leaders for the global common good
University of Washington seattlescHooL of Law
The Health Law LL.M. program at the University of Washington School of Law combines
the advantages of graduate study at a highly ranked law school with a world-class
research university located in Seattle — an international hub for health care, global health,
biomedical science, genomics and biotechnology. Students in our program benefit from
our location, our collaborations, and the strong multidisciplinary scholarly and research
environment within the law school and the university.
Our Health LL.M. program provides a rich curriculum taught by leaders in law, medicine,
bioethics and technology, while Seattle’s robust health law community and its scientific,
medical and global health organizations present extraordinary externship and career
opportunities. This rigorous yet supportive educational experience prepares students
to practice in a wide range of positions in the dynamic international and domestic
health law arenas. In addition, through UW Law’s emphasis upon leadership for the
global common good, it inspires graduates to use the privilege of their education to
solve our world’s most complex problems at the intersection of health and justice.

UW School of Law’s Health Law LL.M. program draws diverse students from all over the nation

Some of our students have significant practice experience and are seeking to change practice
sectors. Others are recent J.D. graduates seeking the specialty credentials that will launch
their career. Many of our international students are sponsored by their governments or
companies to bring knowledge and health law capacity to their own country.

“The UW Health Law LL.M. program provided me with the opportunity to pursue
multidisciplinary and innovative areas of health law such as medical tourism
and biobanking. The best part of the program was getting the opportunity to
brainstorm and collaborate with the faculty. The chance to have one-on-one
conversations took my health law knowledge to new heights.”

“Attending the Health Law LL.M. program at UW allowed me to transition my Texas litigation
practice to a dedicated health law practice in Seattle, Washington. The program offered courses
covering a variety of subjects, including a class on the recently passed health reform law. It also
put me in a position to make contacts in the community and gave me an advantage over my
peers, leading to an exciting opportunity to practice health law.”
