What Is HedEx Lite

HedEx Lite, the single-user software edition of HUAWEI Electronic

Documentation Explorer (HedEx), is used to browse, search, print, and manage

Huawei product documentation. In addition, HedEx Lite allows you to create

favorites and remarks, provide feedback, and perform automatic library upgrade.

HedEx Lite is the lightweight single-user software edition of HedEx.


Features

HedEx Lite has the following features:

• Occupies disk space of only 5 MB and small memory space.

• Does not need to be installed (if the software package is compressed, decompress it).

• Contains multiple libraries, allowing users to browse documents of different products and

different versions in a centralized manner.

• Provides powerful search functions, allowing users to quickly find desired information.

• Supports automatic library upgrade, allowing users to obtain the latest Huawei product

documentation in a timely manner.

• Supports automatic software upgrade, allowing users to obtain the latest version of HedEx Lite

in a timely manner.


Feature Description

Library upgrade The scope of libraries that can be upgraded is expanded.

Search Keyword association, spelling check, and synonym prompt functions are supported.

Feedback Online feedback and viewing feedback responses are supported.

Print Printing pages under different nodes is supported.

View The functions of going to the next topic, the previous topic, or a specific topic are supported.

Library management •On the Admin page, you can select multiple libraries at a time for uploading after installing Flash Player ActiveX 9.0 or later.•On the Admin page, you can select multiple libraries or folders by holding down Ctrl and then delete or move them at a time.•The default save path of libraries can be changed.

Glossary HedEx Lite

A tool used to browse, search, and upgrade Huawei product documentation. HedEx is pronounced as

[`hediks] and is the acronym of Huawei Electronic Documentation Explorer. HedEx Lite is the single-

user edition of HedEx and uses small disk space and memory space. Product documentation

Documents delivered to customers along with Huawei products. Product documentation includes

solution description, system description, product description, installation manuals, and reference

manuals. Product documentation provides guidance for understanding, operating, and maintaining

Huawei products. hdx file

The specific format of Huawei electronic documents. The file name extension is .hdx. An .hdx file can

be opened only in HedEx Lite. library

An .hdx file. basic library

An independent library that can be directly uploaded to HedEx Lite. extend library

A library used as a supplement to a basic library. upgrade boot file

The upgrade boot file is specific for upgrading HedEx Lite libraries and is in .hdxi format. It contains

information about the libraries to be uploaded.

Obtaining HedEx Lite and Libraries From the CD-ROM shipped with a device:

You can obtain the documentation CD-ROM from the accessories shipped with

a device. HedEx Lite and libraries are available in the CD-ROM. Using other methods:

Use the Online Query function of HedEx Lite. Log in to http://support.huawei.com and download HedEx Lite on the

homepage. Then click the link as shown in the following figure for details about

how to obtain libraries at http://support.huawei.com.

If the CPU of 3.0 GHz and memory of 1.5 GB are configured, HedEx Lite can support libraries with the maximum size of 10 GB.


Starting HedEx Lite If you have saved HedEx Lite on your computer, go to its save path and double-click the

HedExLite. exe file.

If you are running the documentation CD-ROM, perform any of the following operations:

In the window as shown in the following figure, click Run to start HedEx Lite. Copy libraries from the

CD-ROM to the same local path as HedEx Lite or copy both libraries and HedEx Lite to your

computer. Copy HedEx Lite to your computer, go to its save path, and then double-click the

HedExLite. exe file.

click Run to start HedEx Lite.

Viewing and Uploading Libraries

Click the link to learn about how to upload libraries.

If you have obtained libraries, click Library Management on the Admin page and upload

libraries.

If HedEx Lite does not contain the library that you require, you can access

http://support.huawei.com to obtain the library and then upload it to HedEx Lite.

If you have obtained HedEx Lite and libraries, double-click a library. Then HedEx Lite starts

automatically for you to view the library. This library, however, is not uploaded to HedEx Lite.

Therefore, this library is not displayed on the Home page after you restart HedEx Lite.

Open a library. You can go to the previous or next topic and view the sequence number (for example, 306) of the current topic in the library.

Right-click the HedEx Lite icon on the taskbar and choose Settings from the

shortcut menu. In the displayed dialog box, you can upload libraries in batches and

view the information about HedEx Lite.

You can add a maximum of 10 library paths.

Change the default path for storing libraries. You can

double-click the HedEx icon to open the HedEx Web user interface (UI).

View the HedEx Lite version information.


3. Click a library to view its content.

1. After HedEx Lite starts, its homepage is displayed.

Automatic Library Upgrade – Upgrade Methods

Note:1. The follow requirements must be met:

You can access http://support.huawei.com. If your account for logging in to http://support.huawei.com is changed, you need

to update the account information on the Upgrade Parameter page.

2. If your password is changed, go to Upgrade Settings under Admin to modify related parameters.

Automatic Library Upgrade – Automatic Detection

If you have saved HedEx Lite and libraries on your computer, HedEx Lite automatically checks for library

upgrade: If only libraries are upgraded, HedEx Lite prompts customers and Huawei engineers to upgrade local

libraries.

If a Huawei product is upgraded, a Huawei engineer fills in a software application form for pushing the

latest libraries to a specific customer who uses HedEx Lite. Then HedEx Lite prompts the customer for

library upgrade, helping obtain the latest libraries in time.

HedEx Lite automatically detects for

new libraries available on

http://support.huawei.com based on

the value of Frequency that you

specify. If there are libraries to be

upgraded, a message is displayed in

the taskbar tray.

HedEx Lite automatically detects for new libraries available on

http://support.huawei.com at a two-day interval. If there are

libraries to be updated, a message is displayed in the taskbar

tray. If you click on the message, the message will not be

displayed the next two days. If you do not click on the message,

the message will be displayed once you start HedEx Lite again.

HedEx Lite will not detect for new libraries the next two days

irrespective of whether you click on the message.


Automatic Library Upgrade – Manual Detection

On the Upgrade Library tab page, click Upgrade libraries to check whether library upgrade is needed.

If you have saved HedEx Lite and libraries on your computer, HedEx Lite

automatically checks for library upgrade:

Assume that the libraries of Quidway S9300 V100R002C00_05 exist in HedEx Lite. If new

versions of libraries are released on http://support.huawei.com, the list of upgrade tasks is

displayed below after you click Upgrade libraries.


Automatic Library Upgrade – Online Query

The Obtaining the HedEx Lite Software and Libraries page is displayed.

The Viewing and uploading Libraries page is displayed.

Enter a correct product name. When you enter the first letter of a product name, HedEx Lite automatically displays all related product names for your reference.

Note: Huawei engineers and customers have different rights, so the libraries that they can browse in HedEx Lite are also different. Generally, the libraries that you obtain after clicking Online query in HedEx Lite are the same as those that you obtain from http://support.huawei.com.


Automatic Library Upgrade – Rollback

Rollback succeeded.

After a library is upgraded, if you find that the target version is not the required one, go

to Upgrade Library > Upgrade Log and click the left arrow icon as shown in the

following figure to roll back to the source version.


Creating Remarks

When viewing a library, you can create a remark as you please.

1. Click Add Remark to open the Remarks page.

The icon is displayed if there are remarks.

Click the icon to locate the row where a remark is created.


Managing Remarks

3. Click Export to export remarks to an Excel file.

2. Click Import to import the remarks that are exported from HedEx Lite.

4. Modify or delete a remark.

1. Query remarks by author, title, date, or content.

Tip: The import and export functions are used for data backup, data migration, and batch feedback.

5. Click a remark to locate the specific library content.


Providing Feedback

You can provide feedback on each topic in an .hdx file.

Click View Your Feedback to view replies.

When you click Email Feedback, your local email client will be invoked automatically. You can send your feedback to the default email address [email protected].

Enter your feedback and click Submit. You can go to My Support to view replies.

You can provide feedback if you have any

doubts, suggestions, or requirements.


Creating FavoritesWhen viewing a library, you can create a favorite for the page that you frequently

view.

On the Favorites page, you can view all favorites.

If a favorite title is unavailable, the related library does not exist and therefore cannot

be opened.

Click a favorite to view specific document content.

Click Add Favorite to open the Favorites page.


Managing Libraries

Upload a library. To upload multiple libraries at a time, click Add More and then click Browse to add more libraries.

On the Library Management page, you can:

Create folders to display libraries in a tiered structure.

Choose whether to display a library on the Home page.


Printing Documentation by Page or Node

You can print a single page or print pages by node (including all its sub nodes).

Tip: Only HTML pages can be printed by node.

Automatic HedEx Lite Upgrade HedEx Lite automatically accesses http://support.huawei.com to check for its later

version every seven days after its first start. If a later version is detected, a

message is displayed prompting you to download and upgrade HedEx Lite.

Alternatively, you can check for a later version of HedEx Lite by using the HedEx

Lite icon on the taskbar.

Note:

• To upgrade HedEx Lite, you must have an equipment customer account or a Huawei

engineer account at http://support.huawei.com.

• During HedEx Lite upgrade, all data (including libraries, remarks, and favorites) of the earlier

HedEx Lite moves to HedEx Lite of the latest version.

Problem Handling (1) When customers encounter any problem in the use of HedEx Lite, the customers

can contact Huawei front-line engineers for technical support or call the Huawei Customer Service Hotline or package the log folder under the HedEx Lite path and send it to [email protected].

(2) When customers or Huawei front-line engineers encounter any problem in the use of HedEx Lite, they can submit the problems in the iCare based on the product.

(3) When the second-line cannot solve a HedEx Lite problem, the problem is submitted to the third-line, that is, the HedEx Lite coordinator of the corresponding product line for solution, or you can also contact the coordinator of the Information Tools Department directly for help.

Note: HedEx Lite is an attribute of documentation, pay attention to the following points when

submitting problems in the iCare: Select Document in Root Cause, and enter HedEx Lite information in Work Note. When the HedEx Lite applies to multiple products, select the product that the

submitter is responsible for.
