Administrator's Accents February is National Heart Month in the United States. National Heart Month is a way to promote awareness about keeping your heart strong and a time to encourage healthy eating and living habits. Even the smallest activities can encourage all of us to make healthy changes in our lives. Please join us on National Wear Red Day, Friday, Feb. 7, by wearing red to show we support a healthy heart! As we celebrate Valentine's Day this year, let it remind us to keep our hearts open to those we love and be thankful for all we have. Take the time to tell those special people in our lives that we love them. Valentine's Day is always a special day and this year will be no exception. Please join us from morning until evening, as we celebrate the day with our Heathwood Family. By now you have most likely met our new Dining Services Manager, Darlene Bateman, who started in her new position in mid-January. Darlene has extensive experience and is anxious to help Heathwood provide you with the best dining experience. Please welcome her and make sure you stop in to say hi. Heathwood Emphasis Here at Heathwood, we encourage and promote staff to go above and beyond what is expected in their jobs. Recognition, when done strategically and consistently, has been proven to be an important driver for creating a work environment where employees become more engaged. As an organization, we have developed the Heathwood Way, a “Facebook- like” platform which allows staff to recognize their co-workers on a public platform for the good things they do every day. Please feel free to ask any staff member about our Heathwood Way initiative. We want to keep our platform fresh and entice staff to use it more! Personality Profile Dr. Anthony (Tony) Labrum was born in Bletchley, England. He served in the Royal Air Force after WWII. Tony studied at Cambridge and after residencies and further education, became a doctor of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Tony moved to Boston in the U.S., 30 years ago, then St. Louis and finally Rochester, where he spent endless hours doing medical research in the field of PMS and other women's health issues, teaching and doctoring at Strong Memorial Hospital. Tony met his wife, Cornelia, when she approached him to do a lecture on his advances in the study of PMS for a group of women. He said it was love at first sight. Tony and Cornelia enjoyed travel and often had family reunions in Cape Cod. Tony has one son and two stepsons who he is very close to. He is a serious stamp collector and would like to write his autobiography. When asked what advice Tony has for the younger generation, his first response was, "Encourage yourself to ask why and allow your curiosity to take over." Welcome to our Heathwood family, Tony. We had 10 residents at our last meeting. One concern was the crowded Dining Room, especially around wheelchairs. We talked about the importance of removing walkers to help with this.
