[[Henri Temianka Correspondence Martin Kamen Letter #3]] [[Page 1 – Letter]] July 13. Dear Henri – Nothing could have been more dreadful than what I saw in the N.Y. Times of July 10 about Robert. Especially as he seemed so well when I was so fortunate to spend an afternoon with him and Mrs. Maas this spring in New York. As I write this a number of us are listening sorrowfully to some quartet recordings in which his great person is as always, so manifest. It is not difficult to imagine what a blow this must be to all of you. That the world has lost something irreplaceable and wonderful requires no laboring. At times like this, words are useless. Please convey my heart felt regret to Mrs. Maas. I hope that in some way the Paganini QT. will carry on, as I am sure R. would have wished, and that the spirit of your fine group is only momentarily dimmed. I hesitate to write more. Perhaps I will see you in San Francisco next month.

As ever, Martin K.
