Marcus Daly Surgical Services has performed over 15% more surgical procedures in the past two years. The
Press Ganey scores confirm that patient satisfaction is high and the surgical site infection rate is well below the national average, nearly non-existent at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital.
This is a testament to the Hospital Administration and Board of Directors and their commitment to patient safety, improved patient outcomes and the best patient care. The Marcus Daly surgical suites are outfitted with state of the art visualization equipment consisting of high definition cameras and video technology, premium optics and data management systems designed to be customized for each patient, procedure and surgeon.
“New technology and computers have enhanced visualization. Surgeons can see more detail, allowing them to make smaller incisions, reducing patient recovery time and pain,” said Dr. Luke Channer, Surgery Department Chairman and General Surgeon

at Hamilton General Surgery. “We have an experienced and dedicated team of surgeons and operating crew offering many different types of surgeries like appendectomies, gallbladder removals, hysterectomy, back surgery, total joint replacements, cataract surgery and more.”
"The surgery team works well together," said Dr. James Zubernis, Gynecologist and recent addition to Marcus Daly’s Medical Staff. “In the operating suites we have the most current technology. I can see clear, bright images, and capture video during a surgery. The surgery team can see the images in real-time and has access to the information and device controls to help us do the best job possible for our patients. It is clear that the patient’s safety, comfort, and care quality are of the utmost importance at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital.”
When patients have surgery at Marcus Daly Surgery Center they receive one-on-one personalized care starting with the surgeon and at every touch-point before, during and after surgery. In addition, the hospital reports on quality measures such as prevention of blood clots and surgical site infections. CMS Quality Measure Data confirms that certain surgery patients at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital have received treatment to prevent infections and blood clots 100% of the time.

Ann L. Kimmel, MD
During the summer of 1979 Ann Kimmel began her career in forestry, fighting fires in the Bitterroot Mountains. She fell in love with the mountain range that summer and knew at some point she would return. Following her career in forestry, Ann earned a Registered Nursing degree and specialized in high risk labor and delivery. After 10 years, she attended the University of Arizona College of Medicine and earned her medical degree in 1998.
Ann Kimmel, MD is Board Certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and joined the Marcus Daly Medical Staff in the Hamilton Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic. “Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital is a sparkling jewel, it is clean and friendly, and offers a less intensive, yet cohesive medical community,” said Dr. Kimmel.
Dr. Kimmel brings years of obstetric and office gynecology experience.
“I am super excited about being a part of a small community, riding my horse in the back country and working in a medical clinic that will afford me the time to spend with my patients; to listen to them, understand their vulnerabilities and provide protection for them,” shared Dr. Kimmel. “It is so fulfilling to be a part of my patient’s special moments and provide the continuum of care into the next phase of their lives.”
Paul E. Shingledecker, MD, FACP recently joined the Marcus Daly Hospitalist Team. He is an Internal Medicine Specialist, the State Air/Joint Forces Surgeon for the Colorado National Guard, and an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Medicine at Rocky Vista University College of Medicine. In addition to his professional career, Dr. Shingledecker and wife Jodi Brice are avid fly fishermen. “The Bitterroot Valley is a perfect place to practice medicine, fly fish, and enjoy the true qualities of life,” said Dr. Shingledecker.
Dr. Shingledecker graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Medicine. He completed
an Internal Medicine residency at Keeler AFB Medical Center. He was later stationed at the Air Force Academy Hospital and served during Desert Storm. After leaving active duty, Dr. Shingledecker entered private practice in Greenwood, Colorado. He continued to serve in the Colorado Air National Guard becoming the 140th Medical Group Commander and now the State Air/Joint Forces Surgeon. Dr. Shingledecker shared, “I adopted my core values from the Air Force, “Integrity First, Service before Self and Excellence in All We Do.”
Dr. Shingledecker’s goal is to care for each patient as a whole person. He evaluates
the physical, emotional, spiritual and medical needs of each patient, and designs a multi-disciplinary care plan to address those needs.
“Growing up in a small town in Wisconsin, I find it exciting to have the opportunity to practice medicine at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. It has a strong hospitalist team and a variety of medical specialties on staff for a rural hospital,” said Dr. Shingledecker. “My wife Jodi has found the valley to be beautiful, the people friendly and knows the fishing is terrific. We look forward to becoming active members in the community, and working and playing in the last best place!”

NEWS
We are in need of a new CT Scanner. "CT Scan is a vital piece of diagnostic equipment and essential in hospitals, especially rural hospitals like Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital,” shared Dr. Joshua Pacheco, Emergency Medicine Physician at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. "It is the single most important imaging tool in an emergency department, often used to assist in diagnosing trauma or acute care when a patient is in severe pain and or need of immediate stabilization."
Over the past 7 years the number of CT Scans performed at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital increased by 63%, nearly 4,500 scans during the last fiscal year. This increase is expected to continue. The next closest CT Scan is 47 miles away, therefore the need for this technology is great and your support is appreciated.
