Your work this week will include the following activities: (You do not need to print any resources. All you will need is an exercise book, lined or plain paper to complete tasks.)• Understanding the difference between formal and informal.• Looking at your qualities.• Look at a job application letter.• Choose a job to apply for.• Draft a letter of application.• Check a letter of application and write it up in best.• Design a poster showing pupils how to write a letter of application.

❖ Think about yourself. Look at the words on the left. Which qualities apply to you? Make a list of your qualities.

❖ Now decide which are your top five qualities. Highlight each of them.

Job Application

❖In this session, you are going to write a letter of application. It will be a formal letter using formal language. The letter will be in response to a job advert.

❖It is a chance for you to tell your future employer more about yourself and how you are the best person for the job.

❖Your letter should be completed as well as you can to impress the reader / employer.

Task – Read these Top Tips for writing letters of application.

❖ Address the letter to the person who is recruiting – find out who it is if it’s not on the advert

❖ Do not exceed 5 paragraphs

❖ Refer to your qualities.

❖ Refer to your personal achievements and experience.

❖ Don’t go crazy on using a thesaurus. It can over-complicate things and put a future employer off you.

❖ Use formal language.

❖ Set the letter out correctly.
