This beautiful holiday season is the perfect time to express how much we appreciate YOU as you continue to help us make an impact for life here in York! We are busy with the many activities of serving Christ as we love our clients. Last year, as you have partnered with us, we have: Helped over 270 clients, which represents close to 1,000 appointments Administered 260 Pregnancy Tests and Ultrasounds Conducted over 50 interactive “sexual integrity” sessions with over 170 teens Met one-on-one with over 250 teens, resulting in

19 teens choosing to follow Christ Distributed 304 dozen diapers (we’ve done the math – that’s 3,648 individual diapers!) Walked with numerous women through their healing process as they participated in our post-abortion recovery sessions. We continue to ponder how to best meet the needs of a rapidly changing culture while staying true to our mission, and we’ve begun to explore the possibility of offering services for the testing and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s). The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has reported that close to 2.3 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis were diagnosed in the United States in 2017, which surpassed the previous record set in 2016. It is the fourth consecutive year of sharp increases in these STI’s. Of particular concern to pregnancy centers is that nearly half of the chlamydia cases diagnosed in 2017 were among 15 to 24 year old women, the age group we see most often here at HLS. Impacting our clients with the message of reducing sexual risk behaviors when we test and treat for STI’s is a great way to reach more in our community, hopefully before they’re experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Stay tuned for more updates as we move ahead.Your generous participation in our clients’ lives is part of the story that God is writing for each of these precious individuals! Thank you for your prayers, for sacrificially giving of your time by volunteering, and for your generous financial giving. It means the world to the families we serve!May you experience God’s abundant peace and blessings throughout the holiday season and into 2019!

Sophia found herself in a dilemma. She was all set to go to dentistry school — but now she’s pregnant. Her first thought was to have an abortion. She said the father of the baby was scared and not sure how he felt about it all. It wasn’t planned and it certainly didn’t seem like the right choice for their lives at the time. Sophia’s mother did not want her to have an abortion, but said she would be supportive either way. Her Mom encouraged her to get the ultrasound and then decide what to do. Sophia had the ultrasound. The heartbeat of her 6-1/2 week old baby was about all she

could see, but it was enough for her to make a connection. She decided to parent. With the help of her mother and the father of the baby, Sophia will work out her plans for school AND learn to be a new Mom. Our hope is that we can walk through her pregnancy with her and see this little one grow. Sophia is blessed to have the support of her Mom and the baby’s father. So many of our Moms do not have this. HLS is always willing to step in and be that support. Please pray for Sophia and the little life she carries inside as they start a new journey together. Praising God for His abundant gift of life!

Volunteers are a key resource that sustains this ministry daily. We have about 7 paid positions and only 3 of those are full time. We have about 30-40 regular volunteers that are on board to help at any given time. These volunteers provide services such as Client Advocates, Administrative Assistance, Event Activities, Boutique Projects & Shopping Assistance, Fundraising Activities, as well as other tasks as needed. We also have vital “behind the scenes” volunteers who help us out with special projects like snow removal in the winter and care of our grounds in the other seasons, maintenance tasks, or those acting as church liaisons, prayer partners, etc. Many church and community groups will hold baby showers, collect holiday gifts, and plan other events within their communities. One of the biggest blessings within this ministry is the variety of individuals God chooses to partner with for life through volunteerism. Thank you to those who are part of this work! If you would like to consider being a part of this ministry, please call us today to set up a tour to hear about ways to plug in (717-854-7615). We can’t wait to meet with you!
