and Grommit, (2nd Prize, digital camera) Sponge Bob and (3rd Prize, meal for four at Webster’s) Computer Man.

More than just a concept car which has become a reality, the RCZ marks a new chapter in the history of Peugeot “lifestyle

vehicles”. Its expressive and innovative styling, its luxurious interior, its efficient and environmentally-friendly engines and the driving enjoyment they create will project the Marque into a future which promises to be more exciting than ever.

Drawing inspiration from the passion and know-how of its designers and engineers, Peugeot instills its brand values in every vehicle it manufactures. Sometimes however, freed from constraints and fired by creativity, Peugeot takes a bold new step and introduces “lifestyle” vehicles that are truly exceptional. The latter always arouses emotion, inspiring admiration among motoring enthusiasts and immense pride on the part of their makers.

Certain concept cars exhibited at international motor shows also follow this example. Sometimes their power of attraction is so great that the desire to see them take to the road becomes unstoppable.

As a result in September 2007, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Peugeot unveiled an exercise in style that left no observer unmoved: the 308 RCZ concept car. The idea of marketing the car on a commercial basis quickly became a reality.

However, the transformation from concept car to production vehicle required real determination, boldness and inventiveness… qualities for which the manufacturer is renowned.

Stylists and engineers worked together to ensure that all of the vehicle’s specification lived up to the promise of its exterior styling.

Indeed while the main aim was to conserve the stylistic blueprint of the concept, despite the considerable constraints imposed by its production and commercialization, the challenge went much further. Highly ambitious targets were fixed in terms of driveability and production quality, to give the car its own strong and unmistakable identity.

This compact 2+2 coupé was, therefore, designed to become an exclusive vehicle, “something special”, a melting pot of emotions, aimed at modern and particularly demanding customers with expert opinions on what constitutes driving pleasure.

Its name, RCZ, symbolises this distinctive and singular positioning in relation to the Peugeot range, since it is the first passenger vehicle

RCZ It Chooses YouIt Owns You

Page 45: Here & Now Magazine

not to use the numbering system with a central “zero” or “double zero”.

The RCZ therefore illustrates the sum of Peugeot values, which are constantly realigned with the times. Designed to enhance the sheer enjoyment of driving, the RCZ is also dynamic (the top of the range model features an all new 1.6 litre THP 147 kW/200 bhp engine), and responsible, offering an innovative blend of performance and environmental-friendliness. With its reduced weight, fine-tuned aerodynamics and modern engine technology, the entry level model has CO2 emissions of only 139 g/km.

An extension of this thinking is the RCZ equipped with HYbrid4 technology which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This RCZ is based on the same power train as the 3008 HYbrid4 which will be available in Spring 2011: a 2.0 litre HDi FAP 120 kW (163bhp) in front and a 27 kW (37bhp) electric motor at the rear. This concept has emissions of only 95 g/km of CO2 whilst benefiting from a potential of 147kW (200bhp) and four wheel drive.

This reflects Peugeot’s wish to offer this type of technology on different vehicles in its range; vehicles which can be very different (crossover, coupé…) which may be based on different platforms but with a common theme: to offer renewed driving enjoyment.

Another challenge the project faced was to successfully develop this new vehicle within a particularly short time span. With this in mind, it was decided the vehicle would be assembled at a production centre that specialises in exclusive vehicles built in small production runs, inside the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria.

As a result, just two years after being exhibited as a concept car, the RCZ will be unveiled for the first time in public, in its definitive form, at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show.

I believe it was Harry S Truman in 1945 that had a sign on his desk in the White House which read ‘the buck stops here’. You could forgive any City fan at the moment asking

if that same sign is on Peter Taylor’s desk.I am writing this article just after the Northampton defeat and prior to the Rotherham game, I was going to write “the Rotherham defeat” but I feel that would be to cynical. However City fans are beginning to

question their own sanity and who can blame them.

Peter Taylor seemed to have turned round the flagging fortunes of City last season as we finished with a run of 6 games without defeat; however the wheels have well and truly come off the City bandwagon. At this moment in time we are averaging 3 shots a game on target which is an abysmal rate. It’s fair to say that in all my 50 years of following City this seems to be the lowest point. I probably know it isn’t the lowest point as we have 38 games to rectify the problem but can’t help feeling it is; actually it’s Peter Taylor who has 38 games to rectify it or maybe he hasn’t.

It’s not easy to express my feeling on this matter and some may say give it time but here are a few of the comments from avid City fans which are taken from the City website messageboard before the away game at Rotherham.

This is normally an away match I wouldn’t normally miss but to be honest I’m struggling to get motivated to get to this one. I just can’t make my mind up, please help me decide.............

I won’t be going, it just doesn’t appeal to me at the moment and I can’t seem to find the interest..............

I’m not normally one for making rash decisions and normally I’d say a manager deserves at least till Christmas before being given the push. In this case however, I feel it’s not too soon to get rid.............

Ok here is another angle on the situation. If Alex Ferguson took over tomorrow with our current squad would he change our fortunes round and if so how long would it take? I don’t know what the outcome would be, I just wonder!!!!!

............

We are lacking anything remotely like cohesion; we can’t defend simple long balls into our box. We don’t create enough decent chances for the strikers which Taylor signed, 4 goals in the league, one from a striker, which was a penalty. We are generally outplayed on shots and possession home or away. Back four has only been the same for 2 games consecutive. We have only won 2 games, losing 5 after today’s result. We are not even drawing/winning the games when playing poorly. We play centre-halves up front because the right signings were not made in a full summer. We have a goal difference of -8, and are 12 points off of top place, 13 if you count the goal difference. All that together screams to me, something is fundamentally wrong. I don’t know what to think anymore

So let’s just hope Peter Taylor can find the magic touch and turn our fortunes around, I must admit to feeling the same as some fans and was questioning my loyalty over the last two weeks.Still whatever happens I’m sure I’ll be still cheering the City on from the stands with the other diehard. The situation at the moment isn’t the best but I’ve seen worse situations turned around in the past, perhaps if Peter Taylor can do that he’ll be able to look at that sign which says ‘the buck stops here’ and smile.

I sincerely hope so because the long suffering City fans do deserve better.Well then here’s hoping for an upturn in fortunes and a charge up the league.

S imon Grayson has paid tribute to the Leeds United fanbase by hailing the club’s support as an “inspiration.” A month into the start of the new npower Championship season and Leeds are

already confirmed as the best supported club in the Football League. With an average of almost 30,000 so far and sell-out away trips to Nottingham Forest, Watford, Barnsley, Doncaster, and Ipswich United fans seem to be enjoying life back in the second tier. The 6,700 who went to Barnsley in September formed the club’s biggest away support in the league since the trip to Wigan in February 2005 – and is likely to be the highest away following of any club in the top four divisions this season. “Our fans are absolutely top drawer,” insisted the United boss. “We sell our full allocation wherever we go, and we get great crowds at home. “When you have a support like we have it acts as an inspiration for everyone to do well. “It’s an expensive business watching football in this day and age and we appreciate the lengths our fans go to. “We want to give them something to shout about, and hopefully they have been pleased with our start to the season.”

Three more join up

Simon Grayson added three more new signings before the transfer window closed in August. Striker Ross McCormack from Cardiff City was the highest profile transfer with the Scotsman making his debut as a late substitute at Watford, less than 24 hours after completing his move north for an undisclosed fee.

Attack-minded Honduran international Ramon Nunez also joined the club after impressing while on trial, and loan midfielder Adam Clayton joined on a permanent deal from Manchester City. Grayson also added another new face after the transfer window closed with former Premier League midfielder Amdy Faye signing a short-term contract. The Senegal international has signed until January.

Centenary Pavilion to open its doors

The new Centenary Pavilion opened it doors at Elland Road this month.Leeds United already boasts some of the best conference and banqueting facilities in the city but the improvements will increase the size and allow the club greater scope for hosting bigger events than in the past. United chairman Ken Bates said: “It’s very exciting and people will be able to see that when it re-opens in September. “Some people ask why are we spending on that and ask where the money comes

from. Well, the money comes from income which we generate outside football and the pavilion is a very important part of that. “It has been such a successful operation we have had to turn people away all the time, clients away all the time and events away because we were not big enough. “With 1,450 seats and split into two 700 suites we will then be able to offer every kind of facility, every kind of function. It will be the biggest in Leeds, probably the biggest in Yorkshire, probably the biggest between Newcastle and Manchester.”

Fans raise six-figure sum

Leeds Fans Remembrance (LFR) has raised over £130,000 for children’s cancer charity Candlelighters over the past 12 months. The group of Leeds fans, who set about raising money for charity in memory of Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, the two Leeds fans murdered in Istanbul, were keen to thank everyone who has supported the events and raised funds over the course of the past year. Speaking on behalf of Leeds Fans Remembrance, Dave Mclean told us: “It is a year on Saturday since we did our first event - the Three Peaks. LFR would like to thank everyone for taking part and giving up their time and effort to raise money in the memory of Chris and Kevin.

“Both families are really touched by the fundraising.”

Over the course of the past 12 months, there have been sponsored walks, bike rides, scooter evenings, casino evenings, and one group even took part in a Tough Guy challenge. Leeds manager Simon Grayson recruited former players, Yorkshire cricketers, and the Kaiser Chiefs to take part in a memorable fund-raising match against a Leeds Fans Remembrance XI at Garforth Town in March, the game attracting a crowd of around 1,500.

There was also a huge fund-raising dinner held at Elland Road in April.

While LFR has thanked everyone for their support and assistance over the year, Leeds United would also like to congratulate the group on all their hard work in raising such a substantial sum of money.

Leeds Rhinos have revealed ambitious plans to transform their Headingley Carnegie home ground over the

coming years but have told supporters that they must have direct input into making that dream a reality. On the field, Leeds Rhinos have enjoyed a golden period in the club’s history over the past decade culminating in three Grand Final victories in a row and the team’s first visit to the new Wembley Stadium coming up against Warrington on the 28th August. Off the field, the business has grown substantially and in 2006 the Carnegie Stand became the first major development at the stadium for over 70 years. However, with the Super League license system now in place there is a need for Leeds to make major renovations to their 120 year old home. Chief Executive Gary Hetherington has revealed the plans to supporters but insists he will not jeopardise the clubs future to fund the development. Instead the club have taken the ground breaking decision to reveal the projected costs and set up memberships schemes so supporters can see directly how they can help transform one of the most iconic stadiums in world rugby. Hetherington commented, “We’ve come a long way in the past decade, both on and off the pitch and the growth and support of our fan base has been a key factor. Everyone has played their part in a fabulous team effort. Together we have taken the club from a six million pound deficit to a position of no debt, a new Carnegie Stand, a new training facility and a team who have enjoyed more success than any other at the club in our 115 year history. “We want this to continue for the next decade and we are about to embark on the most adventurous development to date - the completion of our Vision - “to be recognised as a venue of excellence and the number one rugby club on and off the field”. This will require: - A new scoreboard video screen - A new South Stand with bars and catering facilities - A new pitch & drainage system - Improved facilities in the North Stand “The total cost will be in the region of ten million pounds and this will require the club

to borrow and repay over the next decade. History has shown that many sports clubs have embarked on ambitious ground developments which have subsequently proved to be a burden and adversely affected performance of the team and club.

“We have to ensure our development is achievable and indeed can add extra value to our organisation. In short, our plan has to be to afford the cost of these developments. Every Rhinos fan can help achieve this vision by becoming a member in 2011. Over recent years we have developed a range of memberships which mean that whatever your circumstances there is an option to suit you. Bronze, our basic level membership, is just £25. Silver & Gold season ticket memberships remain the best value way to enjoy watching live games at Headingley Carnegie and now we have launched Rhinos 4 Life, the ultimate membership package for every Rhinos fan which will see your commitment rewarded with a 4 year season ticket price freeze!

“Our junior fans are the future of this club and they continue to get outstanding value with their season tickets and the opportunity to join Ronnie’s Club. Importantly, every penny generated from Membership sales in 2011 will go directly to realising our vision to create a venue of excellence for our fans and their families to enjoy and a legacy for the future.

“We also want supporters to become an ambassador for the Rhinos by helping us find new members and fans so our target can be achieved. Together we can deliver the ‘Vision’ and provide a team and venue to be proud of for many years to come,” added Hetherington.

Season tickets for the 2011 season will start from £200 for adults and just £40 for juniors which includes all 13 home Engage Super

League games plus the Fourth Round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup next season plus £10 off in the club shop included with a host of other benefits.

Commenting on the plans Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield said, “Playing at Headingley Carnegie Stadium is a huge honour and privilege. The stadium has so much history and heritage right from the very start of our game and it would be fantastic to see it transformed in to a modern arena. Leeds fans have shown a incredible amount of loyalty and dedication to the club down the years, through the good and the bad times. Fortunately we have enjoyed some good times in recent years and the club obviously wants that to continue. I think it is great that fans can see how they can help their club and build a legacy for the future and I am sure they will make the most of this opportunity.”

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McClennan said, “Our home is the envy of world Rugby League because of the fantastic acts and deeds that have been performed here in the history of our great game. Headingley Carnegie reminds me a lot of my old favourite ground back home in New Zealand at Carlaw Park. Unfortunately, that ground is no longer there, demolished to make way for a new development and it saddens me to think that the next generation will never get to go to a true home of Rugby League ever again. We have a great opportunity to secure the legacy of our home in the coming years and it is an exciting time to be part of the Rhinos family.”

Season Tickets for the 2011 season are now on sale, with a number of great membership packages available. For details on all Rhinos memberships visit www.therhinos.co.uk or call the ticket office hotline on 0871 423 13 15.

With all the comings and goings at the Grattan Stadium at the end of what has been a disappointing season, it’s easy to forget that one of Mick Potter’s first jobs

as head Coach was to make sure the services of one of the club’s best young prospects, Elliott Whitehead, were secure for the foreseeable future. Whitehead, who turned 21 earlier this month, made his First Team debut in 2009 and last season appeared in 29 of the club’s 30 games, scoring nine Tries. He is seen as a vital cog in the wheel of the Bulls for many years to come. Elliott started at the Bulls in 2007 and has made rapid strides, particularly in the last couple of seasons. He cemented his place this year and together with fellow young player, James Donaldson, he is seen as the future for the club over the next ten years,Bulls Football Manager, Stuart Duffy is delighted to have secured the services of Elliott for another three years:“Elliott has been tremendous for us since he came into the side and, although his contract still had a further year to run, we were keen to offer him this new improved deal to reward him for the progress he has made. He has certainly earned it and we are delighted to have him at the club for the next three years, during which time we fully expect him to make his full International debut.” Stuart Duffy said. His form for the club meant he was on the radar for several other clubs but Mick Potter moved quickly to tie the youngster down, not that he needed much persuadingElliot Whitehead commented: “I had another year left on my previous deal but they offered me a new contract so I was happy to accept it. I don’t want to go anywhere else because this is my hometown club and I love playing for them. I’ve been in the first team for two years now and although results haven’t gone our way, I’ve enjoyed my time. We’ve got a good coach and some quality players so we should have a better season next year.”

Despite his swift rise to prominence, Whitehead is taking nothing for granted.Having watched the Bulls strengthen their back-row options by signing Olivier Elima and Ian Sibbit, and with James Donaldson set to return from injury, the former West Bowling amateur knows the fight for places will be fiercer than ever. He said: “It’s going to be hard to keep hold of my place. We’ve got the likes of Olivier Elima coming in so we’ve got some good players in the second row. I’ve played pretty much every game this year but I’ll be fighting hard to keep my place because I know there won’t be any automatic selections next year. I’m just focusing on pre-season now. “I’ve got a lot of hard work to do in the gym because I want to get bigger but I’ve got to keep my speed as well.”Whitehead’s signature is the icing on the cake for many Bulls supporters who love nothing better than to see a local lad play for the club. Whitehead will be joined next season with the aforementioned Elima and Sibbit in addition to Chev Walker, Shaun Ainscough, New Zealander, Patrick Ah Van, Bryn Hargreaves from St Helens as well as this season’s leading scorer in the Co-operative Championship, Shad Royston from Halifax.
