lung CAnCer sCreeningEarly detection and diagnosis of a pulmonary nodule, which may be cancerous, provides the best chance for a cure. Lung cancer screening is a five-minute CT scan (also known as computed tomography) that uses imaging technology to detect pulmonary nodules in the lungs, which may or may not be malignant. Some insurance carriers, including Medicare, are now covering the cost of this screening for eligible beneficiaries. To be eligible for the screening, individuals must be: • Age 55-77• Asymptomatic (no signs of lung cancer such as chest pain or coughing up blood)• Current or former heavy smoker (30 pack-year minimum smoking history)Eligible individuals without insurance coverage may pay for the screening out-of-pocket for $150.

lung speCiAlistsMajor medical studies demonstrate that the greatest benefit from lung cancer screening is gained when the screening is completed at medical facilities with access to multi-disciplinary lung cancer diagnosis and treatment programs. In conjunction with Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine of Central Pennsylvania, PinnacleHealth was the first health system in central Pennsylvania to establish a multi-disciplinary pulmonary nodule clinic in 2011 and lung cancer screening program in 2012. The PinnacleHealth lung cancer screening program has been nationally recognized as a screening center of excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance and the American College of Radiology. In 2015, the PinnacleHealth Lung Cancer Screening program has performed more than 180 LDCT screenings.

lympHedemA tHerApyA specially trained physical therapist will provide a gentle, non-invasive and highly effective treatment called complete decongestive physiotherapy (CDP). This is a combination of massage, compression therapy, remedial exercises, and skin care to promote lymphatic drainage. The first phase takes two to four weeks of intensive decongestive treatments. Depending on your patient’s condition, you may receive two to three treatments each week. Each treatment takes about an hour. The second phase is a maintenance program that you continue at home. It includes phase one components in addition to the use of a compression sleeve or garment.

spine CAre Center The Spine Care Center is the first step in the non-surgical treatment for patients with neck and back pain and other spine conditions in an outpatient setting. The trained staff at the Spine Care Center will provide triage, assessment and an individualized treatment plan for patients. Our goal to assess the patient’s condition and make the appropriate treatment recommendation within a few days.

Whether the patient is seen at our Spine Care Center or referred to one of our specialists within the PinnacleHealth Spine Institute, we will partner with the patient’s healthcare provider to ensure the patient receives expedited and coordinated quality care. vAsCulAr ACCess Center For patients requiring kidney dialysis, access to the vascular system is required. For the blood to travel to the dialysis machine for filtration, a vascular access point is created through minor surgery. PinnacleHealth’s vascular access center provides an expedited process to schedule these procedures.

vAsCulAr sCreenings Vascular screenings help determine if a patient is at risk for peripheral vascular disease or stroke. We offer vascular screenings one Saturday each month at our PinnacleHealth CardioVascular Institute Wormleysburg office. Physician prescription is required. These Doppler ultrasound screenings include carotid artery screening, abdominal aorta screening, ankle/brachial index and blood pressure/cardiac rhythm strip for atrial fibrillation.

This is a cash pay service; each individual screening is $30 or all four for $100.
