Basket in Hand Collection will be dedicated to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat’s mission is to share the

love of God by bringing people together to build homes, communities & hope.

Their newest project is on Rialto Avenue in Clovis, where 10 homes will soon be built. These homes will be

located in the Clovis Unified School District, where the homeowner’s children will track to Buchanan High, a

wonderful opportunity for these families. ”We don’t give homes to these families. We build homes with families. So, in a sense, we’re not giving handouts, but hand ups,” said Matthew Grundy Executive Director

of Habitat for Humanity of Fresno County. Thank you for your continued generosity & prayers for

those in need in our valley, including those without access to safe & affordable housing.

Humility is often de ined as “knowing who God is and who you are.” Once in prayer, Saint Catherine of Siena heard God say, “Remember that I AM, and you are not.” Being humble is letting God be God, and us be us. Easier said than done. It’s easy to forget that we are creatures and that we are made from the clay of the earth. We get the word humility from, “humus,” Latin for dirt. So, to be humble means to be grounded. At the same time, there is such a thing as “false humility,” which is to treat, or pretend to treat ourselves, like dirt. We’re not dirt. We’re dirt with the Divine Life of God’s Holy Spirit breathed into us. In the Gospel, Jesus warns about picking a seat too high for ourselves. If we do, we may get knocked down a peg; we may be humiliated and asked to take a lesser seat. Humility also involves helping those who are seated below. We have the duty, in humility, to serve the poor. Humility is

bowing to God above and a becoming a servant to humanity below. FromourHolyFather…

Behind and before every vocation to the priesthood or to the consecrated life there is always the strong and intense prayer of someone: a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother, a father, a community…. This is why Jesus said: “Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest,” that is, God the Father, “to send out laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38). Vocations are born in prayer and from prayer; and only through prayer can they persevere and bear fruit. I am pleased to stress this today, which is the “World Day of Prayer for Vocations.” Let us invoke the intercession of Mary who is the Woman of the “yes”. Mary said “yes” throughout her life! She learned to recognize Jesus’ voice from the time when she carried him in her womb. May Mary, our Mother, help us to know Jesus’ voice better and better and to follow it, so as to walk on the path of life! LifeTeen/EdgeFallRetreatFALLINTOTHEARMSOFGOD
