ENTERING GEOMETRIC DATA IN HECRAS SAROJ KARKI (MSc in Water Resources Engineering,IOE, Pulchowk Campus)
A dialog Box will appear asking you to enter the river Station. (You need to enter a chain age, eg. 10 or
10.6, etc. for your cross section station starting from the most U/S cross section and decreasing
downstream).
Highlight (or select) cross section data entry table (cross sections coordinates) by left click and drag on the
station and elevation.

After you finish adding the cross section data you need to enter the Manning’s n value.
You can either give the Manning’s n value individually for each cross section or you can give globally
to all cross sections at once.
The procedure is mentioned below.
To enter individually for each cross section, Enter the value here. For Left overbank (LOB), Channel,
Right overbank (ROB).
To Enter the Manning’s n value globally i.e. applied to every cross sections at once.
Go to HECRAS main menu,
Click enter/edit Geometric data .

A new dialog box will appear prompting you to give the manning’s n value for LOB,
Enter the value.
Let’s give 0.04.Ok
The column n#1 will have values equal to 0.04 as we have assigned.
Similarly we can do for Channel and ROB as well.
After assigning the values for the LOB, Channel and ROB,Click Ok.
So in this way we can complete the cross section data input in the HECRAS.
