Race Day Packet Pick-up will also be available starting at 5:30 am on August 18th, @ Transition Area, Chewacla Lake Beach Parking Lot, 124 Shell Toomer Pkwy. Parking: Parking signs will lead you to several available parking lots within the

park. The Beach Pavilion parking lot will be closed until the conclusion of the race. The lot just past the Beach Pavilion lot, to the right, will be open and provides easy access for athletes heading to transition.

Directions: Chewacla State Park is located at 124 Shell Toomer Pkwy. Park info can

be found at http://www.alapark.com/chewacla-state-park Your park entry fee was included in your registration fee.

Your park entry fee for SATURDAY ONLY is included in your registration.

Please remember…

the Alabama State Park system has experienced severe budget cuts over the last 12 months. As a result, gate entry fees are a critical component

of Chewacla’s ability to operate. If multiple family members and/or friends have entered the park with you on Sunday morning, we ask that

you utilize the “Honor Box” located near the park entrance next to the Ranger Station to help support this great venue.

Transition Area: Transition is located in the Beach Pavilion Parking lot, opening at 5:30

am and will close at 6:45. Body marking will take place just before you enter transition. Upon entering transition your bike will be checked for bar ends and to make sure all kickstands have been removed. ***Once transition closes, you will not be allowed back in until you’ve finished your swim. Only athletes will be allowed in the transition area

at all times. This is for the safety of all competitors.*** Timing Chips: Once you have been body marked and placed your bike in transition,

please head to the timing table to pick up your timing chip. Your chip is to be worn on your left ankle and will time each segment of your race. Volunteers will retrieve your timing chip at the completion of your race just after crossing the finish line. If for some reason, you don’t complete the race, please find a race official immediately to inform them that you don’t plan to finish and return your chip to them.

Mandatory Race Meeting: Race Morning - 6:50 am on the Chewacla Lake Beach Race Start: The race will begin at 7:00 am. This race will feature a rolling start.

Each athlete will pass over a timing mat just before entering the water, officially starting their race. Swim caps are mandatory for the safety of each athlete.

Swim: We will ask you to self-seed yourself in the swim line based upon your

swim ability and speed. We suggest that quicker, more experienced swimmer start first while our slower, less experienced swimmer start closer to the back. This will cut down on congestion and contact in the water. The swim course will lead participants 750 meters clockwise around the lake, keeping swim buoys to the athlete’s right. Participants will then run up past the Beach Pavilion to transition. There will be multiple lifeguards, paddleboards and kayaks on the water to assist any swimmers in need.

Bike: As you enter transition, you must put on your helmet prior to touching

your bike. Please do not mount your bike until you have reached the mount/ dismount line. The 10-mile course will head out on the Lakeside connector, continuing onto Falls View Trail, Creek View Trail, Pete’s Sake and CCC. Course signs, tape and ribbons will mark the trails to guide athletes. You may also reference detailed course maps of Chewacla Sate Park at http://www.camp-sorba.org/trails/chewacla-state-park/ Please keep in mind, not all trails listed on this site are part of the XTERRA racecourse.

Run: The 5K run begins on the beginner CAMP trail, which showcases the

park’s campgrounds, and continues through the famous “Kick Six” trail, which was under construction the weekend of Auburn’s famous comeback against the University of Alabama in the 2013 Iron Bowl. The course will be marked well. There will be one water station just over half way through the run where the course crosses back over the road. The aid station will offer water and Gatorade Sports Drink. You may drop any trash at the water station. Any littering along any part of the triathlon course, other than the water station, will penalize your final race time.
