The end of the American dream? by Steve SchifferesBBC News Website, September 4, 2006
MAJOR POINTS
(1) The dysfunctional medical system is an explicit consequence of our country’s cultural and political ethos.
(2) Over the past 30 years the corporate capture of government has snuffed out communitarian and
progressive ideals and created a newly oppressed and UNEQUAL SOCIETY .
(3) The Bush years and The Great Depression of 2008 have destroyed the middle class and are impairing the
processes of representative democracy.
(4) Advocating for SINGLE PAYER HEALTH REFORM can only succeed in the context of this bigger picture and is a test
case for reviving social justice, promoting equity, and revitalizing our democratic system.
