Welcome dinner and introduction to visiting program. Introducing the visiting program with representatives from Danish regional and governmental health. Topics will be:

• National and international demographic changes – new possibilities in medicine and how to develop and benefit from telemedicine in order to cope with major chronic diseases such as diabetes

• Denmark’s leading position as a partner for R&D - Possibilities for international partners to join in - How to succeed with R&D in Denmark

• Telemed.NOW: A national initiative at the forefront of telemedicine technology and services development

Monday 17 March – Copenhagen area 9:00-11:30 The Bispebjerg “Sund by” Project at Bispebjerg Hospital:

A collaborative approach to developing new devices and services to cope with rising challenges and demands This case introduces new tools to solve demographic challenges in a local community through co-development with public and private partners. The project aims to solve the challenges of dealing with citizens with several chronic illnesses through test and development of new technological solutions. Dr.med. 12:30-13:15 A new healthcare scheme – the virtual hospital, Epital in Lyngby Dr.med. Klaus Phanareth “Moving healthcare to your fingertips” – the new reality with an ageing population and lower birth rates has given birth to a new healthcare scheme. This project is a new approach to healthcare where the patient has only one entrance to the healthcare system. A central part of this is a telemedicine platform making the patient main responsible for own treatment.

13:15-14:00 Moving the hospital entrance to the ambulance Telemedicine ensures that treatment can begin in the ambulance. Through video conference equipment the paramedics can communicate with a specialist doctor making sure the patient receives the right treatment at the right time.

The Science Park in Odense is a unique set-up of organizations within healthcare technology and innovation. Denmark is a perfect test bed for telemedicine solutions and large scale standardized testing has been made possible. International companies can get access to the benefits of the Danish healthcare system e.g. access to data.

9:30-11:00 Telemedicine – a key to health services of the future Denmark has a national action plan for telemedicine as this is an area of great focus in coping with the future challenges. Increased patient satisfaction and economic benefits are some of the effects. In Denmark pilot projects are moving into the next phase of large-scale projects. Treating & monitoring wounds from a distance A joint research project is combining competencies from science, hospital and industry in easing the burden of chronic wounds.

11:00-12:30 Patient@home incl. a tour around the innovatorium/care lab A broad palette of healthcare actors join forces in this project: public and private actors are teaming up with research and users when developing new technologies and services for rehabilitation and remote monitoring in the Danish healthcare sector. Development of new products takes place in accordance with user-needs and often in cooperation with the end-users.

• Establishing a Centre for Innovative Medical Technology (CIMT). A strong joint research unit focusing on the use and deployment of medical technology.
