We need to come together and act now to insure that every Allen County mother who desires to do so can give her child the best possible start in life by breastfeeding. In the interest of exchanging ideas and developing strategies to improve breastfeeding support in our community, we’re forming a coalition to aim to bring together healthcare providers, public health officials, lactation consultants, businessmen, school officials, educators, child care center directors, and civic organizers policy makers, to discuss what is working and what needs to be improved. We believe that together, we can develop a plan to address the specific needs of breastfeeding families in our community. Nancy Bonifas, Tobacco Free Living Team Leader, will be speaking at the Lima City Council

Meeting on Monday, Sept 9th at 7 pm in council chambers. She will be speaking on the

stories. This will be balanced information on the importance of reducing second hand smoke.

Everyone is very welcome to come so that we can have as much support there as possible.

In recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month (November), SCTG will be holding a Tobacco

Free Seminar on the benefits of smoke free housing policies. The Tobacco Free Coalition is currently in the progress of

planning and will send updates on the status of the event. SCTG has awarded a contract to University of Massachusetts

Medical School Center for Tobacco Treatment Research & Training to certify tobacco treatment specialists in Allen

County. The training will occur in January 2014 and we are in the process of identifying eligible providers to offer this

service in their agency. Please contact Nancy Bonifas, Tobacco Free Living Team Leader, for more information.
