It's the month before Christmas and all through the RVHS house the creatures are all stirring just waiting for a house. Team RVHS is extremely grateful and want to share our gratitude. It's only been possible because of YOU! With 2019 fast approaching, we wanted to share the progress we have made helping our community spay and neuter their pets in Josephine County and let everyone know we have set ourselves a new goal to make an even bigger impact in our effort to help prevent unwanted litters. In 2011, Rogue Valley Humane Society made a commitment to reduce the number of healthy pets that were being euthanized in our area for no other reason than that there were not enough homes for them. Amazingly, in eight years, nearly six thousand pets have been altered between our voucher programs for the community's pets and the pets waiting for their homes at Rogue Valley Humane Society. Complicating things last year was the scarcity of available spay and neuter appointments in the area. Because we only put altered animals up for adoption this has meant longer stays at our shelter for pets that are otherwise ready to go to their forever homes. Typically, our voucher program has a six-to-eight week waiting period between when the voucher is issued and the scheduled surgery appointment date. In January, through generous private donations and grant monies, we were able to open our own surgical suite on-site at RVHS and what a godsend that has been! Coupled with the addition to our staff of Veterinarian Dr. Sarah Adams we have increased our surgeries by 30% compared to previous years and that means less time for animals to stay at the shelter and more openings for other displaced dogs and cats. We want to continue the momentum with something equally exciting that could make such a difference to the underserved rural areas of our county. We want to take our ability to spay and neuter on the road in a new mobile surgical unit. This community never lets us down so we know it is only a matter of time before we are able to get out to the animals that need us! You can make a difference in this effort by supporting our spay and neuter programs and helping us achieve our goal of a mobile surgical unit. Please remember we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a no-kill mission that depends solely on funds raised through grants, fund-raisers, and donations from businesses and individuals . . . we do not receive any state or county funding. Please support us in our mission so we can ride this wave and help every dog and cat who needs us! With gratitude, Margaret Varner, Executive Director Helping our Community . . . 4 Paws at a time!
