New Vulcanol Prevents Erosion of Newly Seeded Areas

Vulcanol , a synthetic rubber latex that comes ill a variety of bright colors , is being used in the landscape field as a means of preventing erosion of newly seeded areas. Alco Oil & Chemcal of Philadelphia is producing the ma-terial from elastomeric polymer supplied by F i res tone T i re St R u b b e r Co. T h e product is diluted with water and sprayed over bare soil. It forms a web-like coat that prevents erosion during seed germination. New grass forces its

way through Vulcanol which decomposes after from one to six months and washes into the soil. I t doesn't clog drains or sewers and is said to be cheaper to apply than the ordinary mulch, Vulcanol was used at Firestone C C in getting ready for the P G A Championship.
