NEWS FROM MRS. KACMARIK’S 1ST GRADE CLASS

Our first grade class just finished our Pilgrim and Native American Unit. We learned about the way each group lived, what they wore and ate. We made Venn Diagrams showing their similarities and differences. Our class split into two groups – each group had to re-create a typical outfit. The Native Americans created vests with symbols, headbands with feathers and colored necklaces. The Pilgrims created hats and coverings for their necks. We finished our unit by celebrating with a big Thanksgiving feast!

NEWS FROM MRS. KAEB’S KINDERGARTEN CLASS Whew – talk about “time flies!” How fast the year has gone! The Kindergarteners have been very busy with all sorts of fun activities. In Phonics, we’ve been learning about the letters Ss, Ff, and Rr. We learn a new letter each week and on Friday we have a “Friday Fun Day” with activities that correlate to each letter. For Ss week we discussed super heroes and made our own super hero capes. We discussed fish during Ff week and did “fishy math” using goldfish crackers. This week is Rr week, and we’re doing many reindeer activities. We are learning to read by practicing our sight words, word lists, and Phonics readers. In Math, we are learning about numbers 1-50, comparing numbers 0-10 and finding which number is greater/less. Our most recent Reading story is all about pandas and how they grow and change. We sure have been working hard! I’m so very proud of everything the Kindergartners have accomplished in such a short time! They’re learning more and getting smarter every day! Thank you to all parents and families for your continued support. Have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy 2016!

MRS. HERNANDEZ’S 3RD GRADE NEWS The students, parents, and teachers had a fantastic time on our field trip to the Field Museum. We have been studying Native Americans in Social Studies and have read several Native American stories, made our own buffalo skins, wrote our own Indian stories, and made our own totem poles. We had a great time walking around the museum and looking at the other exhibits. We would like to thank all of our parent chaperones and bus drivers for making our day such a success. We also had an exciting time with our Indian Day last week with games, crafts, stories, music, and food.

BUS DRIVERS NEEDED Have you considered being a bus driver? Earn extra money and be on the same schedule as your children. Earn $15.50 per hour up to 3 hours per day. Drive for MSD of Boone Township. We are willing to train.
