His will named wife MARY, sons John, Benjamin, Joseph, Henry and Stephen. His sons were all under age in 1714. His son STEPHEN died in 1758 in Chesterfield County. Stephen left a will which named his children. They lived in Chesterfield and Powhatan Counties. Stephen's son BENJAMIN was a minister in Powhatan. Stephen's widow, JUDITH, married Mr. Dupuy and Judith Dupuy's will proved in Powhatan County in 1809 named many of her grandchildren. BENJAMIN WATKINS, son of Stephen also left a will in Powhatan County which gives information about his family. Benjamin Watkins, son of Henry who died in 1714, married his cousin JANE WATKINS, daughter of Thomas Watkins of Swift Creek. Benjamin's will was proved in Goochland County in 1753 and Jane's was proved in 1778. "Kegley's Virginia Frontier: "Contemporary Frontier Settlements 1740-1760" "Settlements Along James River and the Staunton Below the Mountains: While the settlements on the branches of James River and the Roanoke above the mountains were being made the adjacent territory below the mountains was being occupied by advancing Virginians. Col. John Bolling's great tract of 20,000 acres was one of the first grants near the mountains. Nicholas Davies came next about him on the James with a large grant that extended to the mountains. Charles Lunch patented two tracts on the north side of Staunton River and one of the south side. Benjamin Clements had a small grant (1742) on the south side of Staunton. James Daniel and John Phelps were large land holders with neighbors in John Harvey, OBADIAH WOODSON, and Matthew Talbot. About this time (1744) Louisa was cut off from Hanover and Albemarle from Goochland. The line between Albemarle and Goochland ran from the point of the fork of James River in the northeast course to Louisa County line, and from the said point of the Fork in a direct course to Brook's Mill, and thence the same course continued to Appomattox River. A special bill requiring the surveyors of the new counties of Albemarle and Augusta to reside in their respective counties

Their eldest son, Charles Edward Clay, was a member of Wyoming’s first territorial legislature and husband to Ogalla Sioux, Lulu Fingernail Woman. Clay was among the Wyoming legislators who granted women the right to vote, hold office, and serve on juries — the first law of its kind in the U.S. Charles Edward Clay was born 18 Nov 1838, Bermuda, Bedford, Va, served on Wyo 1st Legislature, married (1) Lulu Fingernail Woman, born Abt 1855, an Ogallala Sioux Indian, c 1867, in by Indian custom in Wyoming and they were divorced by Indian custom in Wyoming. Lulu Fingernail Woman chose to leave her children with their white father and went to live with her people. She died 14 Jul 1902, about age 58 years on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, S. Dakota. Lulu Fingernail Woman later had several other Indian husbands and had several children, none of whom survived over the age of 21. None had issue and her son, Herman Catches the Enemy died age 21. Her last husband was Roan Bear, a Lower Brule Indian. Lulu was buried in the Indian Cemetery in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, S. D. She was orphaned at very young age; said to have had a sister.
