FALL 2016

Dear Friends,

As mentioned in RCH’s Spring HealthNotes newsletter, we opened the Rochelle Community Hospital Health & Wellness Center on April 11. After four months of operating out of the new facility, we are pleased with the activity in this location, as patients seek services at the Family Healthcare Clinic, Multi-Specialty Clinic and the HealthWorks Fitness Center.

We were fortunate that – as the Family Healthcare Clinic moved into the Health & Wellness Center – Dr. Christine Gorman and Dr. Surjit Thiara joined RCH as employed physicians. After having worked with each of these physicians over the years, we are excited to know these relationships will

continue, and we will maintain the opportunity to serve their patients well into the future.

Constructing the Health & Wellness Center was predicated on the opportunity to grow our patient base and expand our service offering. Thankfully, we are trending in both those directions. With the additions of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon Dr. Andrew Blint from Rockford and Dr. Sabet Siddiqui, an Oncologist from DeKalb, to our Multi-Specialty Clinic, we were able to increase our specialty services earlier this year.

The expansion of the HealthWorks Fitness Center has also enabled us to accommodate more Cardiac Rehabilitation patients as well as community members looking to increase their activity level. The increase in space, equipment and programs has really made the Fitness Center a valuable asset.

As we look to the future, we will continue to investigate ways to meet all of your healthcare needs and appreciate the opportunities you have given us. We want to hear from you about how we are doing, what you would like to see us offer and ways we may serve you better. Please feel free to contact me directly or stop by the hospital to see the changes we are making. Rochelle Community Hospital is your hospital, and we are here to serve you – our patients, families and visitors.

Best in health,

Chief Executive Offi cer, Rochelle Community Hospital

STAY FIT THIS FALL!One of the best things about summer is the regular occurrence of shedding a few pounds. The

warm weather prompts us to spend more time outdoors, which naturally increases our physical activity. However, it’s quite the opposite in the fall. Summer is coming to an end, and the

cool weather tends to slow us down. Here are a few tips to keep off that unwelcomed weight:

1) Get your workout done early in the day! Finding time later in the day tends to be a challenging task for most. Our ever-faithful friend procrastination tells us, “I’ll do it later” and later tells us, “I should have just done it earlier.” Many fi nd themselves experiencing this vicious inner battle for a lifetime! Set the alarm a

little earlier than usual and make the effort – you won’t regret it. I’ve never heard anyone walk out of a gym and say, “I just

wasted my time.” Studies continue to show that those who exercise earlier in the day have better energy, awareness and

cognitive function throughout the day! Try it, you may just fi nd you don’t need coffee made with Red Bull to get you going.

2) If you struggle to be self-motivated, fi nd a workout buddy! Working out with someone else establishes accountability!

Committing to someone else can sometimes be easier than committing to ourselves. The last thing you want is to carry the

reputation of being an “unreliable friend.” Don’t have any friends? You can make countless friends at the gym. We’re all there with a common

goal so encouragement and conversation with one another comes naturally.

3) Always keep things in perspective! Step back and look at the big picture and the long-term effects. Although exercise comes at a time commitment cost now, it is far more affordable than medical costs later. Regular exercise has a long list of benefi ts that include helping to: prevent unwanted weight gain, keep your metabolism high, preserve muscle mass, control blood sugar, sleep better at night, decrease

likelihood of depression and potentially save countless hours of doctor visits and medical bills in the future.

Try some of these tips for a healthier and more enjoyable fall season.
