1 Grape Antioxidants Combat Anxiety in Rats Eating grapes may help relieve anxiety and also minimize anxiety-related hypertension and cognitive impairments, according to a new rat study by researchers at the University of Houston. It is the antioxidants in the grapes that seem to play a protective role on anxiety-like behavior, learning and memory function, and hypertension. The research was presented at the Experimental Biology conference in San Diego, California. Although anxiety disorders, cognitive impairment and hypertension are distinct and complex disorders, they share key features and often overlap. For example, one-fourth of the 40 million Americans with an anxiety disorder also have hypertension. Furthermore, oxidative stress is considered a contributor to learning and memory problems, although the reason for this is not yet clear. The researchers used a rat model to examine the role of oxidative stress as it related to both anxiety-cognitive impairment and hypertension. They discovered that feeding the rodents a grape-enriched diet for two weeks prevented the anxious behavior, learning and memory problems, as well as a rise in blood pressure compared to the rats with induced oxidative stress but no grapes in their diet. “These results suggest promising potential for grapes in a very important area of health,” said Samina Salim, Ph.D., the lead investigator.

Papaya Sweet Answer to our Well Being and Health

Just recently I came across an eye opening book

by Barry Thomson “Join Our Escape From Death Row-Cancer Jail”, where he in a most genuine

and generous ways shares valuable information and his knowledge in effective fight against

cancer and ill health. Among other very interesting information I red about simple but wonderful

papaya and its healing properties. One chapter in this book awoke in me more desire to learn and

research as much as I possibly could as on a professional level I deal with people suffering many

different health issues and aliments who look for alternative ways to help them. I would love to

can also juice the leaves and stems but be prepared for the vile taste of it …. you can’t naturally

like its taste nor does the cancer cells.

People with type O blood flourish on a high-protein diet because they digest meat easily. The most beneficial meats for type O blood types are lamb, beef, venison, mutton and veal. However, type O blood types should not consume pork or goose. The most beneficial fish for type O blood types are herring, mackerel and cod, and the least beneficial are catfish, conch, octopus, salmon, barracuda, caviar, octopus and pickled herring. 

Type O blood types should severely restrict eggs and dairy products and should not eat many whole-wheat products because they are not well tolerated by this blood type. My maternal grandparents were both diagnosed with high blood pressures which my mother had also inherited from them. One of the many discomforts my mother always complains is that of herstomach pains which she thinks might be causing her blood pressure to rise.

 

We have been in the look out for any discomfort she is feeling. We hadobserved before that after she had eaten her meals, she would complain feeling dizzy. I was searching into the Internet about medical symptoms similar to hers and found out that what she is actually experiencing was an acid reflux. This is a disease commonly known asGastrointestinal Reflux Disease or GERD and is also related to heartburn. This is characterized by a cough, burning sensation in the stomach, chest, sore throat, and pain in the gastric region. Often patients with GERD will experience the presence of gastric content returning into the oral cavity (mouth) especially upon lying down at night.

The bignay fruit tree, or Antidesma bunius, is native to the tropics of the Indian subcontinent and was naturalized in

and villages. The name bignay or berunai ( as it is known in Malaysia) is thought to have been the inspiration for the

English. This tropical fruit is highly nutritious and has antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic properties.

Bignay fruits are tiny berries that grow in large clusters on an attractive evergreen tree. Because the berries ripen at

different times they usually vary in shades of color from reds and yellows to purples and greens. Bignay fruit is sweet

when fully ripened, although it can very acidic and tart when unripe, similar to cranberries. According to research

peoples taste perception of bignay tends to vary as to where they originate from. Many westerners tend to find bignay

fruit very sour, although people indigenous to Asia and Australasia often describe the taste of ripe bignay as sweet.

This is thought to be a genetic trait. The bignay tree, a member of the spurge botanical family, also bears small

reddish flowers, the scent of which is repulsive to some.

In the 19th century the bignay tree was introduced to Florida from the Philippines. The tree was cultivated for its fruit

which was used to make jam and also wine and brandy. Nowadays the tree is grown mostly as an ornamental. The

bignay tree, in particular its leaves, is very susceptible to infestation, mostly from termites in Southeast Asia, but from

mealy bugs in the USA.

Culinary Uses: Bignay is most often eaten raw or made into juice. It can be used for jam, although it may

be necessary to combine bignay with another fruit that contains a higher pectin content. Otherwise pectin should be

added to thicken the jam. In the Philippines and Indonesia the leaves are used to add an aromatic flavor to rice and

fish dishes. They are often stewed or can be eaten raw, although the leaves of this tree have a slightly leathery

texture. The bignay berries are also used to make sweet and savory sauces. The juice of bignay fruit can be greatly

improved by preparing it the previous day. After juicing and straining the fruit, allow it to stand overnight in a jug, then

carefully poor the jug into another container. Discard the sediment that has settled in the bottom of the jug, which has

a highly acidic taste.

Nutritional Value: People in Southeast Asian countries have valued bignay for it medicinal benefits for many years.

The fruit has been used to treat such ailments as dysentery, diabetes, gastric intestinal problems and indigestion to

name a few. Researchers in Northeastern Thailand identified a number of phytochemicals in bignay. Phytochemicals

are non-nutrients derived from plant sources. The potent antioxidant properties of these compounds cannot be

explained alone by the presence of vitamins, minerals or fiber content. These plant compounds which help protect the

fruit against its environment have numerous health benefits to humans.

The most prevalent of these compounds in bignay fruit are a group of flavonoids in the sub-class known as catechins,

identified as procyanidin B1 and B2. Catechins, also found in red wine and dark chocolate, have antioxidant

properties and are free radical scavengers, meaning they help prevent free radical damage to DNA. This means that

catechins are anti-carcinogenic and anti-aging  They can also help protect us against cardiovascular diseases.

Other Uses: The leaves of the bignay tree can cause a person to sweat and as such are traditionally used to treat

snakebites in Asia. The bark of the bignay tree, which contains a toxic drug, is used to make rope. The tree's hard
