Student Email Accounts All students have a G-mail account that can be accessed through Moodle. This is a great way for students to send work home, work on group projects and keep up to date with assignments from their teachers. Mail can only be sent to cdstudents.org and cdschools.org accounts. These accounts are to be used for school purposes only! Before students can use their accounts, they must agree to the “Google Terms of Service”. The student address is [email protected].

How to access the G-mail account: 1. Log onto

www.cdschools.org/domain/639 2. Click on Moodle which is in the grey

Home Access Center Students can check their grades, see what assignments they are missing, view their schedules, check absences, and more using the Home Access Center (HAC). Parents can also use the HAC to follow their child’s progress. The HAC can be found on the grey toolbar on the Linglestown Middle School website. A student’s username is their email address ([email protected]) and the password must be retrieved through the email system.

To help your student log into HAC do the following:

1. Log onto www.cdschools.org/Domain/639

2. Click on HAC on the grey toolbar 3. Click on “Lost (retrieve) your

username or password? Click here

Accessing Online Math books using a MAC

McGraw-Hill Education Technical Support recommends installing the Shubert PDF plugin when using Safari to access online math books at www.glencoe.com.

1. Go to http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf

2. If your operating system is version 10.6 or higher download and install PDF Browser Plug-in 2.4.2. Follow the installation instructions as they appear on the screen. (NOTE: if your operating system is 10.5.8 or lower install PDF Browser plug-in version 2.3.2)

3. Restart you computer. 4. Open Safari and try accessing the online

student edition. 5. You may be prompted to accept a

license agreement for Schubert at this time. Please check the radial button that denotes educational use only and click ok, and your book should work properly.

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops are not just for elementary schools! Linglestown Middle School is again participating in Box Tops for Education.

Last year our school earned over $500 just by clipping those little box tops and sending them to school. This year, our goal is to raise $600. Here are three easy ways you can help:

The PTO is now on Twitter!

Girls on the Track Team We have a team training this fall to run the Jingle Bell 5k as part of Girls on the Run. We encourage as many teachers, parents, family members and friends as possible to register for the race and run with the girls. Stay tuned for more info.

LMS PTO NEWS | Issue 1 4

At this time I would like to update the LMS Families on the current Scholastic initiative. This project started this year with a resounding response from all of you that completed one of the “WE” surveys. It is important that everyone’s input is considered during this important time.

To date, the numbers are impressive. A total of 653 students at LMS responded to the student survey, 63 staff members completed their survey and district wide approximately 1000 parents. Your input is the most valuable resource toward creating the best education for our current students and those of the future.

The Scholastic Leadership Team at LMS which includes Kiley Peters, Shimana Harris, Kathy Armstrong, Michelle Nelson, Vicki O’Hara, Anthony Sedun, Ben Hernandez and myself have conducted the initial review of the analysis of survey data. As we navigate through this process you are invited to visit the LMS web site for updates.

Mr. Termin

Principal

It’s time once again to start thinking about the Arts contest and the categories you want to enter. The arts areas are Photography, Art, Literature and Music. If you are new to this contest, you can enter any category and as many entries as you desire in each. There isn't a limit. You can have 5 pieces of Art along with 2 or more lyrics for Music. It’s entirely up to you! There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places. A small gift is awarded to those who submit an entry. An official entry form will be available the week of November 1st, located on the table outside in the main lobby. The form will contain general rules and the format for your category. The theme is “Express Yourself" which leaves your imagination wide open! The entries are due to the main office by March14, 2014. After the pieces are judged, they will be displayed in the trophy cabinet in the main lobby, until the winners are announced at the end of year assembly.

Every year we are amazed at the artistic ability and the creativeness that shows in every piece of Art that is submitted. We have an abundant amount of talent and our hope is that you all get involved and allow others to see your masterpiece. If you have questions once you receive your packet, please call or e-mail. Thank you, Bonnie Yingst (Chairperson) Cell: 579-2318 [email protected] Lisa Koup (Chairperson) 571-1965

A Message From Principal Termin

Arts and Education Contest Hospitality Corner A big thank you to all those

parents who either brought in a homemade treat or made a donation to our refreshment table for Back To School night. The table had an assortment of cupcakes, fruit, cookies and candy that was completely devoured by the end of the evening! As always, it’s only possible with your time and generosity. If other families are interested in helping out with this committee, please let the PTO know or you can call or e-mail me at the information listed below. The next function will be the Junior Honor Society Induction at the end of the school year. Thank you, Bonnie Yingst (Chairperson) Cell: 579-2318 [email protected]
