Although Greentree Pharmacy is the new kid on the block, its corner location has a long drugstore history.

Paul Hueseman, Pharm.D., opened the independently-owned business in November 2012, offering prescription medications, Medicare Part D prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, diabetes products and supplies, supplements and orthotics.

“Growing up in Kirkwood, I have a love for the community here and I saw a huge deficit in Kirkwood that we did not have a community pharmacy that was independently owned,” said Hueseman, the son of a pharmacist.

Greentree’s store at Kirkwood Road and Monroe Avenue, is the same corner where Sid Smith Pharmacy was from 1943 to 1983. Before that, the 1918 building was occupied by Roy Thompson’s Pharmacy until 1943.

The shop also provides special services such as custom flavoring of medications for children; medical therapy management (MTM); special packaging for medication adherence; a weight-loss program; and flu shots and immunizations. It even offers compounding of medications for dogs and cats. In addition, customers can get their canes and walkers at Greentree, along with other medical supplies.

The part of his job that Hueseman most enjoys is “talking to my patients about their medications and their condition to empower them with more information in order to be healthier,” he said. Customers have told him that they appreciate this time he takes to talk to them.

Cindy Francis has joined the Frontenac Square office of HearUSA as a Hearing Instrument Specialist.

“Working in the hearing health care field is very rewarding, not only for the ability to help improve quality of life with better hearing, but also for developing friendships with those I help,” said Cindy, who joined HearUSA in January.

Cindy follows in the footsteps of her mother, who has been a hearing aid dispenser for over 20 years. She apprenticed in her mother’s practice for two years before receiving her professional license in 2006. Before joining HearUSA, Cindy worked for six years at Viers Hearing Center in Kirkwood. After serving patients in South County for more than 25 years, optometrists Dr. Karen Rosen and Dr. Steven Rosen opened their own practice in 2011 at Ronnie’s Plaza where they provide primary eye care and optical solutions to their patients.

The Rosens are trained in treating common eye diseases such as pink eye, glaucoma, allergies and dry eye syndrome.

“With new treatments, innovations in contact lenses, and state-of-the-art equipment, we can now help our patients in ways we couldn’t before,” said Dr. Steve.

They are proud of their selection of eyewear, from the smart-looking, value-priced collections to the trendy and designer lines.

“Today’s consumers want their eyewear to meet all their lifestyle needs, and we offer many types of frames, lens styles and materials to individualize each pair of glasses,” Dr. Karen said. “Over the years, technology has become more advanced, with computerized equipment, digital and high-definition lenses. We want our patients to have eyewear that is high quality, gives them the best vision correction, and lets them express themselves.”

Both Rosens are members of the American Optometric Association and other professional organizations.

Rosen Optometry is open six days a week and has evening hours. The practice accepts most insurance plans, and new patients are welcome!
