HTHS Engineering Academy students competed today in the Electrathon race at Barber's Motorsports speedway. HTHS had two teams - a girls' team (Emma Slay, Emma Burford, Kaitlin Silverwood, and Amanda Green) and a boys' team (A.J. Ward, Blake Hoggan, Cody

Wilcox, Bin Tran, and Taylor Herrin) competing in the race. The students raced for one hour in the morning and then again for another hour in the afternoon. There were 19 teams

competing in the race today - including a team from UAB and a professional driver. The girls' team placed first, and the boys' team placed second. We are very proud of our students and their hard work in preparing for today's race. Barber's is a very demanding race track for the

electric cars - it is a 2.5 mile racing circuit with 17 turns and elevation changes of more than 80 feet. GREAT JOB!

Electrathon Winners! Way to go students!

3rd ANNUAL CAHABA RIVER CRAWFISH & SHRIMP BOIL

MORE MUSIC, MORE FOOD, MORE FIREWORKS AT 2015 CAHABA RIVER CRAWFISH & SHRIMP

BOIL TO BENEFIT TRUSSVILLE CITY SCHOOLS FOUNDATION AND HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE ATHLETIC

FOUNDATION

Trussville, Alabama. A record crowd at last year’s Cahaba River Crawfish & Shrimp Boil encour-

aged event organizers to expand the springtime outdoor music and food festival for 2015. Scheduled

for April 18 from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., the event will take place at Trussville Springs, just north-

east of downtown Trussville on Highway 11. Admission to the festival is free.

“Our community came out in great support of this event last year, so we decided we had to make

it bigger and better,” said festival chairman Wendell Gibson. “Trussville Springs provides us with a

beautiful setting on the banks of the Cahaba River. Add to that an outstanding lineup of live musical

entertainment, free activities for the kids, delicious food and a huge fireworks display to cap off the

evening, and you've got all the elements for a fun and relaxing time with family and friends.”

Fresh Louisiana crawfish and Gulf shrimp plates prepared by Parish Seafood and Oyster House, as

well as plenty of cold beverages will be available for purchase. Hamburgers, hotdogs, barbecue

sandwiches and barbecue nachos round out the menu.

Kids’ activities will include backyard games like cornhole and face painting. Musical entertain-

ment will feature live bands throughout the afternoon and evening, headlined by the ever-popular Il

Da Maxx.

The Cahaba River Crawfish & Shrimp Boil is a fundraising event equally benefiting Trussville City

Schools Foundation and Hewitt-Trussville Athletic Foundation. Last year’s event raised $28,000.

For more information, visit www.cahabariverboil.com.

The Trussville City Schools Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization formed to develop sound financial support for Trussville City Schools, both for present and future needs. Its mission is to mobilize community support for the Trussville City Schools and to secure resources from individuals, corporations, and foundations for the support of the school system that will stimulate each student to reach his or her fullest potential. Volunteers needed for City Fest – May 2, 2015

Sign up for a 2 hour time slot to supervise kids area activities and rides and receive a FREE City Fest T-shirt and FREE admission to the festival. Contact the Chamber of Commerce at 205-655-7535 or

[email protected] for additional information.

Chamber Announces 35th Annual Trussville City Fest

For immediate release –

TRUSSVILLE, AL - The 35th Annual Trussville City Fest will be held on Saturday, May 2. This year’s festival, which will be a one-day

event, will run from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and will be capped off by fireworks. The festival is produced by the Trussville Area Cham-

ber of Commerce, and its presenting sponsor is Schaeffer Eye Center.

Formerly known as Dog Daze, the festival’s name was changed in 2013 to Trussville City Fest, a name its producers feel is more

representative of what the festival is now. The festival was originally held in August during the ‘dog days of summer’ and moved

to spring in 2009 in search of cooler temperatures.

This year’s headliner is American Idol Season 8 winner Kris Allen. Kris will perform at 8 p.m. on the CenturyLink Stage.

Other performers at the festival include Sweet Tea, an up and coming country band whose members hail from various parts of the

state; The Brooke Daniel Band, also from Alabama; local favorite “Reunion” who specializes in classic rock; “Commonwealth,” a

new local band of high school students from the Trussville area; and more.

In addition to great musical entertainment, there will be FREE kids’ activities and plenty of food available for purchase. Young and old alike will enjoy “hamster balls:” giant clear balls you can jump into and roll around in a pool without getting wet, which is back

by popular demand from last year’s festival. Winners of Trussville’s Beautification Awards will be also announced.

This year’s festival will again feature a classic car show from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. in the parking lot in front of the chamber office. The entry fee for your classic car is $10 and goes toward what classic car show participants will know as a “money tree.”

The Coca-Cola Food Court will again be located in the concrete area just a short walk from the food vendors. Other major spon-

sors to date for this year’s festival include Amerex Corporation (festival entrances), and the City of Trussville.

Admission to the festival is only $5 per person. Children 2 and under are admitted free. Families will love that once inside the festival, all kids’ activities are FREE! And be sure to pick up one of the official City Fest t-shirts for only $6!

For more information on the festival or to volunteer, please visit www.trussvillecityfest.com, call the chamber office at (205) 655-

7535, ‘like’ us on Facebook, or follow us on Instagram and Twitter.
