Why Now?Shortening Winter Drilling Season in the North
Heliportable Drilling in the 21st Century

Heliportable Drilling in the 21st Century
from Alaska DNR Tundra Travel Modeling Project; updates from L. Byrne, DNR, Natural Resource Specialist

The conventional (high cost) ice road access season has been reduced:
e.g.: the Alaska winter drilling season has been reduced from 200 days to 100 days.
The short winter drilling season means:
an efficient drilling program (1 well per rig per year).
long wells can not complete in one season.
Heliportable drilling provide non-ice access.

Mi26T Operating DataHeliportable Drilling in the 21st Century

Mi26T can lift conventional oilfield equipment (17,000 kg, 37,500 lb loads)
Conventional rigs and equipment (slightly modified) can be Mi26T heliportable.
Drilling performance is not compromised by having to use specialized light equipment.
Emergency equipment or equipment needed to address unforeseen well conditions can be moved to the wellsite rapidly with minimum modifications.
Rigs and equipment can be used conventionally when not in Heli mode.
