High School Juniors & Seniors Start Taking Foothill Classes As a high school junior or senior, you’re eligible to enroll in Foothill classes, and summer is the perfect time to take a college-level course. Foothill has a website— www.foothill.edu/hs—with all of the information that high school students (and their parents) need to know to register for classes at Foothill. You can enroll in Foothill classes after your parent and high school principal complete the required permission form. Read the eligibility instructions and download the form at www.foothill.edu/hs. For more information, call (650) 949-7423. For registration instructions, access www.foothill.edu. Foothill-De Anza Community College District Board of Trustees Joan Barram; Betsy Bechtel; Pearl Cheng; Laura Casas Frier; Bruce Swenson; Stephanie McGee, Foothill Student Trustee; Emily Kinner, De Anza Student Trustee. Nondiscrimination Statement Foothill College does not discriminate against any person in the provision of its educational programs and services, and personnel practices on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, physical disability or mental disability. Coordination of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibiting sex discrimination; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 governing accessibility is the responsibility of Student Affairs & Activities Dean Patricia Hyland, (650) 949-7241. Program Offerings Foothill College offers courses toward a specialized certificate, associate degree, skills upgrade, personal development, and to fulfill general education requirements for transfer to a university. A complete listing of Foothill College program offerings is available online at www.foothill.edu. For information on fee-based, not-for-credit classes and workshops, access communityeducation.fhda.edu/. This publication was funded in part by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. NewStudents:GetPriority Registration This Fall

Take the Introduction to College Class This SummerEnroll in Foothill’s one-unit CNSL 50:

Introduction to College course this summer,

and you’ll get priority registration and the best

selection of classes later this fall. New

students (those who have never attended

Foothill) are required to enroll in the

orientation class, so it’s smart to take it

this summer.

With statewide budget cuts and other

economic pressures, college officials expect

more students at Foothill this summer and

later this fall. Because more students will be

registering for Foothill classes, you’ll need to

act early. This means using summer to take

placement tests, if necessary; meet with a

Foothill counselor after you’ve completed

the admission application; register for your

classes as soon as possible; and enroll in the

CNSL 50 course this summer.

StartSmart:TaketheCNSL 50 Class NowThe CNSL 50 course gives you an orientation

to the programs and services that are

available to you at Foothill College. You’ll

also get an overview of California’s higher

education system, including UC, CSU and

private universities, and explore career

programs, university transfer options and

guaranteed university admission programs.

You’ll also team up with a Foothill counselor

to design your educational plan so that you

take the classes you need to achieve your

college and career goals.

Choose a CNSL 50 class that meets in

person, is self-paced or meets entirely online.

To review course times, access the schedule

at www.foothill.edu. You may be exempt

from CNSL 50 if you have verifiable proof

that you completed an orientation course at

another college, or completed 30 or more

college units.

Follow These Steps to Apply & Register for CNSL 50:1. Apply online at www.foothill.edu/admissions.php.

There is no fee to apply.

2. Take the Foothill College placement tests for chemistry, English,

English as a second language and/or math. To schedule a

testing appointment, access www.foothill.edu/placement/ or

call (650) 949-7230. There is no fee for placement testing.

3. Register online at MyPortal.fhda.edu.

4. Enroll in the CNSL 50: Introduction to College course.

5. Pay fees online, by mail or in person at the Admissions Office.

Once registered, your fees are due. You will be dropped from

classes if payment in full is not submitted.

SaveTime&Money:MeetwithaFoothillCounselorStart your college experience right by meeting with a Foothill

counselor. We want to work with you to ensure that you don’t spend

time or money taking classes you don’t need to graduate or transfer.

Our counselors will work with you to develop your education plan

and help you select the courses that are right for your needs.

To schedule a counseling appointment, call (650) 949-7423 or

access www.foothill.edu/counseling/. For registration instructions,

access www.foothill.edu.

For registrat ion instruct ions, access www.foothi l l .edu . Cal i fornia res idents pay $31 per uni t .

Smart Choice

Foothill First, Then University TransferMany students attend a community college like Foothill College first, and then transfer as juniors to the universities of their choice. At Foothill, you also have access to a variety of student support services, which are designed to help you set and achieve your university- transfer goals. We’re proud that Foothill transfer students continue to have representation at nearly every campus in the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems, as well as numerous private universities throughout the country. In fact, Foothill College was named the best community college in California for the rate of a cohort of our first-time students who have transferred to a variety of colleges and universities, according to the recent Transfer Velocity Report.

Transfer Admission GuaranteesFoothill also offers you transfer admission guarantees (TAGs) to a variety of public and private universities. As admission to UC and CSU campuses becomes more competitive, smart students are using the TAG option as a vital link to transfer. Foothill offers TAGs with several UC and CSU campuses, and private colleges and universities. A special transfer arrangement is also available between the Foothill College Honors Institute and UCLA. A TAG is a written agreement between you, Foothill College and your transfer university. When you complete requirements spelled out in the TAG contract, you’re guaranteed admission to your TAG university. Working together with a Foothill counselor, you can create an education plan that will qualify you to take advantage of a TAG. TAGs have restrictions, so it’s critical that you meet early and often with a Foothill counselor. To schedule an appointment to discuss a TAG, access www.foothill.edu/counseling/. Learn more about TAGs at www.foothill.edu/transfer/.
