Goodwill’s Employment Services Team’s Mission is Jobs!The­mission­of­Goodwill’s­Employment­Services­Department­is­tooffer­individualized­on-going­support­to­job­seekers­and­to­localemployers.­Under­the­direction­of­Supervisor­Matt­Burnheimer,the­department­has­been­involved­in­a­busy­year­thus­far­in2015.­Employment­Specialists­keep­current­on­labor­market­information­and­hiring­trends­to­assist­individuals­working­to­obtain­community­employment.­The­office­has­welcomed­several­new­team­members­in­the­past­few­months.­The­Employment­Services­team­is­completely­focused­on­helpingpeople­to­get­jobs­in­the­community­and,­last­year,­helped­

almost­1,000­individuals­to­reach­that­important­goal.­­Employment­Specialists­provide­assistance­and­training­in­resume­development­and­job-seeking­skills­training.­This­includes­instruction­on­ways­to­conduct­a­job­search,­how­toapproach­employers­regarding­accommodations,­and­how­to­respond­to­various­questionsthroughout­the­employment­process.­Assistance­with­interview­attire­and­transportation­to­interviews­is­also­available.­­As­part­of­an­individualized­employment­search,­Employment­Specialists­offer­support­incontacting­employers­to­request­job­modifications­and­discuss­job­restructuring.­Additionally,Employment­Specialists­offer­retention­services­to­individuals­once­employment­is­obtained.Retention­services­are­intended­to­assist­individuals­with­any­post-employment­needs­suchas­effective­time­management,­employee/employer­communication,­and­securing­additionalcommunity­resources­to­ensure­successful­employment­for­individuals.­­­“For­almost­100­years,­Goodwill­has­been­about­putting­people­to­work­in­our­community,”said­Matt­Burnheimer,­Supervisor.­“We­are­very­focused­on­providing­the­best­services­wecan­to­help­people­achieve­their­own­personal­goal­of­employment,”­added­Burnheimer.­­Individuals­interested­in­Goodwill’s­Job­Placement­and­Development­Services­are­typicallyreferred­by­a­variety­of­agencies­including:­Opportunities­for­Ohioans­with­Disabilities­(formerlyknown­as­the­Ohio­Rehabilitation­Services­Commission),­Bureau­of­Worker’s­Compensation,County­Boards­of­Developmental­Disabilities,­and­Social­Security’s­Ticket­to­Work­Program.­

Ohio Valley Goodwill Receives Recycling“Excellence in Reuse” AwardOhio­Valley­Goodwill’s­donation­team­joined­dozens­of­other­community­organizationsfor­the­10th­Annual­Hamilton­County­Recycling­and­Solid­Waste­District’s­“Excellencein­Reuse”­awards­ceremony­on­November­13,­2014.­Held­at­the­Winton­Woods­Mill­Race­Banquet­Center,­Goodwill­was­honored­to­be­included­in­the­list­of­awardrecipients­which­featured­cities,­schools­and­employers­that­champion­recycling­efforts.

Selected­for­recognition­for­“Excellence­in­Reuse,”­Goodwill­was­singled­out­forits­recycling­efforts­which­divert­more­than­43­million­pounds­of­donated­items­from­arealandfills­annually.­In­addition,­Goodwill­waspraised­for­its­almost­100­year­history­of­reuse

in­taking­donated­items­and­selling­them­to­support­the­organization’s­mission­of­puttingpeople­with­disabilities­and­our­nation’s­veterans­to­work­in­the­community.­More­than3,100­people­were­helped­with­training­and­employment­services­in­the­past­yearthrough­Goodwill’s­efforts.

2nd Annual Goodwill Earth Day ElectronicRecycling Celebration Is Planned!

For­the­second­year­in­a­row,­Ohio­Valley­Goodwill­will­behosting­an­Earth­Day­Electronic­Recycling­Celebration­on­Sunday,­April­26th;­from­11:00­am­until­5:00­pm.­Donations­ofcomputers,­laptops,­keyboards,­monitors­and­other­electronicequipment­will­be­gratefully­accepted­at­ALL­29­Goodwill­Donation­locations!

Working­in­partnership­with­Global­Environmental­Services(GES);­an­e-steward­certified­recycling­vendor;­Goodwill­is­hoping­to­collect­60,000­lbs.­of­donations­in­this­year’s­drive.During­the­2014­Earth­Day­Donation­event,­Goodwill­collectedmore­than­20,000­lbs.­in­just­its­headquarters­location­in­the­Village­of­Woodlawn.

“It’s­important­for­our­generous­donors­to­know­that­Ohio­Valley­Goodwill­accepts­donations­of­computers­and­other­electronic­equipment­everyday­at­all­29­of­our­Donation­Centers,”­said­Jeff­Eastham,­Operations­Manager.­“The­EarthDay­event­is­held­just­to­raise­awareness­about­Goodwill’s­commitment­to­recycling­of­all­types­but­specifically­in­this­case,­computers­and­related­electronic­equipment.”

Last­year,­Ohio­Valley­Goodwill­recycled­more­than43,000,000­lbs.­of­donated­materials,­diverting­them­from­arealandfills.­The­organization­received­the­2014­Hamilton­CountyRecycling­award­for­“Excellence­in­Re-Use”­as­well.­“We­wantour­donors­to­know­that­when­you­choose­to­donate­to­Goodwill,you­are­choosing­to­recycle­responsibly,”­stated­Eastham.

Ohio Valley Goodwill Celebrates New Title Sponsor For 15th Annual Golf Outing

Dale Donovan Auto and Tire Helps theGoodwill Auto Auction

Again­this­year,­Ohio­Valley­Goodwill­and­Dale­Donovan­Auto­&­Tireand­55­KRC­are­partnering­to­present­the­“Extreme­Car­Make-Over”vehicle­to­be­auctioned­at­Goodwill’s­Auto­Auction.­Several­cars­will­becompletely­made­over­with­the­first­one­this­year­being­auctioned­onSaturday,­April­11th.­This­is­the­fourth­time­that­Dale­Donovan­has­fullyreconditioned­a­vehicle­for­auction­at­the­Goodwill­Auto­Auction.­Eachcar­that­is­presented­features­a­complete­make-over­including­bodywork,­tires,­sound­system,­engine­and­internal­work.­“We­are­sopleased­that­Dale­Donovan­and­55KRC­have­stepped­up­and­recondi-tioned­these­vehicles­which­makes­for­a­fully­reconditioned­car­forsomeone­special,”­said­Kim­Masters,­Manager­of­Goodwill’s­Auto­Auction.­

In­the­past,­Dale­and­his­contacts­have­worked­on­two­Honda­Accords­and­donated­over­$3,000.­worth­of­materials­to­get­these­vehicles­into­top­shape­for­the­auto­auction.­The­past­two­Honda­Accords­have­received­reconditioned­engines,­compliments­of­StrickerAuto­Parts,­body­work­by­Frank’s­Carstar,­a­new­timing­system,­newradiator,­complete­flush­of­its­system,­new­timing­system­and­best­

of­all,­a­wonderful­new­sound­system­from­Big­Papa’s­Sound!­“These­­­­­vehicles­make­for­an­awesome­car­for­a­lucky­auction­bidder,”­remarked­Dale.

At­Ohio­Valley­Goodwill’s­annual­HolidayLuncheon­on­December­12,­2014,­the­Goodwill­Service­Guild­presented­Presidentand­CEO,­Joe­Byrum,­with­three­checks­onefor­$20,000­to­be­used­for­programs­andservices­to­help­support­the­organization’smission,­a­check­for­­$5,000­to­be­used­tohelp­support­programs­for­veterans,­and­anadditional­check­for­$1,000.­for­the­CAREProgram.­In­presenting­the­check­to­JoeByrum,­Service­Guild­President,­Sue­Burreson,­commented­that­the­volunteergroup­is­always­pleased­that­it­is­able­to­support­Goodwill­through­its­fundraising­efforts.­“The­Service­Guild­is­delighted­to­be­able­to­support­Ohio­Valley­Goodwill,­our­veterans­and­the­CARE­Program.­Ourfundraising­efforts­during­the­year­areplanned­to­support­Goodwill­and­its­importantprograms­and­services,”­said­Sue­Burreson.­
