Bilstein is one of the world’s leading producers of high quality cold rolled steel. GSE provided full engineering services for Bilstein’s first mill constructed outside of Germany. The facility is constructed on a 61 acre greenfield site in Bowling Green, KY strategically located to serve the region’s growing automotive industry. Detailed design for Phase 1 of the facility included a cold rolling mill, eight batch annealing bases, a high speed slitting line with a 52 foot deep looping pit. Site and utility design included grading, paving, storm drainage, fire water, domestic water, sewage, electrical, and communication lines.

GSE partnered with The Austin Company for the main design package awarded for Airbus’ first assembly line in the Western Hemisphere. The design package included the Final Assembly Line building (FAL), the Service Building and the Logistics Center. The FAL is comprised of 209,000 square feet of manufacturing and 27,000 square feet of office space. The Service Building is a multi-story 125,000 square foot office building while the Logistics Center is a 59,000 square foot warehouse and office building. GSE’s specific scope included all foundations, industrial systems, medium voltage distribution and fire protection system design.

SSAB North America (formerly IPSCO) chose GSE to provide all design services for the new heat-treat and quench line 6 (QL6). The new facility has the capacity to produce 300,000 tons of hardened steel per year. Scope included all utilities, building and equipment foundations, and the 1 million gallon quench system.

Additional projects for SSAB include the expansion of quench line 5 (QL5), addition of a vacuum tank degasser (VTD) to their existing melt shop, water treatment facility design, along with various maintenance projects throughout the site.

GSE provided all structural design for the 68,000 square foot storage and shipping facility constructed as part of Novo Nordisk’s $1.8 Billion expansion to be completed in 2019. Originally designed by Fluor, the project was well overbudget, GSE teamed with Brasfield & Gorrie to provide an extensive VE effort on a fast-tracked delivery which successfully brought the project within budget and schedule.

Oceaneering is a global oilfield provider of engineered services and products primarily servicing the offshore oil and gas industry, with a focus on deepwater applications. GSE provided planning, design, and construction supervision for a new undersea pipe umbilical facility built on a brownfield site. Scope of the project included the renovation of a 165,000 square foot manufacturing space with two 50,000 square foot circular buildings designed to spool pipe umbilicals. Detailed design included the manufacturing facility, spooling building, guard building, and gate. Site and utility design included grading, paving, storm drainage, fire water, domestic water, sewage, electrical, and communication lines.

GSE provide all front-end design services for the planned expansion to Lenzing Fiber’s existing facility in Axis, AL expected to more than double current production levels to a total capacity of 140,000 tons annually.

The GSE specific scope includes all foundations, steel framing, industrial systems, medium voltage distribution, process piping and fire protection system design.

GSE partnered with Han Padron and Associates (HPA) to design the 100-acre container port on a prepared site. The GSE portion of project scope included all site utilities (water, sewer, storm water electrical and fire water), design of administration and maintenance buildings, and assorted site structures, site lighting, fire protection design and construction assistance. GSE oversaw all communication with local governmental agencies and utilities.

GSE teamed with Kajima Building and Design Group to provide all civil, structural, fire protection, and life safety design for DaikyoNishikawa’s new 295,000 sf manufacturing facility in Huntsville, AL.

The facility will supply plastic automotive parts to support the new Mazda Toyota assembly plant under construction in north Alabama.

GSE designed modifications to Building 103, a 45,000 square foot facility in Area 47/48, to allow the transition from External Tank manufacturing to Space Launch Systems (SLS) manufacturing. Area 47/48 will be used for the final integration of SLS core stage subassemblies which will include liquid hydrogen tanks, engine sections, intertanks, liquid oxygen tanks, and forward skirts. In addition to final integration of the above listed subassemblies, Building 103 will also house the installation of engines, feedline and press lines, systems tunnels with applicable wiring, and final testing and systems checkout. GSE provided structural, mechanical, electrical and fire protection design services for the renovated facility.

GSE partnered with design-build contractor, GA West, for Technip USA’s new 75,000 square foot spoolbase facility. The facility fabricates and welds mile-long lengths of pipe in preparation of the pipe being spooled onto large ships and laid offshore for the oil and gas industry. GSE’s scope of work included Life Safety, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, and Civil engineering design for the new pipe storage, assembly, spooling and loading facilities.
