Here at Healthy Beginnings Magazine, March is

the month of the Mind. The physical, emotional and mental

aspects of “the mind.” This month, we’ll take a look at what

it means to be mindful. This topic alone covers a broad

spectrum of studies and perspectives, however, we’re keying

in on the present.

It’s the simple act of “being present” in your actions. It’s taking

a look at how your actions affect others, in a thoughtful way.

It’s also becoming grounded in the environment around

you. Or, at least trying to open yourself to take in your daily

surroundings, at any given moment.

Becoming mindful can be a hard-won process, but once

accomplished, it can truly change your relationships, and even

the way you look at life. For, within each experience, there is

something to be learned. Moreover, a person who is mindful

begets that in which he is seeking: presence.

What does being mindful, or the word mindfulness, mean to you? In an interview with Jon

Kabat-Zinn, he defined mindfulness meditation as non-striving. Non-striving is in direct conflict with how many of us have been taught to live, where almost everything we do has a purpose, either to get something or somewhere. For many of us, to shut off or even slow down is a difficult challenge, especially in a world that wants us to stay connected 24/7. Yet, to recharge and renew our spirit and soul, it is important to take time each day to learn to not strive.

Perhaps that is why meditation is not easy for many people, because unlike every other aspect of our life we want to control, meditation should not be controlled it should just be what it is. If that means bringing our thoughts back to our breath every second, then that is what it is. Over time, one learns to accept and enjoy the peace in getting to know ourselves intimately, and enjoying that we don’t have to be in control.

March is a good month to give back to your inner self with meditation, preparing the quiet within to ground our soul and our spirit with Mother Nature and our Creator God. Life is to be enjoyed, and to love and respect each other for our differences as well as our similarities. Our creator gave us free will out of love and respect for each one of us. Controlling others, and trying to control outcomes for ourselves, only stifles freedom and instead imprisons our spirit.

It is our pleasure to bring you each month informative and educational articles on natural and alternative approaches in healing your physical and spiritual bodies. Take back your inner spirit and enjoy your journey. Shalom.

Dawn Gowery

Have you or someone you know been told that the symptoms they’re having is all in their head? Well, the answer to that question is “YES,” because if you didn’t have a brain, you wouldn’t feel anything. God gave us a brain. The brain is the most important part of our anatomy. It tells all the other parts what to do, and when to do it. The brain works as part of a network that includes the spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Together, they transmit and control any information sent to and from the other areas of the body. The brain is the “master controller” of our health, mental and emotional stability, physical vitality, and overall well being are all directly affected by proper brain function.

Our brain function can also be affected by multiple things, such as emotional stresses, physical trauma and chemical imbalances. One of the functions is to feel symptoms to let us know that something is not working right, like a “WARNING

LIGHT.” If we choose to ignore the warning signals, or cover them up with medication, the body will either try to adapt to the problem, creating new problems, or it will make the problem worse so you will take a closer look at it. In some cases, the body can heal itself with time, under the right circumstance. What an amazing system we are!

If you have a symptom that needs medical attention, then you should seek medical attention. Many times, people will say that they have had all the tests ran and they were all normal, but they still experienced symptoms. This is probably due to their problem not being diagnostically testable in the Western Style of medicine. Take for example a “trapped emotion.” You can have a trapped emotion affecting the area of your body where you are suffering with symptoms, or symptoms that never seem to get better.

IT’S ALL IN YOUR HEAD!

Dr. Bradley Nelson states that all diseases are due to six types of imbalances, 1) Pathogens (parasites, molds, etc.), 2) Structural (subluxation’s, deformities, and abnormal gait, etc.), 3) Nutritional (lack of or too much vitamins or minerals), 4) Energies in our body are over loaded or lacking to an organ or tissue, 5) Toxicity in our body will cause imbalance to a specific area or to the whole system which can cause other systems to have problems, and 6) Circuitry. This is where the signals are being affected (increased signals due to irritation or decreased due to a blockage), from getting information from the body to the brain and back to the body normally. I.e. pinched nerves. This is all part of the body code system.

When the right doctor is found for your symptoms, they will help assist you to remove the blockage, problem, or help balance you out nutritionally where needed. It is highly likely to find a trapped emotion associated with most symptoms we have. When you have a trapped emotion, or bad thought, it will act like a magnet and keep drawing more bad energy to that spot, which over time, creates a symptom.

May we all try to think more positively this year, think healthier, and become a more Christ-like person, which will make you a more balanced and healthy person.

Peripheral Neuropathy (PN)--burning, cramping, numbness, tingling, sharp pains in the feet and sometimes hands, is becoming extremely common. A high percentage of cases can be reversed without surgery or medications. So, it is still difficult to fathom the gauntlet a patient suffering from this condition must confront in an attempt to obtain a correct diagnosis or successful treatment.

Medical literature contains an abundance of peer-reviewed studies, cataloging the multitude of causes that create the above symptoms, and one would speculate that the awareness of the literature among medical doctors should result in a diagnosis of PN and its known cause. Indeed, the Contemporary Neurology Series--essentially the medical bible on such matters, in its peripheral neuropathy in chemical practice volume (and is distributed free to most neurologists and neurosurgeons)--lists as many as 80 possible causes.

Yet today the PN patient is still told “maybe you have PN.” Tests for diabetes, spinal cord problems, or nerve entrapment in the ankle may or may not be run. If tests are run and are positive for one of these causes, medical intervention into diabetes or surgical intervention for the spinal cord or ankle problems may be performed. If these procedures are not effective (and this list includes post-chemo peripheral neuropathy), the patient is regularly told its idiopathic (has no known cause) and you can take these medications for the rest of your life or you just have to live with it, or both. Huh?

Let’s look at a recent case that is representative of the challenges faced by the average PN patient. A 70-year-old Caucasian male comes in with numb toes that he has been unable to move easily since 1998. He went to his Primary Care Physician, who sent

Written By Martin Rutherford, d.c., c.c.s.t. and Randall gates, d.c., d.a.c.N.B.

him to a neurologist, who told him “his nerve endings were dying.” No diagnosis was rendered. The patient researched the symptoms on his own and came to a self diagnosis of Peripheral Neuropathy. For the record, his diagnosis was correct. He developed further symptoms, but his primary symptom was still numbness. His legs also felt like “big lumps,” and he currently feels like he is “walking on rocks,” which he describes as being uncomfortable. This description of pain alone suggests three probable, separate, but simultaneous causes of his foot symptoms--all of which are listed in the abovementioned medical neurology textbook series.

He does not have diabetes but was started on Lipitor about the same time some of the symptoms started, as he has “always had high cholesterol.” He had his gallbladder removed and has several thyroid symptoms. He has chronic stomach problems, which removing his gallbladder did not resolve. He also has restless leg syndrome (RLS). This was expressed as numbness, tingling, and pain and needles in his legs, which made him need to move them at night so he could sleep.

All of this history is significant…

After a complete neurological and general systems history and examination was completed, here’s what was found: His examination was suggestive of what is termed a distal symmetric polyneuropathy, involving loss of all of the five different types of nerve endings in his feet. This cannot occur due to only one cause. The exam concluded that the spine, ankles, diabetes and/or chemotherapy were not among the causes for his PN. It was ultimately found that the statin exposure (the Lipitor) was causing the “restless leg” symptoms and he was referred back to his MD for this matter. Additionally, he was

found to have a gluten intolerance, which can cause gluten related peripheral neuropathy and balance conditions about eight to 11 percent of the time. This gluten intolerance was also the cause of his “stomach” problems and unnecessary gallbladder removal. Two of the many causes of “distal symmetric polyneuropathy” (one of many types of neuropathy listed in the literature) are autoimmune diseases and thyroid conditions. This patient tested positive for two autoimmune diseases—Hashimotos (an autoimmune attack on his thyroid) and Celiac (an autoimmune attack triggered by gluten on his small intestines (remember the stomach problem?). He also had multiple additional food allergies, all of which were affecting his immune system, which was in turn attacking and damaging his “nerve endings” and “causing them to die.” Many other causes, as per the medical model’s own literature, were ruled out with fairly minimal and cost effective blood salivary and urinary testing.

Management of the above findings resulted in a cessation of the patient’s declining symptoms and a symptomatic reversal of 50 to 70 percent of the symptoms to date. The patient is about two thirds of the way through treatment and further progress is expected.

This case is classic in its representation of the challenges the Peripheral Neuropathy patient faces in obtaining a specific diagnosis of the cause of his or her PN in the medical model. Or, in this case, the challenges of obtaining a diagnosis of the multiple causes of the patient’s symptoms and/or condition, and obtaining a specific non-drug, non-surgical solution to their problem.

The lesson? If you’re told your PN is caused by diabetes, spinal, ankle conditions, or chemo, and you haven’t responded to treatment for those diagnosis--and you have been relegated to live with it, or with a lifetime drug regimen--find a certified Functional Medicine Doctor or a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist (or both) in your area and get a full evaluation before giving up.

There’s almost nothing worse than experiencing ear pain, itching, loss of hearing, or a sinus headache.

Ear Candling is an ancient practice, dating back to biblical times in Egypt, the Orient, as well as European cultures. This simple, gentle treatment removes wax from the ear, improving your sense of well-being, physical, mental and even spiritual. The candle is a long hollow tube made from unbleached muslin immersed in an aromatic herbal solution. After it dries, the cone is then dipped into beeswax. The cone or candle is then placed into the ear opening and the top of the cone is lit; soft warm white smoke billows down the tube into the ear and softens the wax. The flame on top of the cone creates a vacuum that pulls out built up wax, toxins, bacteria, dirt and residue from past medications. Ear Candling may also help with a dry hacking cough (a result of a sinus infection), sinus headache, tinnitus, and itchy ear. Today more people are seeking alternatives to digging in the ear with Q-tips or using a hydrogen peroxide flush to clean a blocked ear canal. Ear Candling is a relaxing, natural, non-intrusive treatment.

Our breathing relies heavily on water. Moisture in the nasal passages traps pollen and air-borne debris, then washes them into the stomach for disposal. It also helps sinus mucus be thin enough to drain easily. Water in the bronchial tube continues washing things to the digestive tract. It also aids the lungs with elasticity for expansion and contraction, and keeps the oxygen trapping cilia in good condition.

Ways our Lifestyle add to chronic sinus issues:

Having enough water to facilitate breathing and keep the sinuses open also means your urine will be colorless. Many of us believe urine is supposed to be yellow. Eighty to ninety percent of us are dehydrated, which leads to concentrated yellow urine, so most of the urine we see is yellow. Except for a baby’s urine, because his or her main nourishment comes in liquid form, so their urine is generally colorless.

Living in dry areas also affect your sinuses. For instance, if you lived in Hawaii, the temperature averages between 71 and 90 degrees. This means you’d lose less water through sweating, unless you did manual labor. Water in the air would average 63 percent, nearly as high as the content inside your body at 75 percent. In that climate, we’d all look like the Islanders with plump, smooth skin because it’s easier to stay hydrated. Back here in many of the other States, we have to be pro-active about keeping our bodies moist enough to thwart sinus infection, because in some areas like Nevada, average humidity levels can be as low as 15 percent and temperatures sometimes over 100 degrees in the summer.

Raising the ambient humidity level will reduce breathing irritation that opens the door for bacteria and viruses to cause sinus, ear, throat and lung infections. A room humidifier runs from $30 to over $300. One good basic model simply runs a fan that distributes moisture as it evaporates from its basin. Having a humidifier running the hours of sleep can also add to the quality of that rest period. Be sure to add white vinegar to the water to eliminate bacteria.

While keeping the sinus passages from swelling up and cutting off healing air flow, antihistamine medications may not be a good choice. In order to keep the mucus from building up, the decongestants interfere with the production of sinus moisture, making mucus thicker and harder to move out of the area.

Ways You can Prevent chronic sinus issues:

• Petroleum jelly can heal cracks inside the nostrils and keep the area moisturized, but excessive amounts of the gel can slip into the lungs and cause problems there. Sesame oil or calamine lotion can accomplish the same goal.

• Sleeping with your head elevated will drain the upper sinuses.

• Saline sprays can be purchased at drugstores or made at home by mixing 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a glass of filtered water. This solution can be inserted into the nasal passages via eyedropper or pump spray.

• A long hot shower, sauna bath, or breathing vapors from hot water may not be a good choice because of the irritating chlorine breathed in and absorbed through the skin.

• A warm compress on your face may soothe sinus pain. An ice pack at the base of the skull can shrink tissues and reduce headache there.

• Avoid wheat, wine and milk, which are all sinus irritants.

• As described in Part 2 of this series, pressure washing the sinuses is helpful even if they are not clogged. If the sinuses are clear, even a Neti pot will hydrate and soothe them.

• Health stores report that nasal sprays with Xylitol sell well because it kills bacteria that can cause infection. Colloidal silver sprays do the same to thwart bacteria.

Since the first line of defense in preventing sinus problems is keeping those tissues hydrated, the basic preventative is to divide your body weight by two and then drink that number of ounces of water each and every day: body weight of 160 pounds divided by 2 = 80 ounces or 10 eight-ounce glasses of water.

Soul Connection is about finding your purpose & meaning. You are enough as you are. You are the Soul. Realize that, and you have all your abilities in present time. You matter, and you being on your path matters.

Today there is a widespread denial and unconsciousness of spirit. Loss of this soul connection results in low energy states such as depression, overwhelm, anxiety, control issues, trouble moving ahead or making choices and illness (even insanity). We have little by little been drained of our soul connection due to materialistic control agendas. We have come to consider this numbness and lack of meaning as “normal,” which is reinforced through institutions and media.

Psychic is a Greek word meaning “soul energy,” the energy, the vibration, of your soul, you. The energy of “what is.” This is actually physics. So, we are talking about the “truth” at that moment. The truth is a single energy of “what is,” a lie or valance is two energies, which is that of “what is” and another over or in front of what is.

Being psychic is about being aware of “what is,” what is behind the lie. The difference between being psychic and being intuitive, or being a person of faith, is certainty. Everyone is psychic; some know it and some pretend they don’t. The simple act of owning “what is” brings you to a place of responsibility of your choices. When we go along, acting like these false constructs of ourselves, others, or the world are real, it is to avoid taking that responsibility. It is to exist in an unreal world of illusions that then need to be protected.

You can reconnect with your Soul. It is your choice to awaken out of the slumber of unconsciousness to the grace of awareness. This awareness brings the inner certainty that creates purposeful

connection and relationship and personal purpose. Bringing you, the unique vibration that is you, into your body, into your personality and guiding your spirit. It brings you to a realization of your unique place in the purposeful creative universe of time, space and beyond. It is the experience of joy when you hear the voice of your soul; see the beauty of its design.

How do you do this? Learn the language of the soul, mental image pictures. This is you communicating with yourself, not arbitrary “thoughts.” It is information to navigate your life with. Choose to make the sometimes simple choices that reflect your integrity. Demand your choices in life reflect who you are, rather than following the herd instinct or the programming of other agendas. Do what is right for you and you will find the universe around you reforming to reflect your wisdom and vision back to you. This is truly the only way to fix you and to fix the world.

To get started on your path, place yourself in spaces where you receive validation for your

perceptions and recognition of you as a soul; you who you actually are. This makes it real. Take yourself out of environments that demand you accommodate to other than what is true. You are your Soul and you can create “miracles” anytime, anywhere, right now. We come fully equipped to bring our soul into our lives, to be the glorious Beings that we are, right here, right now.

W.C. Fields once said, “Never give a sucker an even break.” And, as stated in the movie Rounders, “It’s immoral to let a sucker keep his money.”

[An excerpt from the mind of an old gambling man]

The old man went on to say, “Most people hear that and think it’s just some conman credo, a self-serving ethic of opportunism. They believe you ought to go easy on the innocents and the naïve. Hold their finger to the fire, but don’t burn it. But after 70 years of life as a gambler, I’ll tell you what I’ve learned…”

“Gambling ain’t for sissies. It’s not for the wide-eyed people who think it’s just a game of chance and luck. They go to a casino looking for some novelty. They got some dough to play around with; they think they got some money to lose. I say, help them lose it. You know why? Because the first rule of gambling, and life for that matter, is that you’ve never got money to lose. Money is like time and energy, like life itself. It’s not a plaything, a toy. It’s not expendable. There’s a reason why the fool and his money are soon parted: money is better off in the hands of those who know its value.”

“Sure, you wear kid gloves when you’re playing with kids. Children are innocent and naïve by nature. They’re learning the basics of life so you take them by the hand. But an adult, well now that’s another matter. A man wants to take a seat at the poker table, you treat him like a man. Nature don’t cut no breaks to those who should know better. It don’t remind the winter traveler to pack some gloves and a coat, or the fisherman to bring his life jacket.”

“You see, the real thing about being a sucker is being unconscious. Sure, we’re all ignorant of some things. But

life doesn’t have a lot of mercy for people that are ignorant about things they shouldn’t be ignorant of. I call it negligent ignorance. Go easy on the sucker and you just enable him in his ignorance. Or, better yet, at the end of the night, when he walks away with all your money, it will dawn on you that the real sucker wasn’t him. It was you.”

“I’ve learned two rules through gambling that have helped me a lot in life. The first is that life doesn’t support unconsciousness; and it doesn’t support those who collude with unconsciousness. The second is that the unconscious and the innocent are rarely as unconscious and innocent as you would like to believe. Being unconscious is a bet that some people have made with life. And, rest assured, they’re betting it will pay off big time

with you,” ended the old man.

A described in the November 2013 issue, a lot of toxic substances make their ways into our drinking water. Your area may be relatively clean, but your water supply may be a river that passes through many other areas in which it has been used and reused before it reaches your stream, aquifer or well. This is why you may consider other drinking water sources, mitigating, or even changing the condition of your municipal water supply.

Consuming bottled water is a high, on-going expense. Buying a filter for your already-paid for tap water may seem costly up front, but can be cheaper in the long run. Your choice of filters is dependent upon which contaminants you want to remove, or which qualities you care to enhance.

carbon Filters

“Activated” carbon is produced by heating charcoal anywhere from 600 to 1,200 degrees Celsius. The positively charged charcoal particles magnetically attract the negatively charged contaminants.

Activated carbon’s absorption ability is high because of its large available surface area that can take in chlorine, thus improving the water’s taste and smell. The most effective types can remove asbestos, lead, mercury, and volatile organic compounds. They cannot remove inorganic pollutants such as arsenic, fluoride, and nitrates. The longer the contact time between water and carbon, the more contaminants are removed. Carbon filters do not remove natural minerals from the water.

Over time, the carbon pores become blocked with contaminants and are no longer effective. They will also become breeding colonies for various bacteria so should be replaced on a regular basis.

ceramic Filters

These filters have very small holes that collect sediments, but do not remove any chemical contaminants.

ultraviolet irradiation

Using short wave lengths of ultraviolet irradiation destroys the nucleic acids and disrupts the DNA of pathogens, parasites, viruses and molds. It has been used since the mid 20th century to sterilize drinking water, wastewater and air. It has been used primarily for medical sanitation and in sterile work facilities since it is very effective.

Installation and maintenance are simple, no chemicals are added; there is no change in taste, odor, pH, conductivity or chemistry of the water. UV filters can be paired with ceramic and cartridge style filters. They are especially helpful whenever a “must boil your water” alert is issued by a municipal or well water source.

UV wavelengths can produce sunburn, skin cancer, eye damage, and produce ozone. Once water has been treated, care must be taken that it is not re-contaminated before drinking. Irradiation has been found to reduce or destroy vitamins, proteins and fatty acids in food. Nothing could be found regarding damage to minerals.

Reverse osmosis Filters

This system is based on size exclusion. A series of membranes through which the water passes have such small portals that they can theoretically trap all particles. It can purify salt water, and fresh water contaminated with chemicals (such as MTBE), biological, radiological and nuclear agents. The filtration benefit is permanent.

Between only five to 15 percent of the water is retained for use while the rest is discharged along with the contaminants, so a lot of water is wasted. The sole remaining element is water.

Being left with only water is the drawback of reverse osmosis--no helpful minerals remain. People in the Czech and Slovak population who began using reverse osmosis home systems during 2000-2002 quickly reported symptoms of cardiovascular disorders, tiredness, weakness, and muscle cramps associated with magnesium deficiency. Other studies revealed a plethora of dire mineral deficiency maladies too numerous to mention.

A scientific study concluded that minerals in food did not sufficiently replaced those not present in reverse osmosis water. It becomes clear electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) and trace minerals should all be constantly supplemented when using this system. Required mineral replacement is a fair trade-off considering the poisons this system can remove.

Reverse osmosis systems can be purchased for your kitchen faucet and ice maker in the $400 range plus installation. There is also the two to four times a year membrane replacement cost of about $25. Whole house systems are available for about $1,000, plus a monthly service fee that includes filter replacement for around 6 cents per gallon.

Some of these reverse osmosis systems are not as brutal in removing the beneficial minerals (and contaminants) and do not waste as much water. These can run about $700 plus $100 annual filter cost

Alkaline-Ionized Modifiers

Instead of concentrating solely on pollutants, these filters also change other aspects of the water.

Due to the electrical charges inherent in calcium and magnesium, they use electrolysis to separate the water into the acid portion, and alkaline part with a pH greater than 7.0. Water alkalinity is of interest since cancer thrives in an acidic environment and normal cells die if the body pH becomes too acidic. These products deliver highly alkaline water to counter any existing body acidity. The resulting acidic water produced by alkaline-ionizers can be used to sterilize utensils and surfaces around the home.

The pH scale ranges from 0-14 and is a measure of the hydrogen ions present. One pH unit is ten times higher, or lower, than its neighbor number. Anything with a pH below 7.0 is considered acidic and harmful to the body. Battery acid is around one on this scale. Above seven is alkaline, with lye near the top at 13.

Most aquatic plants and animals have adapted to life in water with a very specific pH and will die from even slight variations. Most likely the optimal drinking water pH for humans is between 6.5 and 7.5. It makes sense that our bodies have adapted to the pH of naturally available water around 7.0 plus minerals.

You can purchase litmus paper for about $20 from a vitamin store to assess the pH of your tap water. Dip a strip of into your tap water and before it dries, compare its color to the pH color chart. Your body alkalinity can be assessed by dipping the paper into a urine sample in the morning when the normal reading should be 6.0 to 6.5, and in the evening at 6.5 to 7.0. Saliva testing should be done an hour before a meal or two hours after to avoid acidic digestive enzymes. Normal saliva should stay between 6.5 and 7.5 all day.

Some of the alkaline-ionized filtration systems boast output in the 9-10 pH range. Many people claim this level of alkalinity is dangerous if ingested over a period of time. This high pH water raises stomach alkalinity, which neutralizes the stomach acid’s ability to digest food, leading to the assimilation of fewer minerals and other nutrients over time. Alkaline water is also antibacterial, so not only will it kill disease causing bacteria in the digestive tract, but also the necessary flora for food digestion.

It can be helpful to ingest alkaline water for a period of time to raise your body’s overall alkalinity. Look at acidalkalinediet.com, it lists the alkaline/acidic ratings of many foods so you can make wise alkaline pH eating choices.

Ionization proponents believe the body cannot survive without negative ions and the presence of hydroxyl ions, which scavenge free radicals, causing disease and premature cell aging. The ionization makes the water a liquid antioxidant that is easily absorbed.

Another sales point for these systems is that it breaks down the usual 10 to 13 unit molecular clusters of water into clusters of around five to eight. The belief is that its smaller size has a higher hydrating and detoxifying effect because they make “water wetter,” easing its entrance into body cells. Hydrated tissues are definitely more easily detoxified than dehydrated ones.

These systems may also have filtration capabilities with up to 13 levels of filtration to remove such pollutants as radiation.

The antioxidant ions in this water will last about 18-24 hours, the alkaline properties remain for one to two weeks, and the smaller molecular groupings adhere for one to three months.

Alkaline-ionizers are countertop units, some even portable, priced around $2,000. Your vitamin store may also be a source for this water. Some systems are programmable with up to 13 levels of filtration removing different things at each level. With a programmable unit you can choose the level of alkalinity produced. The electrodes must be scoured clean every few months to retain their effectiveness. Some units add chemicals to enhance alkalinity.

create Beautiful Water crystals

Don’t stop drinking your re-hydration water just because you’re researching water filters, deciding which one fits your needs. Your body requires a steady stream of water and minerals all day long. Perhaps Dr. Masaru Emoto’s suggestion can help you feel better about your tap water.

Quantum physics says that thoughts, words and emotions such as love, hate, joy, and sadness are more than thoughts--they are actual physical particles that attract similar vibrations. These physical particles of emotion and thought can attach to water and redesign its frozen shapes.

Dr. Emoto studied the effects of music on water and found different kinds of music caused its molecules to take on different shapes when frozen. Testing different waters from around the world, he found tap water and stagnant or polluted water do not form beautiful crystals when frozen, yet instead produced deformed structures. Rainwater, water from clean rivers, glaciers and holy places form beautiful symmetrical shapes. When he played beautiful music near tap water, it would then make pleasing crystals.

Next, he placed phrases written on pieces of tape on bottles of tap water. The physical particles of emotion and thought attached to the water and influenced its properties. Words such as “Thank you” and “I love you” caused the water to form beautiful crystals. The words “you make me sick” and “You are

a fool” caused ugly and distorted crystals, or no crystals at all. He concluded with praying for the water, sending it loving thoughts and blessings, and the tap water produced beautiful frozen crystals and a healthier beverage.

Dr. Corazon Ibarra suggests cradling your glass of tap water between the palms of your hands while mentally or verbally sending it loving energy and thanking it for hydrating your body. This positive affirmation will also change the water (and its frozen crystals) instantly into a life-enhancing liquid. Then you can drink your special water.

If simple thoughts and music can influence water, imagine what it can do to your body, which is roughly 70 percent water. If you forgot to enhance that water before you drank it, you can even do it now while it’s inside your body. Wrap you arms around yourself and whisper “Thank you,” or “Peace and harmony.” While your arms are there, send your whole body messages of love, healing, acceptance and wellness. You are what you think.

So, bottoms up with that glass of water. To your health. Live long and prosper!

Most of us are ignoring a very powerful force for good in our lives. Albert Einstein said, “A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labor of others, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.” With these words, Einstein gave us one of the secrets to his success: gratitude--expressed a hundred times every day.

Your mind is a magic creation instrument, and if you’re feeling gratitude for anything, and focusing that feeling by expressing it, you are creating, attracting and magnetizing to yourself more of what you want. It seems that we have to be grateful for what we have before we can easily attract more. Maybe you think you don’t have enough, or are resentful because someone else has more. Those thoughts and feelings are going to attract more of “not enough.” Just like you can’t get 107.2 on the radio if you’ve dialed in 98.6, you can’t get more of what you want if you’re sending out thoughts of not having it. The frequencies don’t match and never will.

You may say, “But I’m working so hard! I should have everything I want by now!” The idea of working hard for success is programming, but we never got the other half of it. We just got the “work hard” conditioning. The instructions to think, believe and expect only what you want was never included in the programming.

Where does high Blood Pressure come From?

Some doctors think that high blood pressure comes from increased levels of heavy metals such as lead and mercury that are being released from storage sites in our bones, especially as we age and start losing bone tissue. One potential cause of increased blood pressure may be from chronic infection in our teeth, and the bones surrounding the teeth, being released into the blood stream and poisoning our kidneys. The kidneys in turn increase blood pressure to get rid of the body’s poisoning, which causes this chronic ailment. No doubt that hardening of the arteries contribute to hypertension (increased blood pressure), but some patients who are athletic and follow a strict low carb diet are still suffering from high blood pressure.

For example, a 54-year-old businessman already on the maximum dosage of three common blood pressure medications, who was also in a high stress job, had high blood pressure (186/106). He was frustrated that he couldn’t get it under control. He was exercising regularly and following a strict Paleo diet. Weight was a moderate issue, but all his blood tests were in the normal range.

After diagnosing bone infections in his formerly root canaled tooth, and in the bones where his wisdom teeth used to be, he began a month long treatment to reduce the infections. The therapy consisted of applying ozonated coconut oil on cotton swabs to the gums next to the infected teeth for 20 minutes per day, several times per week. Ozone is a powerful disinfectant and kills bacteria, fungi and viruses. After the month of ozone therapy, his blood pressure dropped to 136/76, an incredible change in such a short time.

Biological dentists postulate that root canaled teeth can cause slow growing chronic infection and gradually release infectious toxins into the body, affecting distant organs. German dentists call them “a corpse in the attic.”

The wisdom teeth areas, if not properly cleaned out when the teeth are removed, can also contain hidden infections. Loss of the mechanical stimulation of chewing may also weaken the bones, promoting infection. Teeth are a huge problem in many chronic illnesses.

Another example. A 62-year-old woman with a 20 year history of chronic bone infections in her maxilla (upper jaw bone), initially caused by failed root canal treated teeth, had a blood pressure that spiked. She was maintained on three blood pressure medications to stay in a high/normal range. After a surgery on her infected and poorly replaced bone tissue, she dropped down to normal blood pressure ranges and no longer required blood pressure medications.

There are many causes for high blood pressure, but it seems that dental infections may be one of the overlooked causes.

It’s like one risk after another, and that’s just the short list! Statin use can also lead to severe muscle pain, sexual dysfunction, memory loss, cataracts and more.

Just last year, a major study found that statins can increase your risk of cataracts by 57 percent! Even worse, that study found statins can cause you to get the condition up to six years earlier than you would have otherwise!

If you truly do have dangerously high cholesterol, don’t fret. Diet (high protein, low carbohydrate) alone can usually bring your levels down to where they need to be. If you need a little extra help, try natural therapies such as red yeast rice. If you need to, consult with a physician who is familiar with this type of treatment.

Bottom line…DON’T TAKE STATIN DRUGS!

Last month’s article touched on the badly flawed statin prescription process; leading many to the use of statin drugs through the recommendation of their doctor.

Statins are most certainly unsafe, and new research shows how they’re especially dangerous for women, increasing the risk of breast cancer by double or more!

The risk kicks in after a decade of use. This is no time at all, when you consider many women are given the drugs in middle age and expected to take them for life. Once they hit the 10 year mark, the risks begin to climb. The risk of invasive ductal cancer (the most common form of breast cancer) increases by 83 percent, and by a whopping 200 percent if you have high cholesterol. They also increase the risk of lobular (glandular) breast cancer by 97 percent and by a stunning 243 percent in statin users with high cholesterol!

If these were the only risks of statin drugs, I’d say they’re reason enough to not take them…but they’re not.

They’re not even the only cancers linked to these drugs. The low cholesterol levels they cause can actually increase your risk of blood cancers.

Statins are also linked to diabetes. This risk occurs in men and women alike, but a risk that’s higher in women and highest of all in older women. Those are the very same women who are facing an increased risk of breast cancer from these drugs.

Parenting has to be one of the most fulfilling, yet challenging undertakings I have experienced so far. It has completely changed the way I see the world, the way I see myself, and my priorities. It’s no secret that even though parenting can bring indescribable joy into our lives, it is certainly not always easy, and sometimes it can be downright stressful. Before I became pregnant, I had respect and appreciation for mindfulness practices, especially meditation and yoga. Since becoming a mother, I have an even deeper appreciation for the gifts that mindfulness practice brings to my family.

Being mindful is to be present in the here and now, which sounds simple enough, but it really is quite difficult. Once you start to observe how the mind functions in daily life, it often runs on auto-pilot, playing out long established, unconscious mental patterns. The mind can often get stuck dwelling on past memories, or it can get consumed with concerns that may or may not happen in the future. Sophia Loren once said, “a mother must think twice, once for herself, and once for her child.” As individual beings, being mindful in the present moment can make the difference between avoiding a life-altering accident, or not. It can make the difference between staying calm in a high pressure situation, or not. When we have the added responsibility of caring for a child, the need to be mindful becomes that much more crucial.

While I still have lots of room for improvement on the mindfulness front, I have found a few simple practices that are rooted in

yogic traditions to be extremely beneficial my own wellbeing, and my ability to be present for my son. Some of these practices are especially helpful in instances that have the potential to be stressful, such as when a child is upset, or you as a parent are on the verge of losing your temper. While I am writing about how I use these practices to care for my infant son, many of these could be easily adapted for an older child as well.

Make time for Meditation: Even just five minutes of sitting quietly and observing the breath will do. Right now, I find the best time for me is before I even get out of bed in the morning. I usually wake up a little bit before my son is fully awake. By taking a few minutes to observe my breath, I can begin my day feeling calm. With beginning my day by centering myself in gratitude for the privilege and responsibility of caring for this young being, I feel better prepared to meet the challenges of the day ahead.

Breathe deep: Teaching your young child about the breath can be a fun sensory activity. You can hold a tissue in your hand to show your baby how the breath moves it on the exhale. I find it makes my son giggle when I blow lightly along his hairline. Deep, exaggerated slow inhales, and audible exhales can help a child to calm down when they are upset, and it will help you stay calm as well. Exhaling with “horse lips” is another good way to help both you and your child relieve some tension.

squats: While holding your child in a supported position that is safe and appropriate for their age, stand with your back straight, and tailbone tucked. Bend your knees swiftly and lower your body closer to ground. Do this in combination with deep breaths.

chant: A lot of the tones in Sanskrit chants are really soothing to babies. Chanting “OM” is sweet and simple, and is a sound your baby can easily mimic. If you don’t feel comfortable chanting, a simple “mmm” sound that allows for a lot of vibration in the vocal cords can also be quite calming to you and your child.

SPIRITUALHEALTH

One of my clients recently asked, “Does love change its mind? Our relationship was going so well and then it seemed to die on the vine.“ I was guided to say to her that Love does not change its mind, the mind changes it’s idea “about” love.

The mind is the catalyst for all “that is” in our lives. This is why I often say, “If you want to change your life, you must first change your mind.“

I believe that we draw to us, the type of love (and lovers) we believe we deserve. It’s easy to see, when you look back over past relationships and notice that the same lessons (patterns) keep playing out over and over. What I do know for sure: No one comes into your life by accident. You draw others to you by how you live and by how you think.

Iyanla Vanzant tells us that people come into our life for a reason, a season or for a lifetime. Such a principle is hard to accept if you operate on the belief that every friendship is a forever friendship and that your “prince charming” is going to rush into your life, rescue you from your worries and woes, and be there until you take your last breath. Your intellectual mind knows that isn’t true--couldn’t be true. But another part of your being--the ego part that endeavors to provide for you whatever you affirm consciously or subconsciously want--will draw that to you. In your heart you want the forever love, but you buy into the mind chatter that says, “No one wants you; you are to (fill in the blank).” If this is true for you, you will draw to you the lover that promises to be there forever, but then abandons you in the end. Consider this: the friends and lovers you have in your life right now are the ones you think you deserve. Not happy about that? Then change your mind.

Look at the people close to you right now. Who among them, friends and lovers, puts you first? Who among them affirms your highest good? And for those who do, it is the very reason they are in your life! Embrace them; celebrate them, for they see you for who you really are. Now, what are the rest of the

people in your life showing you? If you have a relationship that is less than ideal, ask yourself, “what is it I am to learn from this relationship?” And, “what are they showing me--about me?” Perhaps it’s someone that is in your life for a “season.” A former spouse that you must endure until your child turns 18. Or, the boss that you must endure until you can find another job. If you want to change your relationship with them, then change your mind about how you see them.

If you are coping with an ex-spouse, remind yourself each time you see them that you would never know the gift of your child’s laughter had they not come into your life. That is the reason the two of you crossed pathways. Be grateful for it. Then remember that soon, your time for coping with them will end.

Changing your mind is as simple as negating the negative mind chatter. If you hear yourself saying, “you can’t do this,” immediately say out loud, “not true! I can do this and I will find a way.” Surround yourself with the positive. Stop listening to the naysayers and surround yourself with people who affirm you. Listen to the music that surrounds you. Are the lyrics affirming or are the lyrics a portrayal of victims, or degrading? If so, remove it from the soundtrack of your life.

No doubt there are people in your life you love, but the relationship doesn’t serve your higher good. Now may be the time to redefine your love for them and to limit the influence they have on you; to discern why they’ve come into your life. Is it for a reason, a season or more? Just know that love does not go away, it transforms. But, love can only transform when you are willing to change your mind as to how you love and be loved.

Rhonda Byrne is famous for her movie The Secret (2006), as well as the book of the same title, which was published the following year. The Secret is the basic fundamental work that explains the theory and philosophy of the law of attraction and how to apply it to each area of your life (relationships, health, work, money, etc.). It has been translated into 47 languages and has sold millions of copies worldwide. The Power takes the law of attraction to a much deeper level. Many people watched the movie The Secret or read the book, and found the concepts fascinating but didn’t know how to put them to work in a lasting way. Most of the information in both books came from the New Thought movement in the early 1900s, and from the Abraham-Hicks work begun in the 1980s and continuing today.

The “power” is the power of love. Physicists today are realizing there is a “carrier” of signals that cause those signals to travel thousands, even millions of miles, instantaneously. The Abraham-Hicks work calls that consciousness Source Energy and the carrier “a powerful flow of well-being.” Our lives are made up of only two kinds of things: positive things or negative things. Each area of our lives, whether it’s health, relationships, work, money or happiness, is either positive or negative to you. You have good years or bad years, good days or bad days and if you have more negative things than positive things in your life, then something is very wrong, and you know it. The author explains that without exception, every person who has a great life used love to achieve it. The power to have all the positive and good things in life is love. Another word closely associated with the word love is appreciation. We can almost use them interchangeably. If the word love is too amorphous to get a picture of right now, substitute the word appreciation. You can get a clear idea of giving that, receiving it and knowing what it looks and feels like.

The concept of love has been talked about and written about since the beginning of time, by the greatest authors, philosophers, prophets and leaders. But many of us have not truly understood their words. They wrote for the people of their time, but their one truthful message to the world is still the same today: love (appreciate), because when you love, you’re using the greatest power in the universe. The philosopher Teilhard de Chardin said, “Love is the most powerful and still most unknown energy in the world.” New Thought author Charles Haanel said, “The law of attraction or the law of love…they are one and the same.”

So what are we talking about here? Isaac Newton said, “To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” So we get what we give out, mentally, emotionally and physically. Very simple. The first thing that happens when we think a thought…is that the vibrational frequency of that thought goes out into this energy soup we live in (which physicists call the Field of all Probabilities) and attracts back to us the situations, conditions and people that match the thought. Things don’t happen to us; they happen through us. The author explains that life follows us because of our thoughts and attitudes. It doesn’t sneak up on us, or jump out at us from behind a bush. Without exception, everything we have ever personally experienced as adults has occurred because of our thoughts (attitudes and expectations) and the feelings that followed.

Because we weren’t taught these concepts as children, when we hear these ideas we immediately start to try to find things that have happened “to us” that were not our doing. Rhonda Byrne gets down to the nitty-gritty and gives examples of how, in every area of our lives, we are attracting our own reality. She explains the power of feelings and how they are the fuel to our thoughts, and are necessary in order to create what we want. She explains that the keys to power, money, relationships and health are our thoughts and the emotions that are caused by our thoughts. She gives specific examples and ideas of how to think and how not to think. When you visualize something you want, you must also employ the emotion that you would feel if you had it right now. Charles Haanel said, “The emotions must be called upon to give feeling to the thought so it will take form.” No emotion? No manifestation. Neville Goddard, another New Thought author said, “Be careful of your moods and feelings, for there is an unbroken connection between your feelings and your visible world.”

This New York Times bestseller is easy to read and has a wealth of information you can start using today. You can purchase it online or from your local bookstore.

Bacopa has been shown to cause an upset stomach when taken alone. In Ayurveda, Brahmi is taken with ghee (clarified butter), which makes sense considering that bacopa is fat soluble and requires a lipid transporter to be best absorbed. A simple recipe is to dissolve brahmi powder in warm milk with a touch of cardamom and ghee. Bacopa can also be taken as a capsule or pill, and when taken with food, is less likely to upset the stomach. While there are no other known side effects, it is not advisable to take bacopa while pregnant or breast feeding. As always, consult with your care provider before working with this herb. It takes as long as six weeks of regular use for the cognitive benefits of this herb to become apparent.

Brahmi can easily be cultivated in your backyard. It thrives in well-watered pots, or even in aquariums. Because they are native to marshlands, they like lots of water and do not require much drainage from the soil.

HERBS&SPICES

Written By allison Prater

Bacopa monnieri is a dense perennial succulent, native to wetland habitats in Southern India and Australia. It is also known as Water Hyssop, and thyme-leafed gratiola. In Ayurvedic Medicine, bacopa is known as Brahmi, after the Hindu creator God Brahma. It is the second highest rated herb in Ayurvedic Medicine. This herb grows in dense mats with axial clusters of small, bell-shaped leaves, and small flowers of white or pale blue.

Bacopa is consumed both as savory salad herb, as well as for medicinal purposes. In Ayurveda Brahmi is taken for the treatment of epilepsy. It is also used in the treatment of asthma, ulcers, tumors, indigestion, inflammations and anemia. In Chinese Medicine, bacopa is taken to warm the kidneys and stimulate yang energy. It is prescribed for impotence, premature ejaculation, kidney related backache, uterine fertility problems, irregular menstruation and rheumatism.

Bacopa is also used to enhance brain function. It is full of antioxidants and contains several biochemical compounds that enhance the function of neurotransmitters in the brain. It has been researched in several clinical trials in both India and the US. Studies suggest that bacopa can help maintain mental clarity as we age. It has been used in the treatment of both depression and Parkinson’s disease, as it has been shown to stimulate dopamine receptors.

But together with taking action, our thoughts, beliefs and expectations of success create a powerful energy vortex that draws to you everything you want. Action alone doesn’t do it very fast. Just thinking/dreaming about it doesn’t do it very fast either. It takes both mind power and physical action to manifest quickly. The secret is that it takes much less physical action if you’re using mind power. And appreciation is the booster. It’s something you can do every day that doesn’t cost a cent and is so easy. It’s like a Star Trek tractor beam. It draws to you what you want. If you have no conscious spoken appreciation of what you already have, the tractor beam (the attractor force) switches off and it’s much harder to manifest additional things.

Appreciation is such a user-friendly emotion. As far as attracting what you want, its power is right up there with love, joy, empowerment and freedom. But in the midst of a crisis, we cannot always get ourselves up to those high positive frequencies. However, we can always get to appreciation--gratitude for something is always possible. Appreciation is an easy way to get up to the level of frequencies that are necessary in order for us to attract what we want, and it works. And the more often we do it, the easier it becomes. In other words, if you increase your feelings of gratitude, the results in your life will expand to be equal to the feelings! Rhonda Byrne says, “If you practice gratitude a little, your life will change a little. If you practice gratitude a lot every day, your life will change dramatically and in ways that you can hardly imagine.”

When we’re grateful for the things we have, no matter how small, those things increase. If we’re grateful for the money we have, we’ll see it magically grow. If we’re grateful for a relationship, even if it’s not perfect, it will miraculously get better. If we’re grateful for the job we have, even if it’s not that dream job, things will begin to change so that work is more enjoyable and all kinds of opportunities begin to flow our way. This isn’t rocket science but it is physics. And because we weren’t taught about the magnetic properties of thoughts when we were kids, we may be doubtful. Well, try it! Prove it to yourself. But you have to be consistent and really mean it, because the magic of gratitude happens according to the degree of your feeling!

It also helps to write down what you’re grateful for as in, “I am so happy and grateful for ________because________.” When you write down WHY you’re grateful, it becomes more meaningful for you. It elicits more positive emotions, and that gets you into a more active state of creation and increases the power of the “attractor” beam. Oprah Winfrey says, “I started out giving thanks for small things, and the more thankful I became, the more my bounty increased. That’s because what you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it. Opportunities, relationships and money flowed my way when I learned to be grateful no matter what happened in my life.”

So prove to yourself how your life can change for the better when you speak gratitude to yourself, to your family and friends, at work, to strangers, to Creation and even to yourself. The stabilizing and healing power of consistently expressing gratitude gives you a heartfelt feeling of confidence and empowerment unlike anything else. Meister Eckhart said, “If the only prayer you ever say in your whole life is ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.”

INGREDIENTWATCH

Xylitol is a synthetic sugar alternative that is about as sweet as sucrose, but with 33 percent fewer calories. In nature, xylitol is found in low concentrations in the fibers of many fruits and vegetables, including berries, oats, mushrooms, corn husks, sugar cane and birch. Industrial production of xylitol starts from a hemicellulose known as xylan being extracted from either hard words or corn cobs. It is then hydrolyzed into xylose and then hydrogenated into xylitol. Clearly, it is not a simple process to make this artificial sweetener, but is it safe?

Xylitol is marketed as being safe for diabetics and hypoglycemics because of its low glycemic index. While glucose from table sugar has a glycemic index of 100 or more, xylitol’s GI is at seven.

One of the most interesting thing about xylitol is that it is much safer than sucrose-based artificial sweeteners. It has few side effects, low caloric value, and no known carcinogenicity or toxicity. It is unique in that unlike most sweeteners, xylitol is actually beneficial for dental health. It has been shown to reduce dental carries with regular use. Furthermore, multiple studies utilized electron microscopy to discover that xylitol is effective in inducing remineralization of deeper layers of enamel.

Normally, when we consume sugar, cavity causing bacteria in the mouth feeds on the six-carbon sugars or disaccharides. Xylitol on the other hand, is non-fermentable, and so these same bacteria cannot feed on it as an energy source. By substituting xylitol for other sweeteners, these harmful bacteria’s growth is restricted through starvation. The perception of sweetness one experiences causes the body to secrete saliva, which acts as a buffer system against the acidic environment created by the microorganisms in the dental plaque. In fact, the PH in the mouth is balanced within a few minutes of consuming this sweetener.

Written By Lissie Lyles

Studies have also shown that xylitol chewing gum can be helpful for clearing middle ear infections. Just the act of chewing and swallowing helps to assist in the dispersal of earwax. Xylitol prevents the growth of bacteria in the eustachian tubes, which connect the nose and ear. Normally, when bacteria enter the body they adhere to tissue using a variety of sugar complexes. Because xylitol has the ability to form different sugar-like structures, it interferes with this bacteria’s ability to adhere to tissue as it normally would. In one study, nasally administered xylitol reduced ear complaints in children with previous chronic complaints by more than 92 percent over the course of a month.

One side effect of xylitol that is has been known to have a laxative effect, especially when taken in large quantities, or with coffee. While xylitol has no known toxicity in humans, it is extremely toxic for dogs. Any foods that contain this ingredient should be kept out of reach of any canine companions, as it has been shown to be life threatening. If you suspect your dog has consumed xylitol, get them to a veterinarian immediately!

It is important to keep in mind that xylitol is still a heavily processed ingredient. Because it is often derived from corn, there is a chance that it could be derived from GMO corn. Though some xylitol is derived from birch, this contributes to deforestation, and so it is not the most sustainable ingredient option in the market.

Kelley Maresca is an herbalist, alternative healer and birth doula. The most recent addition to her roster: founder of Sunshine Organic Herbals in Truckee. The shop specializes in custom and unique products for men, women and children.

The idea of opening a store began when Kelley, DONA trained Doula and student of Master Herbalism, was making all natural healing products for herself, family & friends, as well as her doula clients. She received so much positive feedback she had to share these items with everyone. “Whether we realize it or not, herbal medicine can be incorporated into our daily lives with what we eat, drink and use on our skin,” Kelley said.

Her true passion is herbal remedies and helping the public see how the go-to modern day medicine is not always the best answer. She also has a passion for empowering her female clients, providing them with herbs that assist in becoming pregnant and remaining healthy during and after pregnancy. Yet, her knowledge base extends far beyond her doula work, which directly fed into the idea of creating the Sunshine Organic Herbals (SOH) name. She hopes that by creating SOH she can help men and women alike, keeping them healthy with tools that only Mother Earth can create.

One of Kelly’s customers writes, “I have been a customer of Sunshine Organic Herbals for over 2 years. Not once have I been disappointed. High quality products that are affordable. Kelley is very easy to work with and extremely knowledgeable. I literally turn to her for all of my health related needs for myself and my family and she provides me with quick and accurate information and suggestions. Great company!!!!”

Kelley takes pride in the knowledge she gathered over the years from taking courses, attending lectures and reading books, but “[my] favorite learning experience is from working directly with each client to find the herbal product that will heal that individual,” she said. It is evident that the study of herbalism is the most defining aspect of her life, and is incorporated directly into how she cares for her own family.

Lapis Lazuli is a striking royal blue stone. It is comprised of several minerals, including Lazurite, Sodalite, Calcite and Pyrite. It is the pyrite that provides the golden flecks that can often be seen in those stones. Lower grade lapis is a lighter shade of blue, contains more white flecks than gold, and is sometimes called “denim Lapis.” Most Lapis Lazuli on the market today is mined in the US, Afghanistan, Italy and Chile.

Lapis Lazuli is a stone that has been highly regarded and valued since ancient times. In Sumerian mythology, the stone was associated with the goddess Inanna who was said to have journeyed to the underworld carrying rods of Lapis Lazuli. Two chapters in the Egyptian Book of the Dead--the 26th chapter, which references the heart as the seat of life, and the 140th chapter on the symbolic eye--are engraved in Lapis and ornamented with gold. The sarcophagus of King Tutankhamun was inlayed with Lapis, as were many burial ornaments of the kings and queens. In ancient Egypt, it was the material image of Truth (Ma), and chief-justices and high priests would wear the stone suspended from a gold chain.

Lapis Lazuli is associated with the water element and is ruled by the planet Venus. Its energy is receptive. When used in chakra healing therapy, this stone can be used to activate the brow chakra, also known as the third eye, which is the center of perception and command. Our consciousness is said to be centered in this chakra, which directs our sight and awareness. Lapis Lazuli can help us to better distinguish meaningful impressions and insights from the din of mental overstimulation. When the third eye chakra is in balance, we can see and understand the truth more clearly. Our perception is heightened so that our thoughts can remain healthy and vibrant. Placed over this chakra, lapis relieves mental stress, is supportive during meditation, and enhances dreams.

Lapis lazuli is also balancing for the throat chakra. Because this chakra is associated with the voice of the body, it acts as a pressure valve that allows energy from other chakras to be expressed as well. If this chakra is blocked or out of balance, the health of our other chakras will often be affected as well. By restoring balance to this chakra, we are able to bring our personal truth into the world in a way that is compassionate and in alignment with our highest self.

Our new department. Let’s take a look at how crystals can be used in a variety of ways to heal, energize and recharge our lives!

Lapis Lazuli is a wonderful stone to work with when seeking to activate the higher mind, or enhance mental acuity. It stimulates the desire for knowledge, truth and understanding. It is an excellent crystal for students, for it aids the process of learning and enhances memory. This stone can be worn to protect against psychic attack, and is centering in high stress situations. It supports wisdom, good judgment, self-awareness, and objectivity. It is very helpful in situations that call for problem solving and intellectual analysis. At the same time, Lapis encourages creativity and self-expression.

Wearing jewelry that contains Lapis Lazuli or placing these crystals in the home, or office will invite its energy of quiet strength, stillness, reflection and purification. This stone is also associated with love, fidelity, courage, health, success and harmony. To activate your inner truth and third eye wisdom, wear Lapis in the form of a pendant or as earrings. To benefit from its protective energy, wear a bracelet or ring.
